Extrapolation And Future Schools In 2056?

Now that you have read many of your peers' Future School Extrapolation Projects, what are you thinking?  Holistically, what are your reasonable extrapolations regarding all of the extrapolations you have read?  What potential changes excite you the most?  What potential changes fill you with angst and apprehension?  Other thoughts?

  1. Holistically, I'm looking forward to the future of education if we still have building that we attend. Not really looking forward to homework, because studies shown in other countries show that homework negatively effects the way that our brains develop. I'm interested in seeing how education will take shape from something of an early age to college. Innovation that you have as a kid I feel gets destroyed once you attend school for several hours a day. I'm excited about great food though in our lunch rooms though, I think that's great that we can have some great food for free in the future.

  2. Changes that excite me the most are the possible changes to the types of classes students can take, and are required to take (namely, less required classes). I made my entire presentation about that so obviously i'm hopeful that in the future they'll go along those lines. One possible change that may not be the best perhaps could be the robotic teachers, which would be a problem for the teachers that wouldn't have a job anymore due to, y'know, being replaced with robots

  3. Many of the student future schools seemed to be based around an increase in technology, and collaboration between students. There were less stress inducing items such as homework, tests, teachers, etc., and more communication between teachers and peers. It speaks volumes about how students believe that the most valuable thing to learn is skills rather than facts, and that students are more inclined to help and learn with one another. The increase in technology can easily be assumed, the increase in community though, could be seen as surprising to many people.

  4. it looks like schools wont have any teachers anymore. The one thing I saw the most of is no more teachers. They were traded with robots mostly. And the class rooms were still sort of class rooms. THe still looked the same, but they were definetly more modern.

  5. After viewing many of my classmate's extrapolation projects, I realized that many of us believe technology will power the classrooms of the future. Many students predicted robotic teachers and much more advanced security systems for schools. The idea of computers and/or robots teaching classes is exciting to me because students will have access to tons of information very quickly. However, it also makes me a little nervous that students will start to lack social skills because they won't be required to develop personal relationships with their teachers and peers. The new security for schools also intrigued me a lot. I thought that scanning fingerprints and eyes to get access to the school was an interesting idea. Also, the idea to use technology to prevent academic dishonesty was really interesting. These new security measures sound really useful and impressive, however it makes me a little apprehensive to think that in the future they will be totally necessary, because that would mean there are a lot of people trying to do bad things. All in all, I think technology will have a huge impact on future classrooms, generally for the better.

  6. After reading most of the other projects I feel that everyone had close to the same thinking and ideas for what school will look like in 40 years. I think that there were a lot of the same ideas, for example, almost everyone I read had something to do with better technology and what the teachers, classrooms, and schools would look like. I think the changes that will be the best is the technology and what they will come up with to make school easier. Also the same thing I like old school things better so once technology takes over everything then everything will change.

  7. After walking around. Noticing that many people think of the world as robots taking over the school system and that teachers will be downgraded the most potential change that I like/agree with is that physical Ed with upgraded technology with shoes and the way the field stadium etc will look like because it keeps everything simple and organized.

The future certainly holds realitites that we do not yet have a complete grasp of, however, I do think that it is very reasonable to think that schooling may become financially independent from the government by generating revenue through other means. The new and exciting world of 3 dimensional and virtual reality type images is likely to be incoprerated into the classroom at some point. It is a bit scary to me to think that students would ever have implants in their heads as some of the other students implied in their extrapolations so hopefully this will not be the case.

  9. I think that there were a lot of cool ideas. but some of them were either to far ahead or not far enouph ahead on the timeline. I am really looking forward for my kids to have the best of the best teaching facility and techers.

  10. Historically I'm looking forward to the change in buildings and classrooms such as a pod but I was a little offset by the idea of reading our brainwaves and having technology dominate, we as humans technology should be used as a tool not a means of replacement

  12. I think it might be fun to go to school in the future. There will be more technology. One of the potential changes i like the most is less or no homework. I dont really like the robot teachers because you cannot relate to them at all and class would never be fun at all.

  13. I am hoping we have a more balanced education system, that works on being tailored to the student instead of a standard approach. Right now the education system is good but it definitely needs work, we understand that all students learn differently, but we still require them to learn the same material the same way. The most reasonable extrapolation to me would have to be more digital based learned because even Arapahoe as a school has made a huge leap in this idea and some teachers even do everything digitally. This means no more lost papers or excuses for doing work.

  14. As I read through my classmates extrapolations regarding the state of schools, I noticed a few similarities. I noticed that a lot of people believe that classes will more likely be tied closer to the career field they are interested in later on. I am most excited over the idea that many of the textbooks and homework becoming digital. This can create many benefits for the teacher's and the students. The thought that a robot could replace the teacher sounds very boring in my opinion. Part of what makes a good teacher is the fact that the teacher can keep the students on task and help the students see a concept in different ways. I don't think a robot can really think that abstractly.

  15. Overall every presentation I saw had at least one strong idea. One thing I disliked about the presentations was the fact that everything looks as though it is going to be through technology. As a student I think personal relationships take a huge part in student's lives. I enjoyed the fact that more windows, open spaces, as well as a schedule that fits the future were a common idea in each presentation.

  16. After reading my peers presentations of what future schools be in thinking about how much school will be different from what it is now. With the thought of robots replacing all the teachers and moving floors to get you to class, it seems like school will be a lot more cold seeing how there will be less human interaction Asides from the peers you have. Also I see school becoming more and more digital with everything, tests, books, homework, etc. although the future schools do sound more appealing to the careers of what people want, and that would for sure help kids start learning for what they want to do.

Looking at a few students presentations on Future schools in the year 2056, I notice that people have said that there will no longer be teachers but will be a robot or online or some time of automated thing. Some students have the same views on how schools will be in 2056. They say that everything will be online and that backpacks will be lighter. I think that with how technology is advancing every year with new computers and new cell phones that eventually and maybe in the year 2056 most of the things we see in text books will be all online. I think that there could possibly still be teachers but students will probably and most likely have the option to learn online rather than with a teacher. Sort of like being home schooled except the computer is teaching you and giving you homework that you have to do online and send it in and then you get a grade from it. I am sure that by the year 2056 everything with schools will change and that everything or at least most things will be online and there most likely won't or will still be teachers.

  18. After watching most of these slides, there are a few things that I really like and could really stand behind if these changes were made to the schooling system. The idea that you must be required to learn basic facts but other than that you can pursue classes and things that interest you is very exciting. Obviously you need to learn government because you need to know how your government works/run, and English because you need to be literate. However, 4 years of English to learn how to write 5 types of essays shouldn't be necessary if you want to become an engineer, and vice versa for those who wish to pursue an English major instead of mathematical one. I also like that the architecture for schools was portrayed as more open and natural. Schools need more natural light and outdoor space. Overall, the new ideas and layouts are fascinating and it seems like the new purpose for schools is new and different and I'm fascinated to see how that could impact the learning environment and how that could potentially work better than what we have now.

In the next 40 years im intrigued by what humans can design to further improve education for one I think that the elimination of busy work in schools is quite important, any homework we do should be valuable and not a huge waste of time. Another thing im looking forward to is more interactive classrooms through technology. Overall I think the future should help education progress in the future

  20. I think that school honestly hasn't changed much in the last 40 years, and we have no real reason to expect that it will. Sure, things have changed drastically on the surface, we have computers, cell phones, the Internet, all sorts of things to change the way we interact with our eduction. But the core of education has remained essentially identical thought the last century. We are still grouped solely by age, not separated by ability or interests, we still have common core that is useless and simply a waste of time for the majority of students. The real question we should ask isn't what will SCHOOLS be like in the future, but rather what will EDUCATION be like in the future. The schools aren't nearly as important as the education. Education has never truly worked in the interest of those who are the subject of education. I would like to see that changed

  21. As I was viewing the classes presentations I noticed a couple things that I found interesting. Most of everyone's presentations seemed to fucused mainly on the advancement of technology. Another thing that I realized was that nobody mentioned anything about the bad parts of schools in the future. I think this is because when you think of the future you think of improvement not disaster

  22. What I read seems like it would be really fun. Schools would have electronic supplies and robots as teachers. I think it would be a little boring not interacting with the teachers. One of them I saw was a online school where the students did all schooling from home. I thought that was a pretty cool idea because you could even do school when you are sick or you are on vacation. You could never be late to school because you are already at school. I think the social aspect would go down because you wouldn't have friends or peers to interact with.

  23. After going around and reading all of the presentations about what school has to offer in 40 years, I was very interested in the ideas everyone had. Everyone had at least one thing about how technology would impact our schools. I think that is the first things that we all assume looking into the future. I saw some good ideas about the physical structure of school and about how lunch could change. From the presentations I saw, I didn't see any negatives about school which I think is good because people are focusing on the positive aspects.

  24. Extrapolation really hit hard with me on the theme of politics and teachers with future schools. I think there will be very many technological advances, but there will be completely new ways of funding and how we learn. I think government would have the biggest influence in schooling yet, and machines may teach us our lessons. Without any heart or soul

  26. I was gone on this day but basing information that me and my partner did i think that our education for our kids will be much different when we will stop using paper and start using virtual holograms. I am also excited to see what the future of P.E. will look like.

  28. All of the presentations about what schools will be like were very interesting. One common extrapolation between the presentations was that the entire school would be based around computers. All paper wouldn't exist, and writing would be unnecessary. I believe that writing should still be taught no matter how advanced technology gets. It is the first form of communication, and is helpful in art and anything that has to do with drawing. Another common extrapolation found in the presentations was teachers being either pre recorded or robotic. Many think that this would cause less jobs, but I believe that it would just cause jobs to shift from one field to the other. I think that these things will happen slowly and gradually, so everyone will be used to it by the time the technology becomes widespread.

I believe that all of the presentations had different and similar opinions about the future schools and one that really stuck out is someone sad that the whole school would be based around computers. Paper and pencil would be known as useless in the future because of all the technology were gonna have.

  30. There seems to be many improvements in technology. I like the concept of not actually going to a physical school but doing it all on the computer. I hope many of these improvements actually come to be real. I like the idea of getting rid of paper.
