  1. Xenophobia is a fear of the unknown and the different, This card activity didn't impact my view on Xenophobia at all "Agree with me"

  2. Xenophobia is the fear of peoples or ideas that differ from you. My card was dance at everything I say, and it was kind of awkward. Emotions I had were curiosity of my card, and confusion on how to react to other people's cards. I think xenophobia in Science Fiction is curiosity, but also repulsion.

  4. Xenophobia is essentially the fear of something one does not understand, like people from another country for example. When I think of Xenophobia in science, I think of the film E.T. The people in E.T. don't understand anything about E.T. and that is why they try to dissect him, because they are afraid.

  6. Xenophobia is the fear of a foreigner and or stranger. This is something that many people have without even knowing it. If someone random were to walk up to u in downtown Denver you wouldn't treat them as a life long friend that you just met after not seeing them for years. This in and of itself is a prime example of xenophobia.

  7. Xenophobia explores the fear of people who are different than you. With the card game I got to see what people who have uncommon cultures or different backgrounds may be treated.

  8. My own definition of Xenophobia is: The Fear of the Unknown. This is a very broad definition and that could include anything from Things, People, and Situations. I personally believe that Xenophobia is something that you have to generalize since it's so based on Emotion & Personal Beliefs. During the Card Activity I was given the card "Take everything I say as a Personal Insult". The activity really made me think about self-image. I think that this ties well into Xenophobia since it's a Fear of the Unknown, and the card challenged me to gauge people's reactions to the card. I think one of the most obvious emotions associated with Xenophobia is fear. Another Emotion could be discomfort, or uncertainty.

  9. I think xenophobia is prejudice against looks or religion, this card activity made me think about stereotypes and prejudice. This can result in uncomfortability, anger, and sadness due to the vulnerability minorities have. When one "starts dancing everytime I talk," not only do I feel uncomfortable, but I feel offended and mocked.

  10. Xenophobia is the fear of the unknown and this card activity was a good representation of that. Not knowing what card I had made me afraid whether it was a good thing or a bad thing. It turned out I had the card that made people argue with me which I started to understand based off the conversations I had. The impact the cards had on people's conversations was really interesting to watch.

  11. My definition of xenophobia would be not knowing the unknown. During the card activity I had no idea what it said and that made me a little hesitant to walk up to others. I enjoyed the game because I knew what my peer's card said, but when it came to mine I just wanted to know. Once I looked it said, "Don't look at my face!" and that made me realize why no one was keeping eye contact with me. When I think about xenophobia I think about anxiety and nervousness that would be associated with it. Anxiety and nervousness usually comes with the fact that one does not know their own future or what is going to happen to them. I believe that this concept, xenophobia, is very straight up and accurate even with everyday people today.

  12. Xenophobia is a fear of strangers or unknown things. The card activity didn't really change my point of view on xenophobia.

  13. my definition of xenophobia is that it is the ideas about other people and their different cultures. the card made it feel like that person was supposed to be their cards. "laugh at what I say" is what my card said so when ever I was talking to someone they would start to laugh, and this could make people feel like they are a joke.

  14. Xenophobia is the fear of the unfamiliar. In science fiction it is the inability to deal with the unknown and the things you are not used to. Emotions that may align with xenophobia are fear, anxiety, uneasiness, percausious, paranoia. The quote on my card shows how the person i am talking to might agree and disagree with me in the same sentence. I may see this as werid because I did not know what was on my card and why people were doing that. But they will see it as normal because that is what the card is telling them to do leaving me confused because it is abnormal and them calm as it is normal.

  15. I think xenophobia is a general fear of a new experience or of something new happening. I think this means you are shy or rude to someone you don't know or someone that is different from you. I also think this means your comfort zone is very small and you aren't willing to try anything new. I think most science fiction characters do not have Xenophobia, most characters are looking for something new, weather its a alien or new technology a lot of science fiction characters want to find something new. My card was ¨Agree with everything I say¨ I think this would be good for someone who has Xenophobia because they are agreeing with you which makes them somewhat similar.

  16. My definition of xenophobia is discriminating against someone for their differences. We are surrounded by our society and the things we consider normal. The second something new comes into our lives, could be an alien or a new idea, we freak out and are quick to judge. It was easy to see how this activity can show how quick we are to judge when put in an uncomfortable situation. My card was "accept my ideas" and I could see how others were agreeing with me even though they may not want to. I could see how we could discriminate against these other people with differing views very easily. This shows xenophobia because when something new or scary interferes with our lives, we are quick to judge and think our ways are the only right way to do things.

  17. My definition of xenophobia is something along the lines of 'The fear of unknown or different people, places, or things'. The card activity didn't change my opinion on it much. I think that xenophobia can sometimes be reasonable in regards to anxiety, though most of the time it's not justifiable. It is usually negative

  18. My definition of xenophobia is the fear of the unknown and things that we find different or strange. When it came to my card and my definition, I had the “ignore me” card and it made me realize how peoples actions are affected due to xenophobia. This fear of the unknown and strange things affects how we treat others, and with that interaction, both people are affected. With xenophobia, many tend to look at strange or different things as “lesser” than themselves, when really the reaction should be to have an open mindset and be willing to change and have different ideas. With xenophobia and its relation to science fiction, it connects to the idea of aliens and alien planets and how humans have a hostile idea of strange things or don't value the new life forms or planets.

  19. The card activity presented a variety of different types of people. My card said “nod at me!” Nodding at someone is a way of showing that you are hearing and understanding what they are saying. It can also be a way of pretending to listen to someone, so I didn’t actually know if they were listening to what I was saying. Some people became outcasts because of what their card said. This relates to xenophobia because other people stayed away from those people because they were different.

  20. The fear of the unknown or what you are misinformed about. This card made me think about how others can get an idea on who you are and how to act towards you based on something little like a card label (can be compared to what shirt you are wearing). The emotion I most connect xenophobia with is fear. With card "Ask my opinion!" everyone I talked to our conversation just consist of them asking me questions. This could be based on the fear of what would happen if they didn't ask my opinion.

  21. Xenophobia is the fear of that which you do not know or understand. My card was for people to be offended by everything i said. I saw how one thing people focus on can ruin hoe people talk.

  22. I believe that Xenophobia is the fear or hatred of that which is perceived to be foreign or strange. Xenophobia can also be exhibited in the form of an "uncritical exaltation of another culture" in which a culture is ascribed "an unreal, stereotyped and exotic quality" that is different from ours
