Pure Science Fiction?

Reflect upon what you have contemplated this semester in Science Fiction. Concepts? Films? Texts? Technology? Other? What did you find interesting? What predictions do you have about our Science Fiction future?

  1. I have contemplated many things about science fiction, a few of which are good things. Science fiction helps every one of us understand humanity as a whole and how to change ourselves for the better. Behind the oddities and gruesomeness of the stories lie many secrets to unfold about ourselves. And if we look beyond the story (however bland, vile or terrifying it may be) there is an obvious message about humans that we can apply to our daily lives.

  2. I have found it interesting how each and every story is unique in its own way. Science fiction is a genre that never really gets old, because people are always reinventing it.

  3. With the artileI read shoppers didnt even have to enter the store to try on watches and just stay out side. what I found interesting was people wouldnt have to wait outside to try on clothing.

  4. This year in science fiction I learned a lot including new science fiction terms. There were many things I found interesting like what xenophobia is. I think that in the future the things we read about will be more realistic but we have a long way to go until we can time travel.

  5. We have learned about extrapolation, xenophobia, paradox, and The Frankenstien Theory. I though learning about xenophobia was really interesting and the texts related to it was really interesting too. i thought that we learned about the problems that kind of exist in our society today, plus it was interesting learning about time travel.

  6. well the genre of science fiction has expanded my ever expanding wanderlust of knowledge. i hear the question how more in my hear then any other question of hear ever. And the answers i get a rarely directed at answering and specific question i have. but thought this semester i have come to see the broader view of society, in that i can understand society and its ethics and evolution. i can see better how society and people themselves were affected at times in the past and i can see better how people view the present based off these older sci fi stories. truly i have learned more about the social structure and how it functions, and i believe once Wireless current, Quantum computers, and very good atonamoton (robots with bipedal movement) are here, which will be within a decade or so, will once again change society again. and now ill see how its changed and most importantly how.

  7. I thought that the time travel was really cool. One day I think time travel will be possible. I think that science fiction shows the imagination mixed with something that could come true and that is really cool.

  8. I think Sci-Fi is going to be based more on self destruction that the human race tries to prevent. Not like Terminator but more conflict of beliefs or ways to achieve goals. This class has definetly taught me to think outside the box and was taught to analyze in a unique way unlike I have ever done before.

  9. Most of the technology I read about in this google reader was automation. Everything you could ever think of is being automated, from drivers, to kidneys, to even bosses! How long will it before we are facing issues similar to in "the human element"?
All of these issues faced in these stories are quickly becoming pertinent. These books are parables for modern life.

  10. I have found that science fiction can range to hundreds of things. Like the Frankenstein theory or the Grandfather Paradox. I love the genre and I hope that I can teach this in the future.

  12. I now know a lot more about science fiction than I did before this class. Sci-fi class has made me think more about all of the increasing and advancing technologies of our time. It makes me a little disturbed to think about how technology might become more advanced than us. And we might not be than well off in the future.
