  1. As Influential as the movie may of been in the past, By today's standards the film could be viewed as cheesy, sexist, and even controversial. some themes I can see that could've been an influence on other films are the stasis fields (star Trek), sounds (ufo sounds), and laser weapons (basically every sci-fi show)

  2. One of the most important things I took note of was the fact that the film took place entirely on another planet. I'm sure many other films wanted to have their setting on another planet, but it would have been too experimental. After this film so many other films had the opportunity to expand their horizons in terms of setting. I think the way they went about it was also very thought-through. They presented a mysterious world with technology so advanced it might as well be magic, but they also included some element of danger.

  3. I mean, the film was confusing, but I can appreciate how it laid the groundwork for then-future sci fi films.

  4. I guess it was trying to be philosophical.

  5. After I watched this film I realized this wasn't teh greatest movie that was created but it set a cornerstone for movies and literature to come in the future and have some of the same ideas (on another planet ect.). This relates to the quote because it says basically all sci-fi films should be thankful that this movie came out

  6. The film was/is not as influential as it was in the past. It was all filmed on “one planet”. It is very interesting that it was Morpheus's subconscious that was trying to kill and hurt everyone. I think if that idea were in a move today, it could be a great horror movie. The ideas in that movie are interesting in the old times when this movie was made, but now there are way more ideas that are crazier and make people’s mind think and race.

  7. I am thinking about how big of a deal this movie was. It was a inspiration to science fiction films that would come after it. When I watched the film, I noticed things that look like other things we in science fiction down the line. I saw things that looked similar to Star Wars and Star Trek. It is also very notable that it was the first movie to take place on an entire different planet. Overall, this film was groundbreaking for science fiction, and would change the genre forever.

  8. The most important thing that I took into count was that that Forbidden Planet was the first movie to be a completely diffirent planet like no other before. This is important because it led to other movies in that have been produced after. Also some of the futuristic ideas that are in the movie can be seen in other films.

  9. I think that the movie may have not been the best movie ever created, but it carved a path for science fiction. It was the first movie to be on a completely different planet. It was very cheesy and sexist, but so were a lot of science fiction movies back then and some now. This movie started the idea of creating a new idea as far as a completely new plant and it taken way bigger now.

  10. I think Forbidden Planet set bar for all of the science fiction movies to come. I wouldn't say any other movies are "indebted" to Forbidden Planet, but I think it was a decent place to start. It had some very quality ideas, but it seemed to be trapped by the times in terms of production. I'd be interested to see a modern version of it. If it were to be made as well as the latest Star Trek and Star Wars movies, you could count on my ticket purchase.

  11. Forbidon planet is influenced based on Westerns and on the film is obvious but equally important are ideas of two other productions science fiction film Forbidden Planet and the Shakespeare play that it's loosely based on, The Tempest

  12. Forbidden Planet is influential because it really sets the stage for others science fiction plots and stories. It sets up kind of the hero without flaws. He is handsome, smart, and gets the girl. It, like most Sci-Fi, sets up a story that says something about humanity in the end. Also it sets up a lot of the sci-fi sound effects that we see in modern science fiction.

  13. The film "Forbidden Planet" is thought to be the film that many science fiction films are based off of. Robby the robot was a very big part of what science fiction evolved into. People like the robot and after "Forbidden Planet" He got his own show. He is arguably the leader of science fiction from the 1950's.

  14. Even though Forbidden Planet is at times, a little silly and outdated, we can attribute it to all Sci-Fi films and texts that came after it. I think that is because Forbidden Planet, at its base, has a very traditional story line and very traditional story timing for the period. But on the other hand, it branched out from that plain format with a very creative plot and very creative elements of extrapolation. I think this inspired many other science fiction texts and films because it provided a simple layout, and offered a chance for directors or authors to branch out and inspire the rest of science fiction that came after it.

  15. After watching Forbidden Planet and reading the facts about how impactful it was, it is clear that this film allowed for many new ideas to develop. Being the first film to go completely out of our known world, it allowed other artists in the science fiction movement to move beyond what is known and develop worlds that can only be imagined. The inventiveness and the bravery it took to make this film allowed other works of art to push the boundaries of reality and possibly break down flaws in culture such as sexism which is extremely pointed out in Forbidden Planet. Along with this, the presentation of these new ideas such as music and set allowed for more unique technology in filmmaking. Overall, Forbidden Planet made a big splash in its time and became a stepping stone to what the science fiction genre is now.

  16. Forbidden Planet made a major impact in the Science Fiction community. As the first movie to take place on a planet other than earth, it set many standards. Major films such as Star Wars and Wizard of Oz used ideas from the Forbidden Planet to create their own set. Although somewhat sexist and cheesy, Forbidden Planet greatly influenced the genre of science fiction.

  17. After the viewing of Forbidden Planet, you could see how the movie was ground breaking in the time in came out in. It achieved to be the first in many ways and set a sort of precedent for sci-fi movies to come. But it also showed the social norms of the time and the sexist writing was very apparent throughout the movie.

  18. Now that I have seen forbidden plant beside's the sexist parts we see it also opened my eyes to the idea about robots not able to harm a person with out self-destructing.

  19. Now that I have seen the movie Forbidden Planet and reading the article with quotation it is revealed that this movie had an enormous impact on the Science Fiction community in general, "set the stage" for developing ideas, and/or was an inspiration for authors who want to deeper explore such writing technique.

  20. I see how it laid the groundwork for the science-fiction community as a whole, it made science-fiction a popular genre. Forbidden Planet was the first movie of it's kind to come out so they were either going to make science-fiction popular or it would remain at it's same state.

  21. the impact from forbidden was huge on the genre of sci-fi in general, It was the first movie to be based completely on another planet which laid the groundwork for many movies such as star wars being an example, even though the movie wasn't perfect it gave many possible ideas to other film makers, and it impacted the future for the better

  22. The impact from Forbidden Planet was that it was quiet a confusing movie. However, it was very enjoyable and I can see a lot of sci fi movies using the same ufo noises, living on another planet, robots etc.

  23. Forbidden planet in my opinion was a very deep and thought provoking movie. I found that the twist of Morbius’ subconscious controlling the monster was something that I couldn’t predict. I also enjoyed that metaphor in Morbius’ character that no matter how advanced or intelligent that someone is they still are human therefore still chooses violence when he feels threatened. It is clearly very advanced in its message and its the production. Especially after reading the supplied article to see exactly how it groundbreaking it was in it’s genre.

  24. Forbidden Planet was definitely a huge inspiration for a lot of science fiction movies/stories, it was a completely new take on the genre as a whole for its time. Once other people saw that it wasn't completely impossible to film a movie on a seemingly new planet, it got the ball rolling on outer space movies and discovering new planets, species, ways of life and how other creatures would adapt in different environments. Forbidden Planet was an inspiration, that's for sure. But that does not mean I liked the movie, it may have been a good movie for the time but in a modern context, it's so cheesy that I got indigestion from watching it.
