Extrapolation And Future Schools?

Now that you have read many of your peers' Future School Extrapolation Projects, what are you thinking?  Holistically, what are your reasonable extrapolations regarding all of the extrapolations you have read?  What potential changes excite you the most?  What potential changes fill you with angst and apprehension?  Other thoughts?

  1. everything must be electronic in the future... wonder what happens to the energy crisis? how come we as individual learners become almost obsolete? why must we depends on tech so much?

  2. As I was walking around the room looking at presentations, I noticed almost everybody said that paper would be non existent. Many said that cell phones and iPads would be the next thing. Homework assignments as well as classes would be completed using those. Along with that, I saw that a lot of students said that student to teacher interaction would be all through email or text. This is, if there were any teachers at all. Over all, I saw that the trend of new technology was discussed.

  3. I think the future will be very electronic because we're heading in that direction really quickly already. Going electronic would be good because we wouldn't use so much paper and things can be more organized and everything would be stored and we could make backups. I really hope we don't become entirely lazy in the future and do nothing for ourselves because what we have now in our world is because of hard work and if we just stopped doing anything active our world would fall apart.

  4. Im thinking that our schools are going to be even more high in technology . The changes that excite me the most are the fact of school buses hovering around repelling off magnets and the fact that a lot of people said that we will all have i pads or tablets to keep track of our daily assignments and lessons. The ones that fill me with angst and apprehension are the facts that people predicted we will all be overweight and unhealthy due to all the new technological advances. I think that technology is gonna take over the world and take over all schools soon as it is already changing.

  5. Drew Fasolds and I extrapolations were very reasonable compared to everyone else in the class. I noticed trends including flying school buses and finger print scanners. Many people also said that kids in school will all being using tablets instead of computers and i think that will actually happen in the near future. I really hope in the year 2052 that there are flying school buses because it would get the kids to school in record time.

  6. Many people thought that in 50 years, schools would not have teachers. Instead they would have robots or Skype to teach the students. Most also said that paper would not be used anymore because everything is online and paper costs too much. I'm excited to see how much the technology will advance in 50 years and how digital all the work will be.

  7. Many of the students had their piece based off technology and how it will be the new way of learning and teaching. It sounds like it would all be a good idea but what would it come with like expenses and the risks of working with just technology. A fear that was mentioned a few times was obesity and being concerned that we will become potatoes in class lacking our daily exercise.

  8. I am both excited and dreading the future. A lot of what was on the projects, was the idea that technology is going to change dramatically in the next couple of decades. Many think that technology will change so dramatically that people aren't going to have to walk around anymore. This is the part of the future that I am dreading. However, the use of ipads instead of paper excites me because everything will be done faster and more efficiently. The Future Schools of 2052 will be both advanced and the key to future success.

  9. The extrapolations shared by most of the class was the phasing out of teachers, as well as a universal use of high tech tablets, or a very computer and technology based school day. Other trends I noticed was the change in the beginning and ending time of school. Potentially, that would be the extrapolation I look forward to the most. I am more concerned about the lack of teachers, since there is a primal instinct in all humans to for a need to have human interaction. Theoretically, the future of schooling should be a great place, and a great learning environment, and I hope that teachers will still be a vital part of the school environment.

  10. In the year 2052, schools will be all electronic I have noticed, with tablets and touch screens people won't have to use paper anymore. The school hours have also changed, some with shorter days or longer days most of them start school off later. Each project was different, but some said teachers will be there through Skype. Some projects said we need teachers because they can change opinion and emotion unlike a computer. Although I wont be in school then, some new changes that excite me are tablets/electronics for future generations. Part of me wants to keep things old school, and not advance but the other part says move on and find new technology.

  11. The future is all about the technologies that will come into affect in the next 40 years so that students no longer need any supplies for school other than a laptop or tablet that can take notes and complete all assignments. The classrooms and the way we are taught also has been electronically enhanced so that the entire environment is electronic. But is the future going to be like this because we are becoming lazier or because we find the information to be better?

  12. What I am thinking is that everyone was thinking around the same ideas. That every student would have tablets that synced with the school. The school is paperless or that we will become obese and unfit. One reasonable extrapolation was that all the tree's would be gone. We use so much paper every day that it could happen by 2052. Another on is that every one would have a tablet. The potential changes excite me the most is that every one will have tablets. It'd be cool to no longer have to take notes or waste paper. Backpacks won't be so heavy because all you would need is the tablet and a hand. The changes that fill me with angst are that there would be no tree's left, or that wood desks would become metal desks.

  13. Virtual teaching and home courses are the norm now and actually going to school will be as awkward as homeschooling 20 years ago. The most interesting thing that I saw was the virtual Chip and I thought that that was very interesting. The thought that we could just download the information straight off the web is an exciting thing. I'm very angst about what the future of musical education will be, such a large part of culture I feel like that will start to fade out from society and music will become more of a trivial pursuit. I have hopes that the future will keep art and Drama within schools so as to preserve our beautiful culture, and with that I feel that a lot of heritages will be melded even further where everyone will have relation to some country and all forms of literature and art and science will be shared globally.

  14. I think that technology would most definitely change. The students would also have some sort of portable technology, the teaching would change slightly, and the architecture would be smoother and flowing. Everything would also be computerized including the most simplest things.

  15. I noticed that many people described how there will be no need for a pencil or pen in the future because everyone will use use computers instead of writing things down by hand. If any of these future things were to come true, I would be looking forward to advanced cell phones the most because I think it would be fun to see all the new sorts of technology created to make our lives easier. If there is one thing that scares me the most about the future it is that everyone will be over weight and unhealthy because they will have machines doing most things for them. I personally feel like things won't be that different in schools in 2052 but then again maybe there will be all new kinds of technology that will make things not so stressful in our everyday life.

  16. With all of the other projects I’ve seen, we think that there will be touch tablets in use of notebooks, pens, paper and pencils. It is more efficient space wise and it use less resources. the cost evens out to use an iPad for five years instead over buying countless numbers of school supplies. The majority also said that teacher robots will replace humans because of the cost. Most of the other topics like food and transportation was varied for the most part. It’s surprising to see how much we all thought the same.

  17. There were lots of trends that we saw today during the extrapolation project. Everything in the future is holographic. In just about every project the author mentioned that there was probably going to be some type of 3d phone or tablet that we would take notes on. With the roles of teachers, they wouldn't really have a big role in the classroom. One trend that i picked up on is either everything is done online or via a skypee like connector. I'm not really excited for the laziness brought about by the future. Everything is going to be all online so this means people would just be sitting there instead of actively getting in and contributing into class. The change I'm most excited about is the different types of learning that will come about. Simulations of past events and will be there for students to study and in my dream world they will have much more hands on activities.

  18. A common theme that I saw in many of the future schools project was our reliance on technology. Many people had the idea that school would be taught through skype or by robots. Along with that, many students predicted that pencil and paper would no longer be used. Their replacements would be ipads, touchscreens, and computers. Another common theme I saw was the fact that we would be less mobile in the future. Moving walkways and portals were common. The result of this was the prediction that the human race would become overweight and obese. This project reminds of certain science fiction stories such as Farenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. Bradbury predicted that the human race would become reliant technology and he challenges the idea that technology is always good. In the book, the excessive amount of technology causes overcensorship. Could this be our fate too?

  19. After Reading the Future School Extrapolation projects, I noticed a lot of similar trends in how people view future schools. Almost everyones project had something to do with learning information through tablets and computers instead of books, which I feel is probably the future of our schools looking at advancing technology trends. Going along with the idea of advancing technology I realized almost everyone had done away with teachers, whether it was completely ridding of them or having them teach through web portals. Another trend I noticed was that people began to work on space travel and inventing, a particular project had an annual field trip to space while another had classes on how to build space crafts. Lastly, a trend that I thought was interesting was the fact that a few of the projects had done away with foreign languages and had the universal spoken language be English. I think all of these ideas are very insightful and achievable in the next 40 years, we don't know exactly what schools are going to look like in the year 2052 but I feel like these projects have shown Ideas that will soon be a reality in schools everywhere.

  20. I noticed that a majority of the students believe that notebooks, pens, pencils and textbooks are going to be phased out and one tablet will be used for everything. Also the use of Skype as a tool for teaching larger classes was a popular theme. I don't know how I would feel about having 50 people in one class with a teacher who isn't actually present. I tend to seek out the teachers after lessons and ask them for help. I noted a few projects mentioned more specialized learning geared toward the student's individual interests and aspirations. I think that would be an improvement upon the more hypothetical curriculum found in classrooms today.

  21. While my partner and I were walking around the classroom and analyzing different future school projects, we came up with a set of trends that we saw when looking at any of the Sci-fi projects. The trends included everything being digitized, the students carrying their materials digitally on a advanced and powerful tablet of some kind, the days start later than they do now, teachers have been eliminated, other advanced technology, such as a holographic projector, and finally the elimination of the traditional classroom setup. The changes that excite me the most would be digitization of all school materials. This excites me because I really do dislike carrying around all of my materials everyday. And, it would allow for further learning/interactivity. The next change that I was quite excited about was the elimination of the traditional classroom. I like the implementation of advanced technology and modern design that would be seen in future schools. That in my opinion, is for the better. I really did not see anything that I would personally dislike in the presentations, which I’m sure there will be something in the future, but for now, there isn’t.

  22. The "Future in Schools" project presented a plethora of futuristic teaching methods and technological advances. Some are viable educational innovations while others pose shortcomings in common sensibility and funding. Many of the projects seemed to be just imaginative concepts with little sense of realistic extrapolation, though they made for fun viewing. I don’t have enough knowledge about how fast technology and concepts advance to make an educated guess as to what schools will look like in forty years, aside from a greater dependence on tablets and smaller, cordless electronics. None of the thoughts so much scare me as they do make me wonder. Though the unknown isn’t for the faint of heart but it’s my best guess that eventually none of this will be scary. Changes will all just be accepted as ordinary elements in society.

  23. During our future schools gallery walk in class, I noticed several trends. The first and main trend I noticed was the move towards technology. Several people discussed that pens, paper, and books would all be obsolete and replaced with touch technology. Some said that everything would be stored on a tablet like an iPad. The general trend was to move away from paper and move toward technology. Another trend I noticed was the use of video conferencing and Skype. If the classes were not all on video chat, then if you were absent you could video chat, or a teacher could video chat with multiple classes at one time. The use of video technology was a common theme throughout these projects. Another trend I observed in a few projects was the decline in health of the human race. A few people commented that students would all be over weight in the future because the need to walk was destroyed by new transportation technology. I think a reasonable extrapolation is the move from paper to technology, as that shift has already started to happen. I personally don’t think the nation will be as fat as they were predicting, because people are aware of all the issues now and are working to change it.

  24. There were many similarities from the class extrapolations. I found that almost all of the students extrapolated that classrooms will be filled with technology. Paper won't be needed much when tablets and high-tech touch computers are owned by every student. A unique trend that I didn't think would be popular was how lockers in 2052 will be obsolete. With all class work on one gadget including textbooks, there won't be a need for the locker to store other class materials. The thought of having no teachers in the class was fought over. Some students believed that human interaction with an elder was still very important while others believed that a robotic or computerized teacher would be more realistic. I believe that without teachers, many jobs will be diverged into the technology field which makes sense for the speed at which we will want new gadgets. Many of the extrapolations, I viewed as being pretty realistic and even though there were many different approaches, most students saw Arapahoe High School heading in the same direction.

  25. Although I was unable to view the other extrapolation projects, based off of mine, I would say that our extrapolations are very possible and arguably highly likely. Because technology is such a booming industry worldwide and as more countries are continuing to advance their world of science and technology, it is not far fetched to say it would be brought into the world of academics. I think that it is exciting that less school spending could lead to higher quality athletes, one way to make a healthier world I suppose. However, it worries me that if in future schools, materials can be learned from at home, that people will become so unsocial, they will almost become dependent on their technology to keep them "company."

  26. basing my view on the two i saw, i would say that most of the other projects had similar ideas of using holographic projections for teachers and other such needs. we depend so much on tech already, so one can only imagine the effects of 50 years from now.

  27. I wasn't present the day that we read each others projects, but from reading the comments posted above, I get the sense that a lot of people had a lot of similar ideas. The most common idea I saw was how much technology would be present in the class room; holograms, no paper, no teachers, etc. I think this is believable because our society even now relies so much on teachnology that it is only going to get worse and worse as the years go on. Side note: I believe as well that there will be no libraries in the future, they are already starting to close down, and everyone is going to have a Nook or Kindle. It will be ridiculous and I really hope the value of sitting down and actually reading a good book, will not completely die.

  28. Some things that excite me that about new schools that i read from eveyones papers is that students will have more freedom and less staff. I also liked how technology will advance also in the near future. In some peoples papers i read that we wont have hardly any traffic going anywhere and making it to school on time would not be a problem for people. Then we will have all of our assignments on our phone that i read in one paper and that would be neat because then u wouldnt have to worry about all the papers u need to turn in. It will be all right there on your phone.
