Xenophobia And Alien Planets?

As you viewed the Alien Planet Projects created by your peers, what did you notice?  How do these projects help us delve into the concept of xenophobia?  Please comment, share, argue, and critique the trends or ideas that you noticed.  Please complete this blog response during class today.

  1. I think that the alien projects go into xenophobia in the t away that we are comfortable with and also believe. human creatures would ether be humanistic or very monstrous and hard to imagine it in real life. I think it may help us form xenophobia in the way that we will share what we are comfortable with or express what we think to be monstrous and hard to imagine in the real world we live in.

  2. Some trends in this was alien life usually separate from humanity. When humanity was involved both races did not live as equals or harmoniously. This represents xenophobia through the inability of species to survive together. Xenophobia was also demonstrated in one presentation by class structure that was clearly defined in a society.

  3. One of the things that I noticed about the planet projects is the fact that a lot of them have no concept of war. I thought it was very interesting that so many of the people created were peaceful and respecting to their world around them. And the sheer creativity behind the drawings and writing was awesome. With these peaceful people came a lack of xenophobia. it was interesting to read that people really think that the fear of unknown things would be less on other planets than it is on our. I enjoyed getting to create my project and it is clear that many others did too because all of the projects were creative and had a lot of awesome content.

  4. in looking through all the alien planet projects i noticed that most of the aliens and humans got along. this would show me that our class as a whole isnt afraud of the unknown. or we dont have xenophobia. i also noticed most of the planets were much more similar to earth than i would have expected.

  5. Many of the planets were foreign in climate and landscape as well as exotic species of inhabitants and plants. One planet, Ignis, was basically a core surrounded by a molten crust. Another planet was essentially a worldwide rain forest. I think these projects helped us learn about xenophobia by exposing our imaginations and ideas about what may exist out in space that has not yet been discovered by humanity.

  6. While viewing all the different types of alien planets, I noticed that more times then not each planet had a distinct feature not shared by the rest. Although many planets did seem to have many similar traits there was always that one factor that stood out from the rest. This ties in with the concept of Xenophobia because the fear or lack of knowing is relevant in each planet. One might be hesitant to become open minded to such a different trait or characteristic for another planet, just as the creatures on each planet varied as well. comparing the life forms of each planet to one another.

  7. These projects help us delve into Xenophobia by seeing how different things can be. Every project had different lifeforms and different planet structures, all very strange compared to our own. If we met any of the beings or went to any of the planets in the projects, we would be afraid and fear that it was different from us. This is exactly what Xenophobia is. The scariest thing is that a lot of human like beings from the projects today were much like humans in appearance, but more advanced in technology and intellect. That would directly make them superior to us, and it is scary to think of a place where all humans are inferior in meaning.

  8. I noticed two types of presentation ideas. One was that there would be these different looking aliens with scary looking creatures that lived on a planet with a so much technology and power. Then there was the other type where the aliens living on that planet resemble humans. They lived on a place similar to earth, but the planet had all these other abilities with sustaining life on that planet. I can see the xenophobia in the way that people portrayed the aliens and the creatures on that planet.

  9. These projects help us delve into the concept of xenophobia because they reveal assumptions that we might make about alien life. I noticed some good examples of history. I didn't see many drawings.

  10. While viewing the alien planet projects made in the class, I noticed that there were a few of them that were actually very similar to earth. Yes, there were minor differences in what the main races looked like or how the plants worked, however in many societies that were created the social aspect became similar to earths, except for on a larger scale. For example, in one planet there was a war, and someone was exiled. However, rather than exiled out of the country or city, they were exiled to that planets moon. Essentially, it proved to be similar to some history on earth, but on a larger scale. This would contribute to the idea of xenophobia in showing generally, that in terms of extraterrestrial creatures, it may be unnecessary. Most likely, if there are to be any other creatures out there, they would be very similar to us.

  11. When looking at my class mates alien planets I notice that the ones I read was they didn't want any form of violence on their planets. Another thing I notice was that their planet was orbiting red dwarfs. The alien planet project drove the concept of xenophobia when your not sure weather if you went to their planet would you end up dead?

  12. Looking around, I saw that to some degree many of the planets had the same type of things on them besides the life, it was very similar to a normal earth with days and such which made me think is all planets out there controlled by how long as day or year is about the same as earth or are there different orbits. It also made me think are they somewhat staying around everyone's comfort zone. Do people like how a day, month, and year is seperated? Is there some sort of xenophobia of having a too short or too long of a day? What causes all of these projects to somewhat seem similar? The Projects help us develop an idea of how small we really are and what the gigantic universe out there holds so much as a fiction related topic and a connection to xenophobia because of the reason how the universe is out there.

  13. I noticed that allot of the planets had almost the same physical features that Earth has, unlike ours which is much larger in comparison and much larger in certain areas of info. they help us by allowing us to see others imagination and creativity towards the alien planets. I feel that our project is way different than our peers projects showing that we may have gone overboard with our imagination.

  14. This project helps us understand xenophobia better by seeing what strange concepts people can come up with. A common theme i saw was the idea of a planet having multiple moons, this is strange because we have never experienced something like that waking up to moons in the sky or even at night multiple moons.

  15. While walking around, I noticed that people seemed to like focusing on the animals and creatures more than anything else. I think that it is difficult for us to imagine creatures that aren't at all similar to creatures on our planet. This makes it less possible for xenophobia to occur because of the fact that the creature looks similar to ours. Another factor is how people made their ideal planet, with no war, disease or any other horrible things on earth.

  16. I noticed that quite a few of the presentations had animals and creatures much like those on earth, such as wolves, flowers, and dogs. These projects help us see xenophobia by making us think of how we would treat these creatures if we saw them.

  17. This project helps us understand xenophobia better by seeing what strange concepts people can come up with. A theme i saw a lot was having a lot of different creatures and this was weird because even though we have lots of creatures on earth, these creatures that classmates were showing were scary.

  18. Even though I was not there for the day we viewed the project reading the comments and looking at the one I did it shows how exterm we can take are xenophiba and what we think could be out there in space.

  19. I didn't get to see all of the projects because I wasn't here but I'm assuming most of them had things that we currently have on Earth such as animals, pets, food and other things we see everyday. Xenophobia is also something we have in everyday life. We see people fear people and the unknown everyday.

  20. Looking at all of the projects I noticed that they mostly had to do with helping people with the things that we don't like doing such as taking out the trash or doing chores. Our high school minds don't want to do the hard things in life and these futuristic inventions might come to life due our laziness.
