  2. I think xenophobia is an irrational distrust of foreign, strange, unknown, or of different origin. A reaction could be fear and hate. My card said, every time I spoke, people had to start dancing. I noticed that some people would walk past me or the would awkwardly shuffle.

  3. Xenophobia is the fear of something or someone different from ourselves. My card said, Repeat what I say; start with ¨I hear what you're saying...¨. This fits with xenophobia because in a conversation, if someone doesn't understand what another person is saying, they'll get confused and just try to play along.

  4. My card was "Don't Look at my Face!" When I was first looking around and people just walked past me without looking at me at all I thought they just did not want to do the activity. When I talked with Mr. Trotter he had the same card as me so I thought it was very interesting because we both were looking in complete opposite directions. Xenophobia to me is being afraid of anything that you can not relate to or you do not identify as.

  5. I think it was a unique way of socializing to each other, and maybe showed us that xenophobia will always be apart of human society.

  6. Take Everything I say as a personal insult was what was write on my card. It was an isolating feeling and a good example of what real life xenophobia can be like.
Xenophobia is the fear of what is different from your version of normal.

  7. Xenophobia to me is the idea of being scared or having fear for something that is different than you. The card activity showed me how just being uncomfortable around something different than yourself can show Xenophobia. My card was, "Laugh at everything I say". This made me feel uncomfortable to even talk to other people.

  8. Laugh at what I say! This card activity made me realize that it is hard to even converse with many different prejudice and feelings towards other people. My definition of xenophobia would be thoughts or feelings held against other people in a negative manner.

  9. My definition of xenophobia was the fear or opposition of something unknown or different. The card activity did not change it, but it did show how subtle actions can leave very large imprints

  10. My definition of xenophobia is acting a specific way towards something because of their difference from yourself. My card was when I spoke people were to dance, and I think that confusion was the biggest thing impacting my experience, because when I would speak people would just randomly start to break out into dance and seemed sort of bizarre at first before I caught on.

  11. I believe that xenophobia is an extreme of today's society. Not a normal everyday speaking point unless you are specifically within the field of working there. Xenophobia in my head is an extreme point of view for racism, not only just teasing another person of a different thing, you are literally killing for it and not thinking even once about your actions on what to do for the situation you may be in. My card was "Agree with me!" and in some sense this kind of takes a weird turn from my definition but reinforces it a small bit more. Basically people read the card first before they had a conversation with and didn't even have to think once enable to know how to respond to me.

  12. To me Xenophobia means to be afraid of things, people, and ideas that are different, often times attacking these foreign concepts. My card was for people to agree with me and I felt privileged that I was able to get a card that benefited me, However my card still had some downsides with no one every really being able to disagree with or challenge my ideas. I am aware that there were people out there who had to be ignored and I know that can hurt a lot from personal experience.

  13. I think xenophobia is a fear of the unfamiliar, different and strange, from things to concepts to people. Xenophobia greatly results in a lack of genuinity. My card said "Take everything I say as a personal insult!" When people come to other people, concepts, or things, with preconceived and stubborn ideas, they are less able to communicate and learn truthfully, like how learning science with incorrect preconceived ideas can prevent your learning of correct ones.

  14. My definition of xenophobia is the fear of things that are different. The card made me think about my definition because mine said ignore me. From my point of view it seemed like I was different since no one would talk to me or look at me with the card on my forehead. If that were to happen all the time the person being ignored probably wouldnt feel to good about themselves maybe even think something is wrong with themselves.

  15. The defination of xenophobia is the utmost fear of someone different than you, a feeling of insignificance towards one race gender, etc... who doesn't agree with you you are afraid of. "Laugh at what I say" is the card I had today for our activity and it does not feel great when someone laughs at whatever you say, this relates to xenophobia because although you're not afraid you may see another person race or species as insignificant compared to you. if you put yourself in that person's shoes, it is not fun to be treated in that way.

  16. The card activity made me understand that people feel quite uncomfortable around people that are very unlike them in how they act. We also feel like there is a certain way to act, so when someone or something is outside of that norm, we want to cut it out of our situation to return to our comfortable bubbles. My card said "Interrupt me" and I could tell that the people I talked to would forcefully try and block me out of the conversation as if they were xenophobic to me.

  17. The card I got was Agree with what i say and then disagree with what I say. It was weird having a conversation when they agree and then the don't agree. But I think this conects with xenophobia because we people like it when someone agrees with them and then they don't. Its like how idea are made in the world.

  18. Xenophobia is a fear of difference, of variety, of the unknown. I certainly felt confused about how people were conversing with me according to my card. "Act like you understand all my feelings 'Oh, you must be feeling ___, etc'" It was very interesting to see how people treat others differently based on only what they know about that person. People fear what they don't understand - and it's extremely unfortunate

  19. Xenophobia to me is the rejection of anything foreign, different, strange, or confusing. It is when people can't accept that there are things that are different and they don't want those different things to be a part of their seemingly perfect society. My card said "Take everything I say as a personal insult" which even though I didn't really participate I can understand what it would feel like for someone to respond like that to anything I said, and it wouldn't be good because it would seem that I would never be able to do anything right or say anything right.

  20. I define xenophobia as the fear of foreign people and ideas. My card said to interrupt me when I spoke and I thought it was funny but was a bit confused at first. Xenophobia in science fiction is an impactful topic that has a lot to explore and can spark an interesting train of thought.

  21. My definition of xenophobia is closely related to seperate. distributing people into groups based on how they look and act in your mind. I say this because such like the in class example, we act differently to different people without releasing. Sometimes it's laughing at someone's joke even if it is bad, or not laughing at a joke even if it's funny but you have a filter that tells you what to do with different people. I can connect the word desire with xenophobia because when we have a desire to have a relationship with someone, we can act different because we think they would like us better. My card was dance to everything I say, which was funny to see people do that.

  22. I believe xenophobia is the need we feel to avoid new or drastically different concepts derived from the comfort we feel with familiar ones. Partially out of concern for safety and the unpredictability that comes with change, we fear new concepts, people, or ideas. The activity carried out with the cards showed how both subconscious and conscious bias can be carried through into normal, everyday human interaction. I feel that this xenophobia is born primarily out of the fear we feel, whether for our safety or our reputation. This unfair bias can spread into our daily lives, leading us to judge people based on appearances alone.

  23. Xenophobia for me is having a fear of someone or something. My card said "Ignore Me!" which is something that a few people experience which is a good example of someone feeling ignored or wanting to be ignored. A lot of people go through it and it's not really fun to be ignored.
