  1. After viewing "Forbidden Planet" I realized many things about the concept of science fiction back in the 1950's. I noticed how many connections the film had to other pieces such as, "Star Wars". "Forbidden Planet" was a great film that introduced me to the word extrapolation. Reviewing the quotation, "Every subsequent sci-fi movie and TV show is indebted to 'Forbidden Plant'" (Charles Matthews, Oscar A-Z), I am contemplating whether "Forbidden Planet" really shaped the filming process of later sci-fi movies. I know that "Forbidden Planet" was one of the first real science fiction movies, and I do believe that many people began to make sci-fi movies because of "Forbidden Planet", but I don't think every subsequent movie/film is to be giving thanks to "Forbidden Planet". Just like every other genre started somewhere, fantasy movies don't all turn back on one specific movie. Also, "Forbidden Planet" was filmed in the 1950's and today there is much better technology for the film making process. Another thing I am contemplating is the reason for Robby the Robot, which is talked about in "15 Out-of-This-World Facts About 'Forbidden Plant'". Robby the Robot is said to have received a lot of credit when the film came out, but why is that credit there? What made Robby the Robot such an influential character in the movie compared to others? Overall, "Forbidden Planet" was a really great movie that opened my eyes up to many different sides of science fiction.

  2. "Forbidden Planet" made me think about the roots of science fiction. How it all started and what people initially thought of it at first. In the article, it states how the soundtrack was the inspiration for movies such as "Star Trek" but it was also controversial. I'm not exactly sure that it would be considered controversial now if a director tried something new. I also think "Forbidden Planet" did have a lot of influence on science fiction. I don't think every movie uses elements of "Forbidden Planet" in them but they definitely have their own modern twist on them. It was a really great starting point for science fiction but I believe that the whole genre is not indebted to this one movie. However, I do believe it was a great movie and one worth watching to understand how easily this shaped science fiction.
