Based upon your recent reading of articles in Google Reader regarding science and technology, what connections or observations can you make about your read article(s) and the concepts and stories we have read or viewed? Please complete this blog response in class on 4-2-10.

  1. I thought it was crazy that we now have 3D televisions. This makes watching tv even more realistic than it ever has been. I think that this may cause people to continue to become more involved in there technology rather than with the outside world and the things going on around them. Many people may find it more interesting to play like like video games and watch these almost real tv shows than experiencing real life.

  2. The technology that is in development is being treated much like how strange technologies are treated in our readings. We treat and look at the technology like it is strange, yet predictable. We act like we know what is needed to make it work, but it is never as we expect. The time frames and the experience with the type of technology is very different in stories like "the man who came early" and now, but our mindset stays human and so does our thought process.

  3. If you just search technology, no matter what link you click on you encounter something involving the iPad. Everyone is always obsessed with the newest and greatest, but soon there will be something that will replace the iPad and we will all forget about it. Technology moves so fast that it is hard to keep up with.

  4. as it appears the goal of weapons now a days is not to kill. technology if finally catching up to things like phasers with the new XREP that is a taser slug fired from a shotgun. with it the range of tasers has increased and also the way in which the paralyzing jolt is delivered. it shows that a less primal society is evolution, but then again were still shooting a target. we simply set our phasers to stun.

  5. In some of the stories we have read, there has been a lot of time spent on not having much privacy. Some of the technology that is coming out now limits privacy also.

  6. I cannot find any connections to my google reader site and what we have read. I think that most of the stuff we have read about is way further in time then we currently are. Also i think that with the space age and flight and the automobile invention all occuring so close together that the future seemed much brighter than what it is

  7. I read an article on transformers and about how possible it could be. One kid that was trying to get into a college to get his PhD made a remote control transformer that well actually change from being a car to standing up and walking on its own. I enjoyed it because it showed that were are actually not to far away from these movies that are be created and that these objects in the movies can be created right now.

  8. In late March, NASA awarded money to five companies so that they could provide "air-breathing engine technologies", whatever that means. This funding will hopefully be helpful for NASA and well worth the money spent on it. They have also given out contracts to help plan new spacecraft.

  9. All the stories that are in my Google reader and the recent stories that we have read in class are all connected to Xenophobia. And how we and other's can be afraid of any new thing.

  10. I think more and more technology has become much more convenient and easy to access. Nowadays you can go anywhere on a seach engine, such as google, and find anything that you are looking for. In the stories we've read, the more technology becomes convenient, the more complex and overwhelming it becomes as well.

  11. I read an article about a DARPA Chief testifying that there was a "nerd shortage to the House Armed Services Committee saying that teenagers are less interested in science and engineering. How this relates to he stories in science fiction stories that we read is that we could loose our technology and knowledge and then animals would be running the world with humans as their pets.

  12. The coolest thing I saw in reader was a template for a diy pinhole camera! all that is old is new again.

  13. I read about some "out-of-this-world" cookies that are headed to the international space station for microbiological testing. It seems that if NASA can pull off a request for some cookies that the stories we've been reading in class aren't so unbelievable after all. Perhaps we just need to go about time travel investigation in a different way.

  14. I read about some of the televisions that can now show in 3-D. There was such a debate on which one was better, was it reall worth the fight? Isn't just the fact that we have come so far something to celebrate? I think that this can relate to "Sales Pitch" actually because no matter what we can have or buy, there can be something that becomes "better" for us to waste our time with.

  15. There is a lot of new technology coming out. We all think it is really cool and we all want to be a part of it. But in some of the stories we have read, some of the technology malfunctions. So that may be a possiblility in our future, where the technology gets way out of our control.

  16. Most of the technology I read about was automation. Everything you could ever think of is being automated, from drivers, to kidneys, to even bosses! How long will it before we are facing issues similar to in "the human element"?
