Extrapolation And Future Schools In 2054?

Now that you have read many of your peers' Future School Extrapolation Projects, what are you thinking?  Holistically, what are your reasonable extrapolations regarding all of the extrapolations you have read?  What potential changes excite you the most?  What potential changes fill you with angst and apprehension?  Other thoughts?

  2. Many of the things were believable. There were a few that didn't got to the full point, like military training in the gym, and only changing the curriculum. Overall, many of the presentations were very good. I do believe that we will have more advanced technology and will have an easier school system.

  3. After reading all of the different projects, I'm thinking that schools in 2054 will be mainly based on technology. Looking at all the other projects, the main theme was mainly technology. Most teachers would be holograms, every student would be required to have technology with them. Today, I know that all students don't have technology. But knowing that technology in the future will most likely be advanced makes me excited, because there will be new programs to learn, and I find that very exciting. But, that also gives me a bit of anxiety, if I can't work a new program.
Overall, I did like this assignment though. I think it gave me a better perspective of what others extrapolate about the future. It also made me feel better, knowing that a lot of students think the same way I do, they think technology will be advanced as well.

  5. I saw a lot of thinks that would be online in the future in the presentations. I really liked the idea that walls, desks, and boards would become touch screens. many of my classmates said that the look of the school would be different with hallways with lanes, solar powered buildings, and new chairs (comfortable chairs). I thought the armed security gaurds were not good extrapolations because they are too dangerous if they were automated. All together I think our class made many good extrapolations about school in 2054. what fills me with angst is that our generations kids will have to go through these schools and I hope that school doesn't change too much.

  6. Most of the presentation ideas were kind of the same. They all highlighted the fact that technology is going to become a huge part of schools. There will be a point when teachers just won’t be needed anymore because the learning material will all be technology based. I liked that there might be more energy efficient schools and schools outside because it will give students a change in scenery from just the regular boring classroom to one that is outdoors so they can get some fresh air and still learn the material that’s being taught. It concerns me that schools might switch over to being technology based because for me at least, it is nice to do homework with paper and pencil instead of doing it on an Ipad or computer. It is easier to understand notes or work out problems in math on paper, not through technology.

  7. I noticed a lot of technological advances such as touch-screen boards and desks and more advanced security. The changes that excite me the most are the technological advances. I'm excited to see what will be the new system of classrooms and the technology that students get to use that I won't be able to use. I am interested to see how the security system changes and to see if there will be teachers or not. I want to see how the book scenario will play out as well. Some other thoughts are, I am interested to see how the hallways and cafeteria will differ from how they are now.

  8. After going around the classroom and viewing all of the projects, I have come to conclusion that schooling in 2054 will consist of lots of glass, advanced school buses, and underwater schooling. The first part means that everything will be touch screen and all the computers would be fabricated from a special type of glass. I noticed this in a lot of presentations. The second thing that I mentioned were the buses. Everyone said that their buses could go underwater to take children to school. In another words, it could fly. The science fiction of buses is becoming more true. You see in a lot of movies where buses can fly and we are totally heading that direction. The last thing that I would have to mention would be the schools. I noticed that future schooling would be in the air or underwater. My extrapolation from these projects was that we have many technologies that are advancing rapidly at a rate that some of us still can't comprehend.

  9. Most of the presentations focused on the literal structure of the school. There was a lot of flashy new technology and transportation, but not a lot of policy change. Most of the extrapolations are reasonable, but some were not realistic at all, such as gym class turning into Xeno Warfare, I am more anxious about the actual policy changes then the structural schanges in the school.

  10. I was thinking that almost every one I read had a trend in the change of technology. How laptops and tablets wouldn't exist and instead technology would be run on touch screen items with technology such as Google Glass. Everyone I read had its own interesting idea to it, most had the same futuristic technology and structure slides but one person talked about how school would only be one week in an entire year because there will be a device that can hook up to your brain and give you the information in a school year much faster. That one was the most original and unique idea to me and the one that excites me the most. I would have never thought of that idea. Ideas that fill me with not really angst or apprehension but more of disagreeing, the transportation slides were the only ones that people really had different opinions on. Flying cars is something I don't think will happen anytime soon and some talked about teachers being gone from the classroom. I don't think that will happen because that would affect the economy, a ton of teachers and staff members would be out of jobs. Besides those I thought everyone's presentation was interesting and unique in their own way

  11. After Reading many of the extrapolations the class had to come up with I am somewhat satisfied. Part of the ideas i saw were no more teachers, while that might be nice to most it feels a bit spotty. Humanities unspoken secret is to be taught by man. Computer doesn't connect to man as man connects to man. Other ideas I saw where that school transportation was still the same generally. The classes ranged from room wide smart board to the minds being hooked up to a mental school. Its a bit exciting to see most of this might come to life but its also a bit scary. Being raised in the traditional way as we all were sometimes its nice talking to the teacher or doing things by hand. I don't know how to feel honestly. Its a spotty subject as I said,

  12. The idea of school completely changing is interesting to say the least, but many of the ideas i saw today were completely logical 40 years from now. Concepts like K-College, Food and entertainment being on campus, and more refined curriculum made sense to be implemented. Some ideas were a bit unnerving, like school tracking you through technology, or militaristic PE class. I’d like to see how school turns out in the future, but some inevitable concepts make me glad I won’t be in it.

  13. After reading other Future School Extrapolation Projects, I am thinking about how anything I read in other students' projects could eventually be a reality. Some reasonable extrapolations I read were replacement of teachers with artificial intelligence, the style of architecture changing significantly, and many new methods of travel. The potential changes that excite me the most are the change of architecture many new modes of transportation. The changes that fill me with angst are the use of robots for nearly everything, including completion of daily tasks and teaching students.

  14. Certainly a lot of the things I read seemed like they could very well happen in the near or even distant future, but in the end I believe that almost everything we came up with will one day be relevant. A lot of the potential changes I saw seemed very exciting. With the birth of all the new technology in the future will open up so many possibilities for students and people across the world. I am thrilled to see what the future in school , and truly all aspects of life in the future, will look like in the next 40 years.

  15. Now that I have read many of my peers extrapolation projects I am thinking that schools in 2054 are going to be way more technology based than today. Reasonable extrapolations that I read are that everything is going to technology based and that there will be no teachers just online tutors for every student. The potential changes that excite me the most are the possibily of one week school years due to helmets that implant information straight into your brain. Some potential changes that gave me apprehension were the security robots that scan the kids because you never know if they could malfunction. Some other thoughts I have on this is that the thoughts of what the structures will look like seems very innovative.

  16. Personally, I’m thinking that in 2054, there won’t be much school. Unlike many presentations that I saw, I don’t think there will be a grade school. I think it will mostly be online until kids get to college. I don’t think there will be flying busses or cars, because it would be extremely dangerous, and expensive. What excites me the most, is that there will be much more time spent on technology and learning about it. I think there will be a greater push for competitions regarding technology. However, I’m afraid to see the other school activities to disappear. I think there is a great importance for school sports, speech and debate, band, and other mind stimulating activities. I fear those will start to vanish away as the years go on.

  17. Based upon the majority of the class' presentations it is reasonable to infer that teachers in 2054 will be much less prominent than they are today. Most students extrapolated that they will either no longer be used at all and/or will be much less of a leader and more of a guide. Also, technology was something most people talked about. Technology has changed drastically in the last 40 years so it's easy to guess it will change more drastically (and rapidly) in the next 40. I'm excited to see what the future has to offer by way of technology. It will be so cool too see how the people of our generation makes people's lives more efficient, and create cool new gadgets. On the other hand, I don't want to see a school and/or society completely technology reliant. I think people play a beneficial part in society and technology could overpower that and make our world a much more superficial place. In the future I think our schools should change for the better, expanding the knowledge of technology as well as people.

  18. a lot of the technological advances I saw would be nice but i cant see them happening in 40 years. i can see a wall board that is a touchscreen because we already have that technology but flying buses arent going to happen that quickly

  19. After reading everyone's presentation, I can extrapolate that the education system will be in shambles. Our school systems have been declining longer than I've been alive. "The aim of public education is not to fill the young of the species with knowledge and awaken their intelligence. . . . Nothing could be further from the truth. The aim . . . is simply to reduce as many individuals as possible to the same safe level, to breed and train a standardized citizenry, to put down dissent and originality. That is its aim in the United States. . . . " - Henry Mencken, The American Mercury, April 1924. I strongly agree with Mr. Mencken, America is being dumbed down. I can extrapolate that the elite class of citizens will be able to afford mentors and tutors. Like the richest of Greeks attending The Academy (Plato). I only have angst for future generations. Children in 40 years will be feeling the repercussions of irresponsible generations before them.

  20. I liked all of the presentations that I saw, but things that I saw a lot was touch pad lockers, robot/ holographic teachers, and also books being completely gone. Things like no books, and touch pad lockers excite me the most. Having no books would make it a lot easier for students because if it's all digital they just need their electronic of choice for class. Also the lockers with touch pad would make it a lot easier to get into your locker. The change that would make me happy is no teacher, mainly because robots/ holograms would be programmed to teach every kid quickly and efficiently. Just the thought of this technology blows my mind if it would become a reality.

  21. After reading my peers’ Future School Extrapolation Project, I realize that most people in our generation have the same thoughts and expectations on how the future will be. Reasonable extrapolations would be a difference in what is being taught, how it’s being taught, and by who. Also, the school formatting for example, different looking schools in different location. It would be most exciting to experience schools in the sky or water and also or the advanced technology. New inventions being created to help people learn better and easier will be an exciting time for upcoming students. Changes that makes me feel anxiety would be robotic teachers and higher controlled learning systems. The future is exciting but dangerous and although it is good to advance, we must also remember our values.

  22. My extrapolation is that it seems society is going to be a utopia. I have seen many Utopian ideas such as a thinking cap that people wear so then the knowledge can be in their brains. This makes each school year last about a week. It seems less stressful than for school to last a year. The transportation is also something to be excited about the future because students are now able to fly on school buses instead of getting stuck in traffic. What I am anxious about is that people will focus on technology instead of focusing on the more important things of life. My other thought is that nobody said anything about security.

  23. After reading my classmates future schools project I saw a lot of similar trends, different Ideas , and some that looked very much the same as my project. When I was reading through I saw a lot of extrapolations that were not very reasonable, like I was reading one and the y said that there would be schools in the sky or underwater I agree that would be cool but a little drastic. I also saw realistic ones to like a lot of people said improvement in smart boards and technology in general. changes that excite me the most would be not having teachers because in class I think sometimes I get confused based on the teacher explaining and I also was excited by the new technology and innovations. Changes that I saw that I don't really enjoy were strict rules and learning. Overall though I think there where a lot of really good Ideas.

  24. I am thinking that in the future it is going to be a lot more advanced, but granted we are a lot more advanced then 40 years ago. Some reasonable extrapolations that I read today were that there would be more advanced security, better food options, the teachers will be replaced, and that most of the books are going to be on E-readers. A potential change that I am most excited about is the transportation, because on one of them it sounded like the trains from the Hunger Games. In that same presentation, they talked about each subject being a different district. A potential change that I am scared about is not having teachers, because I know I learn better with a visual presentation and teachers give that best. Other thoughts of mine are that a lot of school buildings were a little out of reach, including mine as well.

  25. After reading my peers' presentations, I realized we all have the same ideas and extrapolations. The physical appearance of schools was a change I saw in all of the projects. One group said teachers will not have to put much effort into their work because of the technology surrounding students. I think it's a great way for students to be independent and get their work done quickly. Transportation was also another change that was common in these presentations. Cars and buses will work more efficiently and get people to their destinations faster. Another idea I enjoyed was students will have a device to put on their heads in order to learn and understand topics. I am looking forward to our future and how it will have a large impact on our everyday lives.

  26. The common theme was that teachers would become obsolete. Also energy would move more towards solar power. The concerning element to me is that teachers will no longer be in a class room. People suggested that because of that there might be larger classrooms or no classrooms at all. That is especially concerning to me because then education becomes even less personal than now.

  27. Now that I have read some of my peers' Future School Extrapolation Projects I can see that school will change a lot in 40 years. Some reasonable extrapolations I read were new motives of travel and better smart boards. I also saw things like more security too. Some of the coolest changes to school that I saw to school would be flying school busses and schools that were floating or underwater. I am anxious about the schools loosing the teachers. This was a common topic between the projects. I feel that the teachers make school what it is and taking them away would be terrible

  28. In the future schools project I noticed a trend of how the teachers were started to not really teach the class or be completely eliminated. The schools were run by technology, some had robots teaching, or touch screen desks so that a student could research anytime. The appearance of the schools also changed, some included large windows and solar panles. The interior of the school also changed almost every presentation showed that there would be touchscreen walls and touchscreen desks. The most popular trend I say was eliminating the teacher. I thought that was interesting because I think the teacher has such an impact on the class and how you learn. I think in the future school will not be as personal it will strictly be a place for gaining knowledge there will be no time for making friends during school. That is something else I noticed, the schools are more strict. There is a strict schedule and it seems like in the future school will be moving very quickly. I am eager to see what the future schools and technology will be like.

  29. After reading other "Future Schools Extraopolation Projects" I think that the Future Schools were the best. They talked about how in the future schools would be all glass, to get into the school you would have to use face and hand scanners. The ones that excited me the most was the one idea that you take a pill and you gain all the knowledge you will ever need. I am really anxious about the structure of the schools in the future

  30. After reading other "future schools" for our Extrapolation project, I saw that they were mostly talking about how teachers would be turning into robots and how all of the technology will change and how the schools will all be more high tech looking.

  31. After reading "Future Schools Extrapolation Projects" there were some ideas that made me really excited, and some that made me really nervous. The idea of having no teachers is not something I would want for our future. While it may be more efficient in some respects, I have always learned best from teachers who were passionate about what they were teaching. Also, a robot won't be able to accommodate everyone's different learning styles. The idea that excited me in a good way was the concept of running schools off of solar energy.
