Future Schools In 2056?

Now that you have read many of your peers' Future School Extrapolation Projects, what are you thinking?  Holistically, what are your reasonable extrapolations regarding all of the extrapolations you have read?  What potential changes excite you the most?  What potential changes fill you with angst and apprehension?  Other thoughts?

  1. I saw that there were a lot of advances in technology for student uses, and there were even some for security/severance of schools. It was also mentioned that teachers would be out of jobs and replaced with pre-recorded lessons and robots. There was also some ideas about students going hungry; students growing their own foods and pills being created that would quench thirst and stop hunger.

  2. Technology plays a large part of our lives today, its influence can only draw us further from the era of paper and pencil. The most change that will be most welcomed is the customized student learning, no more standardized anything. Downloading information directly into the students, brain, onto their chips seems dangerous. The next World War could be two hackers controlling different parts of the population. We would become the emotionless forms we mock. The future looks bright, lets just hope that its not blindingly so.

  3. After viewing a number of other students "Future Schools" presentations, my main concern is that, in the near future, technology will take over almost every aspect of school. Changes in students personal educational freedom excite me, but the idea of sacrificing a teacher for an AI just to gain control of my own education is a sacrifice I am not sure I would be willing to take. I believe that having a human teacher is the single most important thing about school and education.

  4. I am thinking that most of the technology that were in the presentations could in fact come true in the near future. The reasonable extrapolations I thought would exist in 2056 was the holograms used as projectors, and no more textbooks. The one that excite the most is the technology used in and outside the classroom. I didn't really like the though of having no sports in high school. It just didn't really feel like that would happen.

  5. Now that I have read my peers' Future School projects, I feel like there is a sense of inevitability in the air. It seems inevitable that technology will start to become more and more prominent until the world is dependent on it. One potential change that excited me was the idea of having a personalized classroom schedule that helps you through your classes. One that filled me with apprehension, though, is the thought of AI. AI is never shown to end well, and if we suddenly had rogue AI in the world, then that's just one more thing to worry about. Major changes will happen throughout the school and in classrooms.

  6. I was interested to see that most of the projects followed the same general outline, went the same direction it seems society is headed. Less paper and pencil, less teachers and administration, and more technology. I'd like to think that society in 40 years would understand the value of a human teacher enough not to remove it, but that may completely change with AI. I was a little worried looking at a common theme in a few projects in which everyone determined their profession as soon as they began school, and all jobs paid the same and had the same hours. This is communism, and it doesn't work.

  7. I feel like a lot of the things that we predicted will eventually come true. Such as more technology and less paper, even in the time that I have been in school I have seen paper almost vanish in the classroom. I am interested too see how far school systems will go with robotics and see if teachers will be replaced.

  8. All the presentations were very interesting and informative. I believe the personalized schedule that many people suggested was very reasonable, and "squared" with my beliefs as well. I wish that students could just take the classes they believe will benefit them the most. I didn't really agree with one presentation in which they said students must wear uniforms to prevent individuality. I believe in the future, being unique and different will be more valued than conformity. I was surprised a lot of people had similar ideas, and had very intelligent ideas. I hope our generation and the next to come can make these ideas a reality.

  9. When the class walked around the room, I saw a lot of presentations that caught my eye. I liked seeing every ones different views and thoughts on what school would be like in 50 years. I think people had similar ideas, which means we could probably have that idea in theses coming years, like artificial intelligence. Many teachers were gone, or just assistance, but technology taught, and ran schools. Not a lot of classes like P.E. were apart of peoples school, which is scary because if technology is popular and almost needed to survive, how is everyone's health in those environments. Are they all over weight? Overall, I thought ideas on A.I. classrooms, and basically the removing of most original schooling was pretty interesting, as even now, computers are slowly taking over. I could easily see this happen.

  11. More than anything else, I noticed that most of the technology is just heavily evolved versions of the new technology we have today. There was nothing too incredibly far-fetched when we look at the technology our companies are developing at this point in time. This mostly convinced me that the basis of the future is yesterday and how we fix today. What we develop becomes the stepping stones to achieving the “impossible” in the 40 years onwards.

  12. In the future things like teachers, physical supplies, and even the schools themselves will no longer be needed. Several of my classmates talked about the idea of losing individuality and creating more conformed environments, while others were thinking that the opposite would happen, more uniqueness and personalized schedules for the students. I think the idea of technology advancing in the future is something that is collectively agreed on and can't be denied. So why not apply it to schools and learning environments in the future. I think all of these ideas are plausible for the future. Many authors already have explored the idea of more conformed societies in the future, which although I can see happening, I hope won't become reality. The idea of advanced technology does excite me. I'm curious to see what people come up with in the future and how helpful it all becomes. There will be change in the future no matter what happens, it's just a matter of whether it is positive or negative.

  13. I think that some of the predictions that my classmates made were reasonable and some were a bit too far fetched. When I was walking around the classroom, I noticed that many, including myself, focused on the fact that teachers will soon be decreased in number and replaced with computers and holograms. I think this prediction is very reasonable and is on the horizon. Even though schools now are working to make classes more relevant to adult life, by 2056, I think there will be personalized schedules for students. This will make them not only more engaged but also better at their job when they're older. Doctors do not need to know how to diagram a sentence. Over all, I think school in 40 years will be very different and, in many ways, changed for the better.

  14. A common theme that I saw today, that very much excites me, is the concepts behind advanced security in schools. In specific, one idea I saw was that of facial scanning for student/faculty as they enter the building. This is very reasonable tech, and also highly needed in schools, as present day school security is in considerable need of work. Another idea I saw frequently was that of schools removing testing and homework all-together. This is realistically unreasonable, as they are the framework of most school systems, and are tried and true methods of education.

  15. I think that a lot of ideas for this project came from the science fiction genre such as the holograms and AI teaching systems. A change that fills me with angst is that quite a few people said that there would be fewer teachers, and that school would be more focused on self educating. I believe that schools in the future will have many of the ideas, but it may take longer than 40 years for some of the theories.

  16. When looking at other projects about high schools in 40 years, I noticed that many people said everything would be much more technology rounded. For example, there will be easier and faster access to classes, books and paper will be completely forgotten in a world of everything being computerized, etc. School would have a more personalized approach towards the students and what they want to do in life. There were projects that described how much more focus will be directed toward math and science rather than English and history because the world is becoming more electronic. There were many possible and somewhat frightening extrapolations described, and it scares me that some of these things can actually become the norm in the future.

  17. In 40 years I think that the predictions made by my peers were extremely plausible. Hologram technology and advanced teaching methods seem like things that could arise within the next decade at our rate of invention. Some Ideas were a little outlandish, like a school trading system, and Music being a language are things that don't seem to make sense. If I had to choose one thing that I can't wait for that I want to implement now would be Photovoltaic Glass technology, because it reminds me a lot of Tony Stark, and come on who does't like Tony Stark?

  18. I think it was interesting how some people thought school would get better, stay social, and be more comfortable while other thought that school would become more reclusive. I also noticed how some people took a very technological and inhuman approach with computer AIs taking the jobs of teachers while some people also felt that through technology teachers would be able to teach better, would get a pay raise and have an easier job through the use of technology.

  19. After reading through the work of some of my peers, I think the most realistic changes are the efforts that move to correct problems that we currently deal with. The ideas that became the most occurring included things like the removal of standardization whether that be in how the material is taught, or how knowledge of the material is tested. I agree with some of these depictions, but mostly I see the same style of education taking place. Between our parents generation and ours, a lot of advancements have entered the world and our schools, but school still looks the same when speaking through the infrastructure and how a school district educates. The material may vary, but the class will do the same things they do now, educate some & imprison others.

  20. What I was thinking while going around the classroom, I noticed that there was a lot of technology advancements. It was mainly that teachers wouldn't really be there, it would be more like a hologram and no more text books. There was one point on someones slide show that I didn't agree with and it was that we were going to have to wear uniforms to suppress individuality and I don't agree with that because I think we have made more of an effort to express ourselves through clothing and adults do it too. So I don't really understand how that is going to go in the opposite direction. I mean if that were going to happen, why not match with the prison inmates in orange? What excites me the most about the future is that all the advancements in the technology and how we think that it will make the world cleaner. What fills me with angst the most is no teachers in schools and that we are going to use all the natural resources like water and then so-say science is going to make a synthetic type of water that is pretty close to real water. That idea kind of scares me because I feel like it is a little true. My final thoughts on future schools is that it is going to be a lot of artificial intelligence and I feel like that is a great advancement but I rather think that intelligence is better.

  21. In almost everyone's depiction of Schools in 2056, you either had extreme conformity, or everyone's day was personalized and distinctive. Accommodation to depleting resources ,and finding a cleaner way of energizing was very typical and commonplace in the power-points. Technology, obviously, was the MOST talked about subject. I believe this is because it's already advancing rapidly today. This just makes sense.

  22. Now that I have reviewed some of my peers projects on what schools will look like in 2056, I have a better idea on what really will happen. Through out my years of schooling I have seen many technological advances in all aspects. That seemed to be a common theme in this project, because no one said that we were going to go back to all paper projects and rarely using computers. I am very excited to see where technology takes us and what advances we come upon.

  23. In the year 2056 based on my peers slideshows. It seems that life will get more disconnected from humans. No more teachers but more online based learning. No more school in general, a more homeschool environment. Some people even said that we will come to school but only have holograms. All of this feels as if we believe that schools in the future will not be teacher related. I also noticed that some slides really wanted to take away notes with computers. Which I believe will happen because it will get rid of the mess that is my backpack with a easier solution. I even thick that there will be 2 tablets one for reading and the other to type while reading. The most exciting to me would probably be irrelevant by the time I'm in 2056, I’d probably be more excited by the new tech advances. What makes me fear is new AI. AI is coming to the point where robots can actually learn and learn very quickly. Things like Watson, a AI that almost smarter than humans but sometimes with associate the wrong things with others like it though browsers were food items because cookies were both in kitchens and browsers. But that's in this day and age, they have 40 years to fix that. With AI being smarter, sure I could worry about it being smarter than humans but I don’t think that will be a problem because so many people are now putting fail safes into robots. But what I fear is the lost of jobs like even now many low wage jobs are being replaced by touch screens and good AI. With smarter AI Higher jobs will taken. Here's good video that goes along with this idea.

  24. Most of the slides I saw that were created by my classmates all were related to technology. I saw how a lot of people were talking about how solar panels are going to be used for energy and I can agree with that. I didn't agree with the teachers disappearing because although holograms might exist, I think teachers will still be there because I think many people wouldn't like hologram teachers. But after all this advancement in technology I always ask myself, what's next?

  25. It was cool to see what others thought school would look like in 40 years. All of the presentation included some type of advanced technology, which is to be expected. The most common ones were projected teachers meaning no actual teachers, and also texhinology to take attendance which was a really cool idea. I also saw a couple presentations that showed how our textbooks would be 100 percent electronic and also advanced projectors and computers. All in all, it was really cool to see what others thought school would look like in 40 years

  26. After reading my fellow classmates’ Future Schools Of 2056, I became more conscious of the school environment and why we have to take certain classes. For example, one presentation I read was talking about the downside to more home schools in the future. The student talked about how, instead of doing work, a student could just sit around watching T.V., playing video games, computer games, etc. This fills me with angst because even the most responsible student can become a slacker. The student also talked about how the loss of physical exercise could cause students to be overweight and extremely unhealthy. There would also be a loss of education and by putting our children in home schools we would, in a way, be denying our children’s education.

  27. After reading my pears presentations on what schools would like in 2056. I realized that many of us do agree that even with the amount of new technology being made each day. New and inspirational ideas are still to come. Not only through the areas with great advancement needed but as well in our day to day studies/use of the tech. Not only did most agree technology would change but the teacher as well. Holograms! Something seen in a star wars movie, soon to be? I do agree that the future holds new tech but I'm not so sure the "in the flesh" teacher will ever change.

  28. The most realistic extrapolations about future schools in 2056 is the holograms because technology is advancing at alarming rates every year. I am also most excited about holograms because I've always seen them in movies and it would be cool to see them in classrooms. My least favorite extrapolation was the "no sports in public schools" because I play sports and a lot of public schools have already cut funding to their sports programs. I would not be excited about the "healthier school lunches" extrapolation.
