Extrapolation And Future Schools 2057?

Now that you have read many of your peers' Future School Extrapolation Projects, what are you thinking?  Holistically, what are your reasonable extrapolations regarding all of the extrapolations you have read?  What potential changes excite you the most?  What potential changes fill you with angst and apprehension?  Other thoughts?

  1. Out of all of the extrapolations I have read, i would say the most reasonable predictions have to do with technology and class content. I believe that technology will continue to improve at an exponential rate, and therefore students in forty years will be able to take advantage of that technology. And as education discourse nowadays has a lot to do with the arts, I feel like it's reasonable to expect that in the future, the arts will be given more time and funding. As studies show that being creative improves almost every aspect of a child's life, future schools should do more to include the arts in education. The potential changes that I'm worried about have to do with the lack of a teacher's presence. Many people seem to believe (reasonably so) that schools would not continue to pay for teachers if they could use cheaper resources such as holograms or teaching videos. That is very worrying to me, as I feel that teachers add something to learning that a hologram can't. They add a support system for the students, and can adapt the material to better suit a class.

  2. Potential changes that excite me include no homework, self driving cars, and all the other cool technology we could have. Extrapolations ; teachers will stay, school will still teach life skills, lunch will be present, students will still drive to school (although different) and yeah, those are some extrapolations

  3. One of the things I saw while walking around is that the technology will be clear or look more futuristic. I think that having clear technology would be harder than easier to find and use. Having a better dress code excites me the most because then I wouldn't have to worry about what I'm wearing all the time. I'm not a huge fan of having robots as teachers or teachers not being there. I think it would be harder to learn with that aspect.

  4. Lots of people are changing the dress code to let people wear what ever they want. I also saw a clear phone and it made me wonder how it would work. I also read about glass schools and I personal think that it is a safety hazard.

  5. Technology will DEFINITELY be more present

  6. I am excited for flying cars and teleportation i cant wait to see how technology will progress

  7. While reading my peer's Future School Exploration Projects I saw many trends in terms of what students think future school will be like. One trend that I saw that was almost throughout all is changing how learning takes place. The students think that in the future we will split off earlier into more specialized fields earlier. A lot of people said high school would become the new college and college would become unnecessary. We can already see this start to happen with high school letting kids branch out more rather than all take the same classes. Another trend I noticed was dress codes being eradicated. This is mainly based off the fact it has been happening for many years now where the dress code is getting less and less strict.

  8. One of the things I had seen while looking at projects, was a clear Iphone. I'm not sure if this would really work. I mean I think that it could work with some type of special material, but I feel like you would have to have all of the tech boards, and the camera, and flashlight, you would have to have that in the phone in order for it to work. I also saw a lot of dress code in people presentations, and I think that dress code in the future being more relaxed is very reasonable, because people now are trying to change it, so I think in the future it will be completely different, from now giving student more freedom.

  9. In a lot of the class, there were no teachers, school days were shorter, a very strict dress code, and the discipline was very enforced. The idea of more discipline excites me the most because bullying and aggression are a huge problem, and without them, students would be able to focus on their actual school work more. A shorter school day worries me, because even though it's what the student may want, students won't be able to learn as much. I feel like on this project, most extrapolations are what the students want, instead of what is best for knowledge.

  10. The most noticeable change that I've seen across all student presentations is the greater impact of technology on student education, from VR to tubes injecting information into the brain. I feel that the latter is less possible but technology will advance in the years to come. This is both exciting but it will definitely have its drawbacks.

  11. Looking through these projects I have noticed that a lot people including myself has used holograms in one way or another. Another thing I noticed looking through was how people got rid of the teacher as a person but the teacher was there either with a hologram or on a screen. The change that excites me the most is the holograms because all I can think of is Star Wars.

  12. Many of the future schools presentations had common topics like upgraded technology and little to no teachers. The changes that fill me with the most angst are having no teachers, just robots teaching for them.

  13. After looking at all the blog posts its safe to say alot of people presume that we will move towards a more conservative way of dressing and like so move back to where schools used to be. A lot less relaxed. What excites more than anything is the smaller class size and more creativity based learning. Maybe even less emphisis on standardized testing.

  14. In Reading peoples projects, i saw everything in the future as far as our assumptions will be very computerized and none personal, and in my opinion thats not real education. True learning comes from experiences and moments and our future children of those futuristic times will be none social and very niave to situations cause thats what public school, teachers, other students and more provide to your childhood. Life facts and skill to read people and be broad, computers dont teach you much to any of that.

  15. Everyone had pretty much the same idea on what a future school would be like. The schools is mostly made of glass and there is a higher use of technology. Human interaction is even limited to the point where teachers are holograms and classes are small. I think we should definitely use technology to our advantage especially in our growing society. However I disagree with the fact our teacher (if we had one) would be a hologram. Sometimes our knowledge comes from experience not a formula or calculation. Therefore some questions that need solving will not be able to be answered accurately because it is not given by a real person. Also social skills are a very big part of our society and when we isolate ourself from other human interaction we will be unable to communicate in the outside world and won't be able to solve problems or advance as a society again.

  16. After reading the future school projects I thought that some extrapolations were not so accurate because one said that a building is going to be made of all glass and that doesn't sound reasonable. Some things that I apprehend is that there is a lot of things that people could do to change to make it more extraplated

  17. In a lot of the blog posts that I saw there were a lot of common themes that were easily identified. The role of technology is always predicted to increase, the ways that they increase are different though. There were more realistic near future predictions like self driving cars. I also saw predictions like wind sucking tunnels that transported you extremely quickly to the main lobby of the school. I saw a lot of information injecting and the role of the teacher slowly fading away. One prediction that I saw that scared me was that colleges would become extremely expensive and exclusive, most colleges even fading away. This was particularly frightening because of the huge gap that it would create in wealth. Because the colleges wouldn’t vanish in an instant the gap would be devastating. I really did learn a lot of cool and interesting predictions.

  18. I read some extrapolations on lunches at schools in the future. I started thinking about instant lunches. Kind of like astronaut meals where you "just add water." This excites me and makes me cringe at the same time because I've always thought that an astronaut meal would be interesting to eat but at the same time, not high quality either. Another fascinating topic was that of robotics. So many people had different ideas and uses of robotics and it was interesting to hear those small differences

  19. I'm really hoping that the technology will advance by a lot. I really hope that we will have desks that can type for you. I really just want everything to advance but I still hope we will have teachers because the human connection is the best thing we can have for communication.

  20. Most of the Future Schools presentations had many of the same topics, futuristic technology that we don't have today. This potential change excites me the most because technology changes the world intensely and is a big part of our lives today. With that said, this is also the topic that I fear the most, considering the fact that the technology we have now is already causing our world problems, and we have yet to invent more that could quite possibly wipe out our entire existence.

  21. After looking through my peers future schools presentations I found that almost all of them changed the way students are taught. In addition most of the schools incorporated a lot of glass and holograms into the classroom. While some were for removing the teacher I think it is best to keep a human teacher so the students aren't watching holograms in every single class.

  22. I'm hoping that in the future, schools will care more about technology. I think advanced technology should be in sports, and academics. This will help students excel in their learning and athletics, and will overall help them.

  23. After looking through our peer's presentations, I have found many of the presentations to take many of the technologies we have access to today and rocket them as logically as possible to forty years in the future. I do not believe, however, that it will all be purely robotic like it was in certain presentations. There will always be a need for human touches in certain areas.

  24. As I was looking through the other projects I noticed that the technology the dress code and the way students are taught were the most common changes in our schools.

  25. For the most part, each of the presentations discussed changes and updates in technology used in schools before branching off into more specific ideas like uniforms or schedules. I found it interesting how some of the presentations went for more mechanical styles, while others retained a more organic vision. Personally, I hope teachers don't get completely replaced by robots; I feel that they would ruin the enjoyable, silly moments in classes. As far as what I’m looking forward to goes, I'd just like to see what kind of invention revolutionizes modern life next.
