  1. In Rocket Man, one of the song's lyric's says: "Mars ain't the kind of place to raise your kids...". Then he says that he doesn't understand science, so he has a fear of science. Xenophobia of science, mars (in the unknown), being alone with no way to get home to earth.

  2. Yes, the song lyrics relate to our recent studies in science fiction. Each song revolves around space, aliens, the future, or science fiction itself. One song is about zombies, which relates to our topic of xenophobia.

  3. David Bowie, as Ziggy Stardust sings Starman. He sings, "there's a starman waiting in the sky, he'd like to come and meet us but he thinks he'd blow our minds"

The starman, if he came to meet us, should most likely be afraid of direction and all sorts of malicious reactions to an extraterrestrial visitor.

  4. The songs and song lyrics connect with xenophobia because they talk about in one of the song lyrics it says "Mars ain't a place to raise your kids, in fact its cold as hell". It is saying that you can't raise your kids here because they would pretty much die from how cold it is there. I am not sure what else.

  5. In the song "they're not here, they're not coming", it depicts the concept of xenophobia perhaps in regards to an alien species' views of us, saying that they won't be coming to earth just to "Go screaming through the universe
Just to get McNuggets". basically showing alien's xenophobia of seeing our species of having nothing of worth

  6. One song that had pieces of xenophobia in it is Spaceman. Harry Nilsson sings "But now that I am a spaceman nobody loves me anymore." Although it isn't literal, this statement shows that he isnt liked for being different in some ways. In fact, a lot of these songs use metaphors that involve themselves as some type of foreign inhabitant to show their stuggles and differences like Rocket Man.

  7. One of the songs mentions "nailing the back door shot" as well "this is war" showing how when meeting new things like kids with "Trashcans and buckets on their head" people can be scared of what is to come.

  8. In the song "Aliens exist" the lyrics are talking about an alien abduction and how the person knows aliens exist but the government won't tell anyone. This song connects to xenophobia because it is explaining how aliens are sneaking through houses and people are afraid and telling children not to go looking for them but people don't know what they are.

  9. The lyrics of the songs talk about being afraid and having a negative idea of space compared to earth. Afraid of the nature of space in songs like Rocket Man show examples of xenophobia.

  10. These songs have to do with science fiction and xenophobia because they are talking about space, the future, and zombies. In "Rocket Man" by Elton John it says Mars ain’t the kind of place to raise your kids. This is saying that Mars isn't a good place because it is unknown and different from Earth which scares people.

  11. All of these song lyrics deal with space exploration and the idea of xenophobia in some sense. More specifically, the song "They're not here, They're not coming" by Don Henley contains the line: They're not here, they're not coming, Not in a million years. I think this line reflects the idea of xenophobia because it is ignorant to think that in the vastness of our universe, no other life forms exist. So, when Don Henley says they will never come, I think it is more out of fear of the unknown, rather than actually believing no alien beings will come to Earth. This is just one example of how one of the songs deals with xenophobia, but many of the songs deal with fear of the unknown in a broader sense.

  12. The lyrics all have the theme of a thing coming down from the sky and bright lights. People fear these things because they're the unknown. These composers use the fact that others fear things from places that are unknown to them.

  13. All of these songs relate to the theme of xenophobia because each talks about other planets and also aliens. They each address the different ways that we would react to these other worldly things. Nilson states in his song that no one would love him anymore because he's an alien which would cause others to fear him or outcast him because he is different.

  16. I believe a lot of the songs do connect to the concept of xenophobia, for example in rocket man by Elton John he talk about how his wife packs his bags early in the morning and sends him out. That is an example of xenophobia because she was shunning him away in a way.
