  1. Xenophobia means fear of the unknown or fear of something different. The card activity helped with this definition because, I had no idea what my card said. I didn't know if it was good or bad so I was a little worried it would be something bad. I was fearful of what I didn't know, my card asked the viewer to tap there foot while I was speaking. I didn't get it at first and it was somewhat annoying and bugged me. Finally I realized why they were doing it because that's what the card time them to do.

  2. Xenophobia is the fear of a stranger or foreigner or of something strange or foreign. The card game provided a good example for what xenophobia is and the effects that it can have. In the card game, people walked around with cards on their foreheads. These cards each had a different command on them. Of course, each person could not see his/her card, only other people's cards. There was a growing tension in the class because everyone else knew what their card said and that person wanted to know, too. Some people had cards that said " Ignore me" or "Don't look at my face". These cards made the wearer feel excluded from the activity all together. This is a lot like how xenophobia works. People were afraid of what their card said and because of this, they responded in different ways. Some people simply gave up the activity a few seconds into the game because of frustration or curiosity while others mingled with everyone, in attempt to figure out what their card said. When a person experiences real xenophobia, though, they tend to bypass curiosity and instead begin to panic or flee. Though the card game didn't provide an extreme example of what xenophobia can do to a person, it did provide the general idea of what xenophobia is through the tension created by the unknown.

  3. Xenophobia is the fear of a stranger or foreigner or of something strange or foreign. The card game provided me with being able to understand how, exactly, we act to others that we don't know all the way. The game showed that when someone treats you differently because of an unknown field it makes you feel different, in a bad way. The card I had was laugh at me whenever I say something, this made me feel like I couldn't say anything without them laughing at me. When playing this card game you defiantly felt isolated and different from everyone else. When this relates to science fiction, xenophobia is related to the foreign human/thing that the main characters have never interacted with. This could be an alien from a different planet, that humans are scared of because they know nothing about the aliens and what their intentions are.

  4. Xenophobia is a fear of the strange, unknown and foreign. The card activity helped me to further understand what xenophobia meant by experiencing it first hand. My card said 'Laugh at everything I say,' so I was confused when I started talking to people and they were laughing. It caused me to get somewhat anxious since I had no idea what they were laughing and I became nervous about what the card actually said. Humans crave a sense of stability and predictability in their lives so I believe that we all suffer from a form of xenophobia at one point or another.
Xenophobia can relate to science fiction in that often times in science fiction stories the characters encounter an unknown object or species. This can be seen by the fear and paranoia that the crew experienced in The Forbidden Planet because they had no idea what they were being attacked by and it was a foreign and strange monster.

  5. The term xenophobia means the fear of the unknown this incorporated to the card game by us fearing what our card said but we did not know for example my card said “ Argue with Me “. This then comes into science fiction by not knowing what the future has in store for us and that could be a danger. Also not knowing if that technology that you see in Star Wars and Star Trek could potentially come to exist and make our lives easier then before. So you could either be exited for the future our fear the new things to come.

  6. It is only human nature to fear what is unfamiliar to us. Xenophobia, the fear of the unknown was experienced first handedly during the card activity. It is easy to wonder what is on the card and whether it is good or bad. The unknown is how our peers behave towards us and it makes us not only uncomfortable but frightful for what could happen. This feeling relates to science fiction because even though we are curious of the unknown, there is a strong sense of discomfort and fear in exploration. It is easy to run from these situations even though they could render as harmless. In the end it is up to us to decide how we treat these foreign elements and whether we approach them with excitement or resistance.

  7. Xenophobia is the fear of a stranger or foreigner or of something strange or foreign. The card activity made me think about how a complete stranger could do whatever the card says and I wouldn't even know about it. I felt like I had a really hard time doing what the other cards were telling me to do, just because I either wasn't sure how to act it out, or if the person didn't talk I wouldn't know what to say because my card was telling them to not look at my face. It was funny though because the other person had no idea what their card was, and I had no idea what mine was. Trying to figure it out made it very interesting and fun.

  8. My definition of xenophobia is the fear of foreign things. The card game made me think of my definition of xenophobia with how we were to treat people just because their cards werre different than our own. The people who had "ignore me" seemed very ashamed. I had the catd "argue with me" and that made me frustrated to only talk with people that would tell my I was wrong. I saw that some people would become frustrated, or amused, or angry. Xenophobia makes people upset.

  9. Xenophobia is the fear of the unknown, or what you can't control. The card game made me, at least, think how xenophobia could make people react to others. When you had that card on your head people had to react to what your card said. So people with the card "Ignore me" May have felt weird from people that wouldn't talk to them. Mine said "nod at me" it was weird to have all these people nodding at me and it was annoying that i couldn't get them to stop. That is xenophobia the fear of what you can't control.

  10. Xenophobia is intense or irrational dislike or fear of people from other countries or places. The card game really worked well for his because some people became worried because they were supposed to ignored, and this scared them because they did not know this.

  11. Xenophobia, the fear of the unknown or the foreign was described perfectly by the card game. My card, "Every time I talk start dancing" was just confusing. I wasn't sure what was happening and not understanding became increasingly frustrating, I didn’t understand anything that was happening. Although, I didn’t have it that bad. The people who had cards like “Don’t look at my face” they were the outsiders, the people who a xenophobic person would ignore.

  12. Xenophobia is the fear of something that is different from the normal. The card activity made it fairly entertaining but also a little annoying to see what certain people might think of others. This is definitely a frustration when your card says "ignore me," and you are just trying to live your life. Xenophobia probably won't be something that goes away for good any time soon, but I hope that it can get better so as a society, we can come together.

  13. Xenophobia is basically the fear of something you don't know or that is different or not normal. I wasn't here for the card activity but I would assume that by not knowing what the said you would naturally fear it. People fear many things that are unknown especially the future. It is something that none of us can predict or control very much which is why we fear it so much.

  14. Xenophobia is the fear of the unknown, the fear of not knowing. The card activity was a great example of xenophobia because i dont know what my card said, but everyone around me did. Not knowing what my card said was annoying because everyone would do what it said and i wouldn't. My card said to shake your head whenever you speak.

  15. My own personal definition of xenophobia is when people are afraid of what other countries are doing or what they might be doing because they think that america might get or that world war three might break out. Then if world war three does break out than the whole planet will probably be just completely destroyed because of all of the nuclear war power across the whole world.

  17. My personal definition of xenophobia is fear of what you dont understand. We see this whenever humans are afraid of an alien race in any story we read. Emotions related with xenophobia include hate, fear, and hostility towards the unknown race. The card activity mad us feel xenophobia because we didnt know why people were acting the way they were.

  18. To me Xenophobia means the fear of the unknown, or fear of strangers. Emotions related with xenophobia include hate, fear. I don't think I was there when we played the card game, but to my understanding People were fearful of why the people who knew what was on the card were acting like they did.

  19. I do believe that Xenophobia does connect with Science Fiction because I feel in this style of writing there is a lot of unknown and that is kind of what keep the reader interested. While reading the stories throughout this year I felt a creepy theme in most of them and that's what I had connected to Xenophobia and that is also why I do believe Xenophobia is a connection with Science Fiction.
