Extrapolation And Future Schools In 2055?

Now that you have read many of your peers' Future School Extrapolation Projects, what are you thinking? Holistically, what are your reasonable extrapolations regarding all of the extrapolations you have read? What potential changes excite you the most? What potential changes fill you with angst and apprehension? Other thoughts?

  1. The technology to come is fascinating. I'm waiting for the day when everything becomes integrated so that carrying one device will be just as beneficial as many. My one concern is that as a race people will become lazy and dependent on these machines to the point that we can't do anything without them.

  2. Reading the Future School Projects I saw a trend in holographic teachers, comfortable chairs, glass walls, and IPad like desks. I'm not sure what the future actually holds, whether it be a life of post-apocalyptic fall out or a world that's bettered itself. But I'm really hoping for a sustainable society where the world is not crumbling. That's what I'm looking forward to. I'm very nervous for a society post war but it's also a huge possibility.

  3. The main focus of future schools, seems to be related to an advance in technology and efficiency. Many of the ideas were related to giving every student a computer or tablet, even hooking up a computer to their brain. Many also liked the concept of having no teachers, or robot teachers, because human teachers can make mistakes and there would be no need for them. Another popular theme was the implementation of armed robot security to protect students and prevent harmful events.

  4. What I saw the most had to do with learning. Learning in big groups of people, either taught by a teacher, a projection of a teacher, or a robot. I think that a class like that would be exciting because it prepares kids for college, but it is also hard to get personal help. Another thing I saw was the computerized or ipad desk that all students would have, because no one would have pencils.

  5. The presentations about school in the future portray a society that is very technologically dependent. Many presentations have robots as teachers or workers in the school. They also have computers for desks and technology is constantly used as a resource. Many of these presentations also describe Utopian societies that have class taking place in beautiful settings whether outside or in a re imagined classroom. These presentations display progress stating that society and school can only learn from its mistakes and improve constantly.

  6. After reading several of the awesome projects today, I noticed that almost all of them say that teachers will either no longer be physically present in the classroom, or they won't be needed at all! This is very interesting to me. The thing that scared me the most was the fact that almost everyone agreed that paper and writing skills with pencil and paper would no longer be needed. That it would all be computerized. As someone who loves reading and writing, this scares me a lot because I believe that those are skills that every student should have and I hate to think that technology could replace all of it.

  7. It seems to me that the world in the future is looked at as by being locked down by robots coming to do human things. I have high expectations of some sort of holographic or different way of education being taught. The technology part excites me the most because technology has come so far already but it still has much more to come. In my opinion no apprehension or angst fills up in me. I like how the class some what had the same ideas of what the possible some what near future could look like.

  8. What i saw as the trend for our classes schools of 2025 was that there is much more of an emphisas on technology ruling as oposed to human interaction. it also seems to me that teachers are being phased out by robots and other manners of new wave technology. kids seem to be using there computers more and more while being in a classroom less and less.

  9. In a generalizing statement, I would say that all of the ideas about school in 2055 depend on the idea that we will be incredibly futuristic compared to modern day, and that it is affordable and plausible to use this advanced technology inside of schools. We are all assuming that it would be easy to integrate this hypothetical technology into things such as sports, health, and education when in reality we have no clue if this new technology is going to be affordable, or even easy to use. However, it is still good and interesting to hypothesize about what is to come.

  10. After seeing the various concepts that people had for schools in forty years, while there were not tremendous amounts of overlap, there were many commonalities amongst the different groups. From ideas of schools where teachers were replaced by robots, to tighter security measures, to students having more comfortable seating options, the spectrum of ideas is varying.
While I think those ideas are all fantastic, I do not believe that we are thinking far enough into the future. In the year 2055, the students would not be using the same technologies as we are. Unfortunately, it is hard to exactly say what the future of technology holds, and therefore difficult to predict.

  11. In many of these projects I found all the unique and different futuristic technology very interesting, the fact that so many different groups had such similar and even the exact same types of futuristic technology shows how many people have a similar idea of what a future school and future technology may look like. Also, I found it interesting how some groups predicted a completely different style of school than all the rest, due to a "nuclear fallout" which in my opinion is a very real possibility to what schools may be like in the future.

  12. Looking at other's project i an see a trend. I realize that most people in our generation have the same thoughts and expectations on how the future will be. Reasonable extrapolations would be a difference in what is being taught, how it’s being taught, and by who. A lot of focus was about technology. It would be most exciting to experience schools in the sky or water and also or the advanced technology. New inventions being created to help people learn better and easier will be an exciting time for upcoming students. Changes that makes me feel anxiety would be robotic teachers and higher controlled learning systems. The future is exciting but dangerous and although it is good to advance, we must also remember our values.

  13. A lot of the presentations that I looked at didn't really extrapolate very much -- they more just took things that are used by some people today, and said that in 50 years they would be used by everyone, such as iPads and things of the sort. I think that this is a likely possibility in less than 10 years. Some of the presentations did present some interesting ideas though, like pens and journals that write based off of our thoughts. This would be fancy. Though pens would imply that we are still using paper. Another one of the presentations that I saw considered not only what school will be like, but also what the world will be like outside of school, and based some of their extrapolations off of that, such as high security because of many wars going on. This is probably the most frightening extrapolation that I saw.

  14. I think one of the things i'm not looking forward to in the future is the control, like someone had mentioned a neurological transmitter that holds a lot of the schools information, but i'm sure it could double as possible tracking device and stop you from doing something that big brother doesn't want you to do. It could be like the black boxes in newer cars where the car can be shut down at anytime or controlled from the original creator or at the access point. Anything that has controlling abilities also has interest of hackers.

  15. Different class sizes and personal electronics being used for school sound reasonable. More choice in classes and lunch sound nice. Removing teachers from the class room seems concerning.

  16. To my surprise all the projects I looked at were Tech based classes, without Human teachers. I feel that this would be good because humans can make mistakes about what they teach. Also most of the School were in a Utopian Society where things they used were very advanced. while someone of them where based in Fallout style PLaces.

  17. I think that the ideas were great and I loved how close these ideas really are the future. These ideas seem possible, like they are already built, it will just take time to get them in schools. The only think I see troubles with are the hologram teachers in the classrooms because if there isn't really an adult there, than there won't be any enforcement in the room in case of a fire or an emergency. I am also afraid of the future in that there wont be as much social interaction.

  18. When looking at the 3 presentations that I got to see I noticed that there were quite a few hints of a dystopian universe, which seems popular in the culture of today (books, movies, ect.) I personally don't know if our world will come to that (at least in the time frame that people think.) Additionally I also noticed that a lot of people mentioned that teachers would be replaced by personal learning machines and that students would have I.D. cards to enter the building and record attendance in each class. I think that the I.D. cards would be a good idea but removing the teachers isn't (in my experience at an online school which didn't have teachers unless absolutely necessary.)

  19. Reading the Future School Projects I saw a similarly in replacement of teachers, no backpacks, and tablets that does everything. I also like the idea of the I.D. card that would allow you enter buildings. Although it's our imagination I would like to see what the future really holds for us.

  20. Seeing the other Future Schools projects I saw a lot of exciting things. These included tablets that are used for everything, security robots, and more. I think most of the ideas I saw are possible and able to happen at some point. A large amount of these would change schools forever. I did however still like my creations the best, as it would create conditions that surpass what we have in the NFL now for sports with even cheaper cost. I also found the idea of online teachers very interesting. I think it would overall be good, but I am very skeptical of it because having a teacher that you can connect and grow a relationship with is very important to inspire a students learning. Just like people say friends you meet online aren't really your friends, it would make it seem like your teachers aren't really your teachers. I hope that we can get to this advanced society as soon as possible, and stretch into the future.

  21. Even though I was not there to veiw all of the future school related things go on I think that what is in the future for schools is defiantly more technology and also standardization. if all schools became as advanced as many excpect them to be then it could in a way revolutionize the way that kids are taught. Over all though I think what schools will turn into is just a big building of technology with children coming out smarter than ever

  23. After reading lots of these projects the other day, I noticed that almost all of them say that teachers will either no longer be physically present in the classroom, or they won't be needed at all. The thing that scared me the most was the fact that almost everyone said school will probably be held online. That it would all be computerized. This scared me because i like going to school physically too socialize with friends, and i don't think anyone in the future should miss out on that.

  24. Although i was not there to few the schools I feel that we all feel mostly the same that schools will look different more like a bushiness building with less teachers and more students and more technology
