After viewing your peers' Robot Advertisements, what did you notice? Observations? Commentary? Patterns? Warnings? Other? Please respond using thoughtful, specific details. This blog response is due during class today.
Though all of the projects were very different, one common theme was that they were all meant to help human beings. Whether it's with school, fashion, or everyday chores, these robots are meant to make life easier for the everyday person. They were not created with negative thoughts in mind, despite what people may believe.
Patterns in the design or purpose of these robots included an attempt to increase convenience for the customer. Personally, my favorite robot was the robot that does your homework for you.
When viewing other peoples projects, I found that lots of them had were very personalized machines, designed to benefit the person that bought it solely, and many of them were based at home. Not surprisingly, they were mostly made to make life easier and give us less to do. One that I viewed that was a bit different than all of the others in concept was a robot made to benefit the military, which was much different in idea and audience.
After observing my peers' Robot Advertisements, I noticed that almost all if not all of them were advanced versions of things we have today. I think everyone created their project revolving around them, doing things that they personally found useful. Many people listed off facts, information, and price while others focused around safety. They all made sense to have and simplified processes, taking out the human factor just like the story we read with the same name.
i noticed that all the robots that were advertised were usuall desccribed as not notacable becasue they helped you with an easy task. they also all seemed to help with non life threatining issues like trash and walking. but in all non of them would have mistakinlgy caused humans and anguish or harm in doing their job.
When I was viewing other ads i noticed most was for house hold things. Robots to help us with are daily life. My question is why do you think we haven't made these robots yet? Do you think us as humans are getting lazy because we want a robot to do are work for us?
I noticed that most of the robots that people made all were there in basic function to make lives easier for humans. Most robots clean and do things like that and just take away some basic chores that humans should do and its kind of sad too see how humans are slowly becoming more and more dependent on technology and soon enough robots will do everything for us.
After reading a few of my classmates ads I notice a trend of simply human life. I also notice the robots took the human factor away. I also learn that some of the ads the safety feature are to automatically turn them off. I had like the idea of the robot that helps out around the house but also has a tazer for defense.
While viewing other peoples robots I actually saw a fair amount of diversity among the different robots. I was expecting to see very similar robots with very similar, generic functions. Although as far as I saw I had one of the only military robots. Besides that they were all pretty diverse.
The ones that I viewed had to deal with helping the military, not with hurting people, but in helping the people actually in war (carrying their supplies). The patterns that I saw was that the robots almost seemed alive in the way that they understand commands, where mine was more of a machine robot. The emergency off was really cool to look at because every robot had a different option, whether it was a voice command or a switch.
After walking around looking at several different robot advertisements, I noticed that almost every robot was one that moved around and did things to make our lives simpler. For example: there was a robot of which carries things for humans using mainly magnets. While it is extremely hard, even for me to come up with a robot that is unlike any current design, I found that quite a few were something similar to a product that is already in existence. However, a couple robots stood out and sounded like it would be a brilliant idea, if it was able to function properly.
One very common factor I noticed in all of the projects was that each robot was made to assist us, do things for us, like robots are supposed to. Not many projects focused on the safety of things, but the price
The patterns that I saw about these robots are they all mostly help make something easier for the customer. They range from making your appearance different to making a milkshake for you.
I noticed that some of the robots had a remote control or some other type of emergency shut down in case the robot malfunctioned. There also seemed to be a couple that would learn over time how to interact with their user. If a program can learn and be influenced in the way it acts, could it become intelligent?
The robots that people created seemed to be specialized in an area that they think needs to change or be more advanced. There was one robot idea that the robot is a home trainer that does this work with you to show you how to do the workout at home. This robot takes the yelling and crowd of a class out of the workout sessions and also gets rid of monthly gym costs. I believe that the creator of this robot wanted those ideals in real life for many reasons, and I somewhat agree with what they have come up with even though it would not be for me.
I noticed in this little gallery that there was a majority of the robots to replace a human job such as some type of cleaning or something. I also noticed that all of the safety features of these robots all seemed to follow the lines of being destroyed or sent back, which to me shows possibly some xenophobia.
Even then though I was gone from class reading through the comments i found that allot of the robots where used to replace human jobs that nobody wants to do, like cleaning and maintaining home life. Also allot of the robots where to be used as pest control. Allot of the robots had shut off switches just in case the robot malfunctioned and started to endanger Human beings. If i had been here I would have liked to have seen what these robots look like , and to see the imagination that people have in class.

I wasn't here to see all of the other robot ads but by the looks of the comments, all of them seemed to do something that involved mechanical aspects and helped to improve our everyday lives. Things all robots should do. It seemed like everyone prepared for the worst, supplying them with off switches.

ReplyDeleteThey were all everyday life conveniences, nothing too ground breaking. They all had safety features regarding people.
