  1. Well now, I read an article called "Creator of Neutron Bomb Leaves an Explosive Legacy" hosted by forward.com, so right of the bat you can see where there might be a Frankenstein complex. The project lead on the creation of the Neutron bomb and co-creator of the Hydrogen bomb was named Samuel Cohen and the article showed his absolute disgust in the contribution he made to wholesale murder. He even went on the write a memoir entitled "(Expletive) you Mr. President." The article incorporates Cohens moral and ethical struggles dealing with the repercussions of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and how he had to live the rest of his life with the enormous guilt that came with the debacles.

  2. As I watched the video about Rescue Robot ATLAS, I was very surprised to see how human it was. It walked like and it even had a similar anatomy to humans. It made me think about many movies where robots are created but feared, like I Robot. What if that happens in the future? We'll become so engrossed by creating something so human using machines and technology and gears and it will blind us. We won't realize we're creating monsters until we actually do.

The articles that the class had to read were interesting and yet concerning. One of the concerning articles mentioned how a 3D printer could “create” food and mine asteroids all at once. How can a machine mine rocks and serve food without poisoning people and malfunctioning? Food can contaminate data found in rocks, the rock particles can contaminate food and the food can damage the machinery and something really bad can happen. “Although most 3D printers create objects out of simple structural materials such as plastics or metals, there’s no reason why you couldn’t build using a different material…like food.(Powell)” This article doesn’t depict the Frankenstein complex because it is not an invention that should be feared instantly and the knowledge of 3D printers in not unfamiliar.

  4. The article I read, I Am Robot Boss, was interesting but made me think about what humanity has done to each other. One thing that went through my mind was how we let technology take over our life and how we end up having no control over it. Also, I believe that, in some future, the money invested on the robot can be used to higher an actual person that can benefit from the job. Interesting to see how all the employees did not like the idea of a "Robot Boss". I think this would be the only time that someone rejects technology.

The articles that i read impacted my thinking because it has made me wonder what is going to happen into the future and what the humans have done to robots. The articles made me realize the Frankenstein complex because the future of our world could all be based off of robots and other machines. It will make the human worth less. The article "I am Robot Boss" created me to think about how humans have created these machines but these machines are making humans less valuable.

  6. I read an article on cars that can drive themselves. This was scary in a way that it seems humans aren't going to be doing anything in the future. We can create some scary things with our technology, and I don't think we always realize it. To me it seems that technology is going to conquer us, and we won't be able to stop it. It's all our fault, we are going to be the only ones to blame.

  7. The article that I found interesting was the a robot that can hold its own an be created to seem like a human. How much would they cost, who would want one, what kind of audience are they going for? The article reminds me of Frankenstein in a way, because when you eventually get bored at looking at a robot you will leave it alone. I think that if they ads some extra features it would be used more. This advertisement in the future may be very successful

  10. The articles I read (http://www.popsci.com/article/technology/i-am-robot-boss?dom=PSC&loc=recent&lnk=2&con=i-am-robot-boss) were pretty interesting and made me think about the threat of an uprising of robots or the technology we create. All of the articles made me rethink the Frankenstein Complex in that maybe it's not the fear of what we create but rather our creations fearing us. I think that these robots are just the premature robots, and that what we can aspire, when it comes to robots is much greater than what we have now.

  11. I read an article titled "Robots Are Already Figuring Out Your Personality" which talked about how software is being developed to recognize the different tones and pitches of human voices, and from there the software analyzes this data and connects the person to something that matches their personality: a sales rep with the same kind of personality, or a site that fits what their needs have been prior to this visit. This technology is a step in the way of robots taking over how humans interact and potentially taking over humans.

  12. The technology humans have created have evolved to almost having a mind of their own. Technology is rapidly changing that its out dating its self within three years. With technology advancing this fast who knows how the future could turn out, it could completely work to our benefit or could turn against us which would define the Frankenstein complex.

  13. I looked at the ATLAS rescue machine and it really made me think in what ways robots are, and are not replacing us. The ATLAS is the most human like robot i have ever seen. I Watched other videos about it and it acts and walks and even balances like a human being. Scary. But in its debut it broke its anckle shwoing us that is extrememly human, that it is fallible. "seen here breaking its ankle and falling over. Ha. Try to overthrow humanity now, dummy." I think that we are fairly far away from domestic robots that we see in stories like Sales Pitch but we are well on our way.

  14. I read about the Asimo robot which is a highly advanced humanoid robot. It is capable of moving from point a to point b even if it involves stairs. It is a robot that is built around the idea of bipedal balance. It looks like a robot but acts like a human which shows that we may be closer to artificial life in robots than we thought which means we may create our own Frankenstein that we will all fear.

  15. I read an article on Popular Science called “How Human Do We Want Our Robots To Look?” It was about a university study that tried to identify how we as people want the robots of the future to look like. It had some interesting results. It found that older people were more willing to have a robot that looked completely human, as opposed to younger people. It also identified that the task the robot was designed to do had some bearing on the survey results. For example, people were less willing to have a human looking robots if its role was to care for you personally, “…47% of people wanted it to look like a robot…” It is a great example of the Frankenstein complex because it shows how society is more fearful of things that we create that are robotic in nature but are similar to humans, like Frankenstein’s creature was close to being human.

  16. The articles that we read were not that surprising to me or new to me because i read about and see this kind of IT advancement on a daily basis. It doesn't strengthen my feelings of the Frankenstein Complex as much as it intrigues me. Some of the new technology that was developed could become endangering in some way shape or form, but overall humans have full control over it.

  17. People create technology that is far too advanced these days. The abilities of robots and computers are so in depth that they will develop a mind of their own and keep getting smarter to the point of overpowering its creator. EPICAC was shown to be able to take in info even further than it was intended and went past its capabilities to scarily become smarter and more dangerous than its creators.

  18. I watched a video of a drone that you walk around on a leash. The concept of having something hovering over you like that and watching you is kind of intimidating. Invasion of privacy and freedom is a common theme in the Frankenstein Complex.

  19. when I read the articles about the scientific discoveries it was pretty cool but also kinda scary. It's cool that there is a robot dog that can navigate it's way through a forest and maybe infiltrate enemy bases, but what is scary about it is what happens when the enemy gets hold of this kind of technology.

  20. An iPhone app that lets you scan your cells for cancer seems like a genuinely good idea, but people are using it's abilities to see through solid objects, to invade peoples personal life. Although it causes a major privacy concern, the maker of the app is taking no credit for the flaws and instead, focusing on what can be beneficial. The app is similar to Frankenstein Complex in the way that the technology is not being used for it's intended purpose, and the maker of that technology is not choosing the most responsible choice

  21. I read the article I Am Robot Boss from the website popular science and its was so interesting how regardless of authority, being run by a computer is something unappealing to most humans. A quote from the article says "I was 3000 miles away burning up valuable reserves of professional dignity. I am formless, cut off. I am literally out of control." This shows the idea that humans are unwilling to be run by computers, regardless of who is at the other end

  22. Every time a new gadget is invented that lets humans become more lazy then we already are, we should get scared. Studies show that less and less people remember other people's numbers because you can just save it in your phone contacts. Studies also show that people are forgetting their sense of directions because so many people use gps. What will happen when technology fails us. My guess that today if we were stripped from some of the more technical technology like phones and gps, our race would be handicapped.

  23. i checked out "A Night With The World's Greatest Robot Bartenders." i know its kinda weird but this article kid of freaked me out. A robot like this has the abbillity to a do job that is done by trained proffesionals. that means its possible more could be produced to the point the job is gone all togeather. What if it dosent stop there? what if ther are teacher bots, or robocops? it seems like a uneccacary dirrection.

  24. The articles I read all showed how the robots are becoming more human-like. This is kind of the opposite direction I think we should be going because human-like robots are intimidating. I feel like this is a reoccurring theme in the Frankenstein complex.
