News Presentation Commentary

After you watch the News of the Future presentation in class (September 18th), please post some comments about what you saw.

  • Identify the person (first name, last initial) or the group (name one person in the group), then tell what you thought of their (1) ideas and (2) the way the ideas were presented.
  • If you see or hear something good, please be specific about what you liked.
  • If you see room for improvement, please make your suggestions constructive (don't just rip on people).
  • As always, make your comments appropriate for class and your worldwide audience.

  1. One of the presentations I saw was with Chelsea, Vivian, and I think one more group member. I like the way it was presented because it looked like a real, proffesional website. The article I liked the most was the one about polar bears. It was about how they found the last polar bear because global warming killed the others. It was interesting because one of my articles was similar to that, talking about global warming so it really appealed to me.

  2. I thought Mallory had some really interesting ideas. I don't know how realistic they could be for only 100 years into the future, but they were really unique. A future where the male population is dwindling because they are no longer needed? It sounds far-fetched, but the way she presented it made it seem rather clever. The only thing I disliked about her presentation was the fact that her news articles were printed on the back of the first page. The pictures from the front bled through a little and were somewhat distracting.

  3. I saw Mallory's presentation, and I thought it was really good. Her idea of the future having one news source made completely by the government , and therefore making her newspaper up to being an illegal underground paper was a great idea. It was unique and was a reasonable prediction of the future. Her presentation was quite good, as she didn't simply read the articles, she summarized them and then explained how they were relevant in the future.

  4. Sarahs' group talked about cloning pets. I though tthat could actually happen. They said that cloning pets would be a common thing in every day life. I liked to hear about the cloning because I also thought that cloning would become more popular. I thought it was a good presentaition and had good detail. I didn't see anything that needed to be changed.

  5. The News of the Future presentations were very creative. I liked how Jillian presented hers with a different accent, which added to the project because she didn't just tell us what her project was she showed us by putting herself in the time.

  6. Something that I saw that I liked was in Erik S's presentation that I thought was good was the elevator into space. This was very interesting because it would give everyone the opportunity to experience outer space and anti-gravity. The presentation was given in a narrated video which was very effective and really added to the news-style structure. Overall, there were a good amount of cliched concepts but the extrapolations based on them made them more interesting.

  8. One person that presented to me was Casey K. I thought that his ideas were very interesting and presented very well. I thought that the hovering cars sounded really cool and I liked the way that he made it sound like an actual news broadcast that we would hear today on the news. He really had some great ideas!

  9. Chelsea M, Vivian, ect.. 1. Some articles were simple, but others were extremely well thought-out. My favorite article was the one about the ability to specify and basically build your child. Through genetic engineering, this is a possibility in the future and it is also extremely freaky. I also liked how it was extremely similar to online newspaper sites now... like the Arapahoe Herald's online site. I realize the limitations and think they did well with what they could. I also thought the pictures added much to the presentation because, as always, pictures add interest. All over great job!

  10. I thought that Jillian did a very nice job of presenting. She got the audience in the "feel" of what the news will look like in the future for an older generation. She presented with a british accent as if she were an old lady. I liked her idea that there was (will only be) one written newspaper because everyone else will be using technology.

  11. Both of the presentations that I saw included very creative ideas and showed that the presenters worked very hard on their projects. Casey's presentation was very good and he made it enjoyable because he set it up to be like a real news broadcast. He had great ideas that were both realistic and creative. He spoke about how the hovering car will be more common in the future, and this idea demonstrated the extrapolation of an idea that we already know is possible. Analise, Anna, and Hope created a very entertaining and creative presentation in the form of a news station website. Each of their ideas was well thought out and each showed evidence of extrapolation. Their ideas were believable as well as very creative. They did a great job creating a neat and professional website, which displayed their ideas very well.

  12. In my opinion, Rachel did a very good job at presenting! Her creative idea was about new technology made towards swimmers, which was well-fitted considering how quickly our society advances. The way in which she presented the article was well done, because she talked as though it happened in the moment. She also made her story into an newspaper-like article which is a trend that still could be seen in the future. I found myself at a tiny quandary at one point; trying to understand all of the complicated dialect she chose, but besides that I think she did a fairly decent job. :)
