The "Frakenstein Complex" In Our World?

How did the articles that you read in Popular Science, Scientific American, Discover Magazine, NASA impact your thinking about the technology humans create?  Did the articles make you reconsider The Frankenstein Complex?  Please quote and cite your article(s) as you incorporate them within your blog response.  This blog response is due by Monday, November 3rd at 2:30p.m.

  1. The articles I read really didn't make me reconsider the Frankenstein Complex, but at the same time, I hace thought more on it. I still thought the same thing- that we have a fear of what we create. But, what we create is also helpful.
The technology we create, it's our choice weather to fear it or not. That's how the articles impacted my thinking.

  2. A Few refereed to how we are making military robots, small but have extremely powerful weaponry. The only fear is, what would happen if it was hacked into and used against us.

  3. The articles on these sites made me rethink the Frankenstein Complex. It made me ask the question: are these controversial things really worth it? So much could go wrong. Human lives could be at risk. Some articles discusses robotics in surgery, which would place human lives in robot "hands".

  4. The article that made me think about the Frankenstein complex was "Popular Science." There were many short stories about what robots can do in our lives today. The story that captured my attention was "Can robots fight Ebola?" It discussed how robots can carry waste from the sick patients and put them in their graves so that nobody else will catch the disease. I don't think we should fear mechanical men because they can improve human life. These stories talk about all the amazing things robots can do for us.

  5. The articles I read didn't make me reconsider The Frankenstein Complex but instead made me realize how relevant it is in our lives. We are creating this technology that is very helpful yet we then become scared of what this technology is capable of doing.

  6. The articles didn't really change how I feel about the Frankenstein complex because there wasn't any articles that really showed technology that humans should be afraid of. It is also human choice wether they want to be afraid of technology or not. One possible thing that could go wrong is that the technology could malfunction.

  7. The articles that we read impacted my thinking about the technology we create, because it may be getting to the point where it is to advanced soon. This also made me rethink The Frankenstein Complex because if the technology gets to advanced it could go very well, or very bad. If it goes some thing extreme such as robots taking over towns, countries, or even the world possibly.

  8. One of the articles I read was about how they were making robots that could be ebola nurses, they just needed "to see if the robots were up for it." A couple things about this concern me. One, how is it possible that robots could be more useful and intelligent than us? After all, we made the robots they have to be as limited as we are in intelligence right? Secondly, the way they talk about the robots seeing "if they're up for it" like they're human already. If technology has free will where do we as humans end up? This article as well as the other ones just really make me contemplate the Frankenstein complex by way of these questions.

  9. One of the articles about human life like robots impacted my thinking about the technology that humans create. In my opinion, I think the creating robots is a bad idea because a robot can suddenly learn how to be smarter than humans. Also, the fact that if there were robots, lonely people will be friends with robots. Robots are obviously not real people. This makes me reconsider the frankenstein complex because obviously I am afraid of new technology that humans are creating.

  10. I read an article on popsci about the new Christopher Nolan movie interstellar. the article talked about the robots in the movie, but the article didn't really pertain to the Frankenstein complex because it talked about the robots in a critical way and it didn't have any fear aspect to it, but I can still relate to fear of robots because in a way space ships and space travel rely on robots and dying I space is something I fear. if the robots fail so do you.

  11. The articles that I read made me think about how much technology as helped us and will come to help us, but also how detrimental it could be. The articles reminded me of the Frankenstein Complex because the machines we made can come to harm us even though we had the intention of being useful and helpful.

  12. I read the scientific american article and the biggest thing that I noticed about the website is that almost every article was on the topic of robots and how they are being implemented in our every day lives. I don't reconsider my thinking behind the Frankenstein complex because I do think that we are worried about what we create, I just believe that we aren't as worried to the extent that we should be about the advances we have made in the robotic field and technology in total.

  13. The Scientific American article on UAVs related to the Frankenstein Complex by making us consider if we want unmanned systems obnoxiously hovering above. The technology is still new and under-developed which shows more research and development should be done. While UAVs reduce the risk of pilot casualties, buzzing drones over head may be more problematic than beneficent.

  14. The articles I read made me think of the Frankstein Complex because we keep on building these robots and new tecnology but we dont know the effect it will have on us. One article said that they were making robots that would help with Ebola so that we dont get it and I don't think that article had the complex in it.

  15. The articles made me reconsider the Frankenstein complex because unlike the traditional "mob scene" that occurs in literature, people seem to embrace technological advanced more in real life. In a world where our technology does a lot of thinking for us, we are becoming less and less aware of when it is happening.

  16. The articles I read made me reconsider the Frankenstein Complex because it shows how people building the robots depend so much on them when they don't consider the future or what will happen. What happens if their is a mistake or the technology turns against us like the movie i-Robot?

  17. The articles I read did make me reconsider the Frankenstein Complex because it shows us how Robots can do so many great things for us and that we don't have to be afraid of them. An article that I thought was interesting was where Robots can help fight Ebola. They would help us with the the patients that do that Ebola.

  18. The technology we create can be very useful, as stated in many of the articles. But even though technology was created with good intent, the user is the one who decides whether it will be used for good or bad. But overall, the way robotics is heading looks promising.

  19. The articles that I read showed me that technology is becoming more useful and advanced, but how far will we take it. Could the Frankenstein Complex become a real thing? This is the question I asked when reading about was the implication of an artificial heart. A robot heart that beats and pumps blood just like a real one. Another text i read was about a robot that acts like a companion. It helps patients with lifting things and helps people cheer up with positive facial expressions. Could this AI become our greatest fears.
