    1. Xenophobia is the fear of other beings other than humans. The card activity made me interrupt the the person made me think of the other type of people who are rude and interrupt people at mid sentence.Coincidentally, I had the same card as the person I was with.

  2. My definition of xenophobia is the fear or hatred of people or things that you are unfamiliar with. The card activity made me think about how people may treat you differently for reasons you may not be able to see. My card said, "Every time I speak, start dancing." Xenophobia can be connected with isolation, anger, prejudice, and loneliness..

  3. Xenophobia is where you are afraid of others that are unlike yourself. I got kinda aggravated at some of the people because I wasn't understanding what they were trying to do. miscommunication is a big part of xenophobia.

  4. Xenophobia is the fear of people who have different ideas, views, or cultures than you. The card activity was interesting because it made people talk to others differently only based on what their card said. My card was ask my opinion and I did not have any trouble with this one because all that happened was people questioned me on my opinion of certain topics, nothing strange like dancing whenever someone speaks or ignoring them. I can relate fear of course to xenophobia as well as preconception and prejudice because no one even knows the other person and judges them before they have a chance to understand them.

  5. To me xenophobia is the fear, hatred, or loathing of something that is not popular or considered a pillar of society at a given time period. My card was "Take Everything I Say As A Personal Insult!" which is often the way people take things when communicating with someone they hold in contempt. As the subject of xenophobia, I could imagine a feeling of being constantly demonized and ostracized based off of trivial things such as personal prejudice.

  6. My definition of xenophobia a fear or dislike of something that you don't know or is foreign. In this activity I was the "Repeat I sad and start with I hear what your saying".This activity showed me how annoying it is if everyone just says the same thing and repeats exactly what you are saying you don't get anything out of the conversation. As well it feels weird how people would treat you weird for some reason that you don't even know you are different.

  7. An intense fear or dislike of foreign beings. I think the card activity helps us see how people may treat strangers from other lands if they have xenophobia. Xenophobia probably associates with the feeling of hatred, but on the opposite side of the person who gets treated like that, they probably feel shame, sadness, anger or maybe even hatred. My card said "Don't Look at my Face!" and so of course people avoided looking at my face; I'm sure some people probably try avoiding looking at faces of foreigners because they don't like their skin, or how their eyes look, or other such characteristics. I think this really shows us to not treat others like that because if it happens to you it doesn't feel too great.

  8. Xenophobia is the fear of other creatures that are different then yourself. My card was "Don't look at my face" and this card was very easy to figure out because it is just good manners to look at someones face when they are talking to you. This activity was very interesting to be a part of.

  9. Xenophobia is the fear or hated of something or someone that is strange or different. My card in the card activity was "Interrupt Me!" and to have people continuously interrupting me was hurtful because I felt that people weren't listening to my opinions or didn't think they were valid. The emotions I can assign to xenophobia are fear, hatred, and misunderstanding.

  10. Xenophobia is the dislike or fear of foreign people with different social ideals, different cultures, different appearances, etc.. The card activity showed that people will treat other people differently based off their attitude or appearance. Also that the crowd will tend to follow the bandwagon to feel more self confident and to fit in. There is also the opposite of xenophobia where people look up to certain other people based off their ideals. The card activity showed some people were ignored or talked to strangely where others were getting all the attention and looked up to. My card said, "Accept my ideas!" People all agreed with me so I was one of the people that was looked up to. However some peoples cards said, "Don't look at my face!" or, "Ignore me!" Those were the people that others were xenophobic towards in this activity and even though they treated the good card people nicely they still didn't receive the respect they deserve.

  11. Xenophobia is the fear of something or someone that is foreign or different from you. The card active really made you feel left out and pushed away from other people. My card was don't look at my face, it was awkward trying to talk to people when they wouldn't look at you. I feel like this activity was designed to make you see through the eyes of someone who others are xenophobic of. In science fiction xenophobia is a common theme because we humans are xenophobic towards each other so we must really not like being that aren't even human.

  12. Xenophobia is the intense fear or dislike of people and ideas from different countries or areas in space. The card activity was a simple way for us, the students, to experience this in a non-harmful sort of way, and I think it was a great way to exemplify it. My card said, “Tap your foot while I am speaking”, or something along those lines. As you can clearly see there was nothing harmful about my card, but in reality, that is not the case. Looking back at history now that I have done this activity with the cards, I can imagine everyone with an imaginary card on them, telling people around one another how to act around each other, only with more intense and derogatory actions. Xenophobia could easily relate to the emotions of loneliness, sorrow, anger, as well as fear and hatred (obviously), and those are just from the thoughts off of the top of my head.

  13. Xenophobia is the fear of unfamiliar, or different things from what you are used to. Xenophobia is prejudice against things that are unknown to you. My card said "Nod at Me". This was xenophobia because people were treating me a certain way because of something that I could not see or understand. Xenophobia can be associated with anger, sadness, and prejudice.

  14. My definition of xenophobia is the fear or disliking of someone or something that is different. The card activity made me think about how there are things that you can't change and everybody has something different about them. Some emotions that can connect to the word xenophobia are sadness and anger. My card said “Laugh at what I say”.

  15. My definition of xenophobia is a strange reaction to a certain group or characteristic, because how they look or what clothes they have on or anything of the sort. In the card activity I had 'Laugh at what I say!" and it felt kind of weird at first when I said I like to go to Shwarma for lunch and everyone laughed.

  16. My definition of xenophobia is prejudice and fear of foreigners or strangers. My card said, , “Agree w/ me then disagree w/ me in the same sentence,” and it helped me come to this conclusion. I think that intimidation is a key factor in xenophobia. Like bullies, people treat others harshly when they are intimidated by them. For example, in airports people tend to have a prejudice towards middle eastern people because of the events that transpired on 9/11. Even though this catastrophe happened over a decade ago it still has effects on us today. Xenophobia can also be related to change. I think a good example of this was after slavery was ended. People North and South began to make everything separate because they were afraid what it would be like if they were together. My definition of xenophobia is racism or fear towards foreigners or strangers.

  17. Xenophobia is to reject or have fear for someone who isn't normal, or is different from others. Someone who makes others uncomfortable. After doing the card activity in class, i got a good idea at what it may fell like to make someone uncomfortable, and be uncomfortable. My card was "Agree with me me, then disagree with me in the same sentence". This influenced my definition of xenophobia because of the way people reacted to my card. They made it uncomfortable. Xenophobia in science fiction could be someone or something that makes a society fearful or uncomfortable with it.

  18. Xenophobia is the fear or dislike of different things, places, or people. The card activity shows how when someone has a label, they get treated as if they are only that label. People were supposed to disagree with me, and when they did, it did feel like I was being treated differently. When you see that label you act differently as if that's the only way that person can be treated. Fear and irrational hatred are the emotions that come with xenophobia. You are scared of the people and will do things that are not thought through. Xenophobia shows up in science fiction when people from earth encounter others either from a different way of life or a different planet. These people will often act with fear.

  19. Xenophobia is defined as extreme fear or dislike of people that are foreign or strange to one’s own culture. Examples of xenophobia can sadly be seen in work environments, schools, communities, and especially in science fiction. After completing the card activity, I fully understood how xenophobia relates to everyday life and how people treat other people. My card said "Nod at me," so when I walked around to talk to people, it was pretty easy to figure out what it was. For some other people, it must've been a lot harder. For example, a few cards said "interrupt me." When the people were trying to speak, they never got a word in because everyone else cut them short in the middle of their sentence. This shows how xenophobia can be a harsh concept for some people. The fact that it is a reality is hard for us to come to terms with. Xenophobia can make the people being judged feel scared, lonely, or unwanted. Everyone deserves to be loved.

  20. What I think that xenophobia means is to have a dislike towards someone from a different race or country. We seek protect a comfort in things that are similar. The card activity that we did in class gave me a better understand of xenophobia. I made me feel a little different from other people and it make people acted unusual towards me. My card was that every time I said something, the other person had to dance.

  21. Xenophobia is the fear or dislike of something foreign. In the activity, I had "Accept my ideas", and the card activity made my definition a little off, but mostly correct. I kind of felt pity when doing this, because everyone was agreeing with what I had to say.

  22. Xenophobia is the fear of anything out of one’s comfort zone. The card that I received read,” Every time I speak, start dancing.” I wish I had this inscribed on my forehead for real. Some people were uncomfortable doing the task and said they wouldn’t do it. This was xenophobia. I was uncomfortable with the cards that said,” Don’t look at my face!” because the normal thing to do when conversing is keeping eye contact. That was my personal example of xenophobia.

  23. Xenophobia is the fear of foreign objects. My card was laugh at everything I say. This makes me look at Xenophobia differently because it can be vary simple things that make Xenophobia. Fear is one big emotion another emotion is confusion because people don't know what to think when something new and unexpected.

  24. Xenophobia- the hatred or fear of a stranger or foreign object or idea. The card activity was a great example to show this because some people had cards that require us to either ignore, interrupt, etc, and that's a great example because we have to be almost inappropriate to others because we didn't want to accept their ideas. For me, it was also hard to walk up to some random person i didn't know and act like such in front of them. This for me was just kinda creepy because everyone just nodded at me and everyone’s head would bob up and down (was funny).

  26. Xenophobia in my terms is the unknowing prejudice of another race in which assumption is used heavily. I was not present the day we did the card activity but from looking through these comments I can see how society has used a lot of these cards in daily life. One example would be Luke McDaniels where his card told people to not look at him. I feel as if this is played out in society on a regular basis by the media, news and government. We are force-fed this information on why we should judge certain people by their looks so that they can get ratings. We are trapped in the circle of judgement even if we like it or not.
