  2. Xenophobia is when a person has a fear of other people from different countries, you can also dislike these people to. This card activity was hard but it made me think that it was hard to do what other people had on their card and it was scary to do it in front of people.I think it is a fear of something different that is unknown to the person,My card said ask my opinion and It made me think of what people had to do for me.

  3. Xenophobia to me is a lack of rational thought that transfers into fear. It is either fear of an individual or a group that you do not know about and jump to quantum leaps about.

  5. I thought it was very interesting and I'm glad I didn't get the card that said. Ignore me. I think those are the people who felt the affects of xenophobia the most. So my thoughts on it now are still the same to be honest.

  6. I define xenophobia by the book, meaning that I see it as the fear or hatred of foreign things. For the card activity I had "interrupt me", and it was fairly irritating. I can relate this feeling with being on the receiving end of a xenophobic interaction, because I'd imagine it'd be awful to have to put up with micro or macro aggression on the daily. While the card activity was a simplified version, I believe it was still effective.

  7. Xenophobia is the fear of difference. during the card game thing I was confused at first about what was happening, because i had the "take everything I say as a personal insult!" card, but after the second person I caught on to what my card was.

  8. Xenophobia to me is a fear of something different of what you know. Its something you could hate like people from different countries and places.

  9. The card activity showed how xenophobia can make people act towards someone or something according to what they hear during or know how whatever it is acts. The quote I had was "laugh at what I say" and with that everyone did but it make for weird encounters so I could see how wrong first encounters could happen with xenophobia.

  10. Xenophobia is the source of almost all world conflict. Some people choose to be engulfed by it while others are intelligent enough to reject that fear or hatred. At times some might argue that those feelings are appopriate for example when the white man arrived on the land of the native americans. Regardless, the fear wouldn't exist if it wasnt for hatred and the statement remains true if the two are switched.

  11. we have never nor will we ever (most likely) live in a society devoid of xenophobia. Even in the most minescule amounts xenophobia is constantly exhibited. Disliking Chinese street food is, by definition, xenophobia. Having been to south east Asia, and seeing what they eat on a daily basis, I can truly say that I have a strong dislike for real Asian food. Does that make me racist? No, does it make me a bad person? No. but does it make me a bad person? I don't believe so-so xenophobia functions in our society.

  13. Xenophobia is the fear or hatred of a foreign culture or person. This card activity represented this definition because the people with "Ignore me" or "Don't look at my face" experienced the racism or the ignorance of the other people towards them.

  14. My definition of xenophobia is an unreasonable fear or hatred of foreigners or strangers or of that which is foreign or strange. The card activity was a good representation of xenophobia because it changed how people acted towards one another. Instead of people reacting based on a person's actions and character, they only reacted to what the card on their forehead said. This is like xenophobia because, by definition, xenophobia is an irrational fear - i.e. is has no justification. My card said "interrupt me!" so, as I was talking I was constantly being talked over. There was no apparent reason for this and those talking over me did it only because of the card - nothing else. Overall, the activity was a good example of xenophobia and in science fiction, it can happen a lot to extraterrestrial life because they are so different and foreign.

  16. My definition of xenophobia is when u have grown up with someone that you know well and have to encounter someone different that you are not familer with and makes you feel uncomfortable. My card was agree then disagree. I hated it

  17. My definition of xenophobia and how the card activity made me think about my definition is that, xenophobia is like an anxiety thing. I was a observer because I have social anxiety and I didn't really want to interact with people. I noticed that certain people had a card like "Ignore me" and I am sure that didn't make them feel very good because they were trying to start a conversation and others were ignoring them. I think that it would make them feel invisible pretty much. Others could have been having a serious conversation and one person would be laughing and dancing or something along those lines. Its a way to see how people think and feel about certain situations. Xenophobia is the fear or dislike of something and in science fiction it would be the fear or dislike of aliens or space ships, UFOs, stuff like that.

  18. Xenophobia is a fear of that which is different or alien to you. And honestly I feel like the activity didn't really connect too much. Xenophobia is a fear of something different from you, not dancing whenever someone is talking to you, as my card said.

  19. Xenophobia is something your afraid of which is different or my like aliens the activity didnt make any scence to me because my card said to ignore me and i I don't think that is xenophoba and that doesn't sound like me

  20. The definition of xenophobia is the fear of the unknown, something alien. The word makes me think of the emotions worry and fear. The card activity made me think of a million different idea's of what could of been on the card. But after about thirty seconds I knew what was written on my card: Ignore Me.

  21. Absent

The definition of xenophobia is an intense or irrational dislike/fear of foreign and strange things. I was absent, but my card would be laugh at everything I say. I don't think this would be xenophobia, but the people who got cards like ignore me would experience it.

  22. Xenophobia is being afraid of change and different things. Id say with my card, which was "nod at me," it was very judgmental. I felt like people were looking me up and down to decide if I'm okay.

  23. I was absent for this activity, but from what I have gathered from reading previous posts is that xenophobia is the fear of something foreign or strange to you. I think the card activity can relate to this because when you are introduced to new cultures you may do something that they laugh at, or take offense to, or ignore, or a matter of other things. So I think the activity could have given everyone a taste of what it would feel like to go somewhere completely new.

  24. I missed class on Monday but I do know that Xenophobia is the fear of people from other countries/places. The emotions between xenophobia and science fiction is fear, and interest in the thing. In science fiction aliens are a common theme in science fiction and in the stories and movies that use the theme of fear.

  25. Xenophobia is being afraid of new and different people/things. In the Card activity my card said "Every time I spoke, you dance" and this card was really interesting and brought some laughs because when someone had the same card it was like awkward dance as each person spoke. The activity was very interesting and brought new knowledge to our eyes.

  26. My definition of xenophobia is the fear of anything different, or not liking or accepting something because it is not the same as usual. I wasn't here for the card activity although, from what I have heard I can imagine that having the cards on your head that would read things such as ¨ignore me¨ or saying not to look at my face would be what it is like to live with certain traits that people discriminate against. It is hard to relate to xenophobia if we are talking about things such as the supernatural, since it is fictional. Although if we are talking about it in terms of race or religion than many people have definitely had to deal with discrimination and it is very disappointing to see our society n a certain way where if we are not all the same then we act differently towards each other.

  27. Xenophobia to me is when a person has a fear of other people from foreign places. The card activity was very interesting because everyone was agreeing with my ideas which made for a difficult conversation. This activity was almost frustrating because I had to ignore people and talk in a way I wouldn’t usually do.

  28. Xenophobia is simply the fear of the new specifically new beings. The card activity reminded me of the effects xenophobia can have being confusion, fear, and hatred. I had the card"take everything I say as an insult" and due to this I was unable to really communicate with anyone fully.

  29. Xenophobia's definition as I have come to know it, is the fear of other cultures. The activity that we did where I had the card "Dance while I talk" was cool because as I got around the room, I met others who had the same card so it was just a dance off. That was pretty cool. But, it made me feel pretty nice to see that people were dancing around me and not afraid of more or ignoring me. They valued what I had to say, unlike some other people's cards. I feel like xenophobia is fearing what you don't really know about the other people and so you extrapolate the worst possible circumstances in your head with the information that you do know about them.

  30. I wasn't present for this activity, but after reading all the blogs I really enjoyed the idea of it! Each card had something that we wouldn't really do and maybe even made individuals step out of their comfort zones. This lead to my definition of Xenophobia: the fear of something extraordinary that forces us to step out of our comfort zone.
