Reality Or Augmented Reality?

Based upon the Augmented Reality article, is science intersecting with anything you have been reading or studying in Science Fiction class? Could connections exist? Please reflect upon your thinking and findings. This blog repsonse should be completed in class today.

  1. It is intersecting with the concepts of extrapolation we've seen in many of our readings. This piece of technology was merely an extrapolation in past years most likely, but, like the "radar" in Ralph, it is now becoming reality. It is an example of science fiction leaving the realm of fiction, as some have in the past.

  2. New inventions and discoveries are being made every day. With some of the older science fiction stories the technology they extrapolated would be in the future are sometimes accurate and now we are advancing to some of that technology. Their imagination and ideas have helped us today with our new technology.

  3. I don’t think the article specifically has intersecting to what we have been studying, but it does have some qualities of the types of things that are in the science fiction stories that we have read. It uses technology to provide people with information that they normally wouldn’t be able to access, and that type of service is common in science fiction.

  4. The Augmented Reality arcticle does intersect on recent class studies of extrapolation. Writers from the past extrapolated on a cyber vision that gave statistics on the world around them. Interestingly enough, scientists today have made the extrapolated movie into a reality with technology that will soon become a common cellular resource.

  5. The fact that this is a reality in our world today makes it a bit harder to connect this to things in class that are far from reality. But at the same time there are obvious futuristic qualities about the article that are similar, as far as evolved technology, to many stories in this class.

  6. I think the Augmented Reality is kind of like Morris' windshield in "Sales Pitch". There are connections, but they're more subtle than they are obvious. The Augmented Reality represents a large source of information, but it could also take away from privacy. When this app becomes public, there should be options placed to restrict access to information from certain people.

  7. Science is definitely intersecting with what we’ve been reading in Science Fiction class. While the exact “inventions” and “breakthroughs” may not be exactly the same, the fact of the matter is that we are advancing scientifically. This Augmented Reality could become overpowered by advertisements like in “The Sale.” For the most part, the connections exist because both worlds are creating new inventions and extending their scientific knowledge to further the improvement of society.
As for the actual Augmented Reality, I think that it is kind of scary that our technology has extended this far. I can definitely be used to a stalking degree and I feel like there will be many lawsuits if/when this invention comes to be a reality. I think it is a good idea, but I don’t think it is safe for people to see exactly who is standing across the street from them and what their facebook looks like.

  8. I think that todays advancements are very helpful for out everyday use. We have come so far from the brick phones to ones that today can give you information through the camera and describe the place. It makes me think what will be the next advancements and when will there be a stopping point.

  9. I think that these ideas intersect because we have read about technological advancements and in the "Augmented Reality" article it also talks about these advancements. This is extrapoating technology. They are related because of technology but the difference is that in the article it's a phone and in the stories we've read it has been robots and spaceships.

  10. Although the information in this article does overlap with information I have experienced in other areas it does not intersect with the information we have been covering in my Science Fiction class. I do not think that it does this because the stories that we have read have been focused alot on space exploration and travel instead of earthly based themes.

  11. I don't see any true connections between the augmented reality article and the other articles we read in class because most of the inventions in the articles were for traveling through space and a do anything robot but, a connection that could be made would be the artificial reality generated by the machines in the matrix because in the article it refers to AR visors that can put you in any situation in a virtual reality setting.

  12. like i always say its a small world. This has a lot to do with what I have been learning. it seems that pretty much everything in the extrapolation series we've been learning has been invented in the future. For example the submarine talked about in the steamship story was later created IN REAL LIFE MAN!!! The robot talked about in sales pitch is slowly being created in japan. Scientists are slowly creating robots with human emotions.

  13. The "Reality" article explains that through technology all humans are connected in one way or another. Technology has been able to connect people all around the world that would not have been connected other wise. In the two stories we have read in Science Fiction the technology has been to advanced to be seen in todays society. But we are working to become that connected and advanced in this day and age. Through technology we can become more advanced in what we know and what there is to know.

  14. I see some connections between augmented reality and the articles we have read in class. For one its an example of science fiction because it has been predicted in the past. The article mentioned this as terminator vision, which was once only a fictional idea but like the stories we have read a crazy fictional idea like this is becoming a reality.

  15. I don't think this article directly connects to any one story we've read. To make a connection I feel like I have to cheat a bit. I could say that in the past this idea might have been an extrapolation in the mind of people then, just like the "radar" in Ralph 124c 41+

  16. This article connects with the writings we have read so far in class because the new invention of augmented reality was once only a fantasy just like radar in ralph 124. The author only extrapolated what could happen in the future but used logic behind it. Just like the article is about. 20 years ago no one would have thought we could use augmented reality but we still would have extrapolated the idea.

  17. Science is intersecting with what ive been reading and studying because based on what ive read and studied is that people become reliant on technology. In this article, it shows that when you point your phone at a building or shop it will bring up information about it. I think people really will be reliant on technology so this only makes me believe it more.

  18. This article intercepts with the recent study of extrapolation. What people write about in the past has given us ideas for inventions in the future. What people dream about with the lifestyles of our future are very close to reality.

  19. This article is very interesting and it is cool to see how this technology has become reality. These concepts presented in the article probably have been extrapolated in the past, just like in Ralph 124c 41+ with how radar was extrapolated, but soon enough it became a reality. So Augmented reality can be compared to the excerpts read in class.

  20. Science and Science fiction are defently intersecting. science is beging to extrapolate into new technology with futuristic purposes today. Our reading has been showing us different inventions that showcase extrapolation for the future. Just as technology is doing for us.
