  1. Xenophobia is dislike of or prejudice against people from other countries. This card activity shows how you can dislike someone depending on what their card says. My card said "Tap your foot while I'm speaking." so when people did that I was confused. The emotions that can relate to xenophobia could be confusion or judgement ect..

  2. My definition of Xenophobia is the fear or dislike of foreign things. The card activity did not make me change or really think about my definition. My card was “argue with me” and everyone argues with me, but that didn’t make me fear change or fear things because things were not changing. Though I could see how arguing did do that. People could fear the change of what happens after an argument or the final outcome after all of it goes down. Arguing in science fiction could be people arguing whether or not there are aliens or foreign people out in space, or just beliefs in general.

  3. My definition of xenophobia is people being scared or making judgments about people. I feel like fear is a huge emotion that impacts xenophobia. We can be fearful of something just because they are different than us. We also make judgements based on people's appearance and personality. My card said, "Take everything I say as a personal insult!" I feel like this would cause people to make assumptions about a person like this. These could be things like that they are a rude person or that they are disrespectful.

  4. My definition of xenophobia is the fear of foreigners and strangers. For the card activity my card said Don't look at my Face! Personally, it kinda made me feel awkward and wondered why they weren't looking at me. Also, I keep questioning myself what I was doing wrong or if I had something on my face. The card activity made me think of xenophobia because it made you think of why people were treating you a certain way.

  5. Xenophobia is rejection of foreign people and thoughts. The card activity showed me how people treat you when you have a label. My card was "Argue with Me!" and when talking to everyone I was very confused and got mad when people were arguing with me. This feeling relates to xenophobia because its judging people based on a label.

  6. Xenophobia is the fear of the unknown. Things that are unfamiliar or that we don't understand are inherently scary. With the cards, it could be hard to find a common ground because each person had to behave differently. If we can't communicate it causes problems. Humans themselves have trouble connecting, let alone humans and a completely different species.

  7. My definition of Xenophobia is being scared of foreignors and their culture, and the card activity made me think about my definition by showing how even small judgements can make people uncomfortable. My quote on my card was "don't look at my face", and it made me feel kind of awkward, as I usually try to maintain eye contact with people while I talk to them. It made me feel embarrassed in a sense because if it actually happened I'd wonder if maybe I had something on my face like a sauce from lunch or something to that effect, and people were just too awkward to tell me.

  8. My definition of Xenophobia is the fear of the foreign, unknown or uncommon. My card was "Ignore me". I didn't like how it made me feel because it made me feel like no one cares what I said and it made me feel awkward talking. This card makes me think about Xenophobia because we didn't know what the card said so we got scared and thought what was wrong with us. I feel like Xenophobia makes people feel different and makes you question things around you.

  9. Xenophobia is to have a fear of something different practically. The card activity helped me realize this definition because of the way other people act towards people with a card on their forehead, is how some humans act towards certain races, religions, creeds, etc. Emotions that relate to xenophobia could be dislike, hatred, resistant. For example my card had "accept my ideas" on it. I realized that just because of someones appearance people are more likely to agree with them or not.

  10. To me, my definition of Xenophobia is an irrational fear of all things strange or different from oneself. My card was "laugh at everything I say", which helped me to see that xenophobia can be a lot more subtle and broad than I previously thought. I think fear and distrust are the first emotions I think of when I think of Xenophobia, although other things like not taking something seriously can be a factor too.

  12. Xenophobia is the fear of others for one reason or another. The card activity demonstrated that people will have prejudice against people and they wont have a reason for it. For example the card "ignore me" or "dont look at my face" make people feel left out without a reason.

  13. My definition of Xenophobia is human beings like their societies based on homogeneous ideas, cultures, languages, and religions. During the card activity we did in class, my quote from the note card held above my head was “Ask my opinion!” Everyone asked me how my lunch was first and always started the conversation off before I was able to. This made me think about my definition of Xenophobia because “Homogeneous” means composed parts or elements that are all of the same kind, I can connect that they were asking to see if my responses related to what they would have answered with and rate the conversation off of this. Emotions that I can assign/connect with the term and concept of Xenophobia in Science Fiction are familiar, protection, and comfort.

  14. Xenophobia is dislike against people from different countries the card activity shows how you can dislike someone depending on what their card says the card i was given somehow was the exact same as the person sitting next to me so it was interesting to see how it worked out . The emotions that can relate to xenophobia could be confusing to our own judgement

  15. Xenophobia to me is people being afraid of what they don't understand and choosing to remain with that they already know. Quick to make judgement of people before we even talked to them. Mild forms Xenophobia include cards like "Ignore me!" or "Don't look at me face". These kind of actions will make people feel alone, pushed away, rejected and left out.

  17. My definition of xenophobia is people not being accepting of others because of their fear of something unfamiliar that can possibly harm them. The game didn't name a lot of sense with this certain activity, but I did find it quite funny to interrupt Chris all the time.

  18. Xenophobia is a hatred or distrust to different people. My card was "Interrupt Me!" and I didn't understand why people were doing it. This relates to xenophobia because it shows how people are treated for unknown reasons for them.

  19. Xenophobia in my opinion means like the fear of foreigners or people you don't know. My card was "Nod at me" I never caught on but when I saw the card I was like "oh that makes sense". Like I said I never noticed so it did not affect me during the conversation. To be honest I did not think of xenophobia because sometimes people nod at you just to show understanding and that they are paying attention.

  20. My definition of xenophobia is the fear of the unknown. My card said "Ignore me!", so it seemed as though I was on the receiving end of discrimination. This activity made me understand how broad xenophobia really is and that it can be domestic as well as foreign.

  21. Xenophobia is a dislike of or prejudice against people from other countries. In my opinion this can be because they actually don't like a certain country, like the USA and USSR, or because they do not understand. In the card activity people would not look me in the face and for a few times I didn't understand it

  22. My definition of Xenophobia is the fear or dislike of differences within other people or creatures. The card activity allowed me to see that xenophobia has many forms. My card "take everything I say as an insult" made the conversation confusing, but it didn't seem as though I was disliked because I was different. Fear, anger, and disgust are all emotions associated with this part of science fiction.

  23. Xenophobia is the fear of something different, or alien from yourself. This can translate to sexual preference, ethnicity or creed. While we did the card activity i had the card "Interrupt me!" while i had this card I felt very deflated and unwilling to speak afterwards. Sadness was the main emotion i would connect with xenophobia.

  24. xenophobia is dislike of or prejudice against people or things other than you your group, the card activity didn't really change my opinion.pretty much any conflict has some part to do with xenophobia and there are many examples in history people are born and raised with it

  25. Xenophobia is a fear of someone or something that is not "normal" per say. In the activity that we completed in class gave a new insight to what Xenophobia actually is. People seemed to make a judgment of someone just by reading there card. This happens in society when people see someone and there appearance or actions are the only thing that people have to judge. This means that xenophobia is has an effect on almost everyone in society. You must judge people to determine where you put them in your mind.

  26. My definition of xenophobia is to be scared of something that is not normal, or something or someone who is different. The emotions shown during the card game somewhat show the things some people have to go through due to the label placed upon us by the society we live in. The way people suddenly act differently towards you can destroy someone's mental state and it would be terrible to constantly live with a certain label on you at all times.

  27. My definition of xenophobia is the idea that people are afraid of what they do not understand because it is different from what they are used to. In class I had the card that said do not look at my face. This really made me think about this idea differently because if you were apart of the group that people were afraid of, nobody would ever acknowledge you and treat you as less that human simply because they do not understand or are narrow minded. This would be very hard to deal with and also be very frustrating and I think that if we educated, or had more open minded people then things would be different.

  28. Xenophobia is the fear of the unknown and dissimilar. It can be the fear of a person, group, or idea. The notecard activity illustrated the how a person's predispositions affect xenophobia. It isn't just a blind of fear of the new, it is terror based of what we expect the dissimilar to be.

  29. Xenophobia is a bias, fear, or dislike of others who are different than you based off of your own loyalties or prejudices. When it relates to science fiction, often one trait or type of xenophobia is enlarged, and conflicts arise from it. In many science fiction worlds, the societies appear to be developed and advanced compared to our world, but people (or creatures) clash when they aren’t as advanced and open-minded as their world says they should be.
