Extrapolation And Future Schools In 2053?

Now that you have read many of your peers' Future School Extrapolation Projects, what are you thinking?  Holistically, what are your reasonable extrapolations regarding all of the extrapolations you have read?  What potential changes excite you the most?  What potential changes fill you with angst and apprehension?  Other thoughts?

  1. In most of the Future School projects I saw today, I saw a lot of touch screen technologies, whether it be touch screen desks or lockers everybody seemed to have that similar idea. I also noticed lockers with finger print recognition which I thought was pretty cool. I think most of the ideas presented today were reasonable since we already have the technology, its just mass producing it and putting it in schools.

  2. There were many architectural advances for the school buildings as well as the way the classes are taught. Almost everyone thought of other advances such as future cars and glass screens. Though there were a few different ideas or thoughts, most everyone had the same general viewpoint for future schools.

  3. From what I have seen, Virtual Reality is one of the main expectations of future education. This is very exciting for me, as it would allow subjects like history, language arts, and even science to come alive more so than ever before. I believe that virtual reality will become a huge part of our culture in the coming years, in entertainment as much as in education.

  4. One interesting thing I noticed is that there isn’t a lack of teachers. Many people’s presentations still had human teachers not robotic ones. One group gave a good explanation for this, saying that teachers provide a connection with the students and are good at troubleshooting, which I guess robots cannot replace. What excited me the most was the idea of flying cars and being able to park them on a landing pad above school. I also liked the Moon Republic idea as I thought that was incredibly unique. None of them that I read really worried me too much, except the idea of having a “School Town” with dorms for the students. Even though that already exists today, the idea of spending your high school life like that isn’t for me. Overall the projects all had very good ideas, and I hope many of them become reality in the future.

  5. What excites me the most, is the schools have technology built into the classroom, and everything is student oriented and interactive. Two slides that I saw that gave me reservations were a slide that claimed the moon had gained its independance and students were implanted with some kind of chip, and another slide show that claimed we will be compleatly run by technology and we will be in a sort of revolution against it. (reminds me of the terminator)

  6. I saw a lot of realistic but far out future ideas. I think we will have the technology for all of it but the thing is will the government want to do all of this. I don't know if by the year 2053 if it will be socially acceptable to have all this in school. I think we will be that advanced though.

  7. Some of the ideas were amazing. I liked the advances of technology. Everyone seemed to like touchscreen desks. In our own project, we included touchscreen desks, but everyone else thought of plugging them in. Whoops! I thought it was interesting how many people replaced teachers with robots. I don't really like that idea, I feel teachers are irreplaceable. Ask a question of a robot and it may not know the answer. Humans are capable of thought and emotion, as one group brought up, and that's more important. It saddens me how many groups, including our own, thought that heightened security would be a necessity. I hope as a society we can stop tragedies at the source before this becomes commonplace. It also amazed me how many presentations included realistic advancements. When my mother was my age, and you asked her about touchscreen desks, she would have thought you spend too much time with your nose buried in Sci-Fi books. Nowadays, we expect that to be used in the near future. Our own project included holographic sports, a technology that may seem too far fetched, but in reality, it is already being used elsewhere. I hope that ideas like these will inspire future growth.

  8. There were a lot of reoccurring themes like better tablets or robots for teachers getting robots for teachers would be bad because there wouldn't be any teaching jobs so there would be a lot of teachers out of work. There would also be more technology like clear tablets or computers in desks. This would be a good step into the future because it makes for a new way of learning.

  9. My reasonable extrapolations regarding all of the extrapolations I have read is the more enhanced classrooms with more advance desks and seats, aswell as tablets for each one. Also, the cafeterias will have a more comfortable seating area. The potential change that excites me the most are the classrooms. They will look a lot nicer, also it will be easier to write homework down, take tests and notes, etc. No potential changes really fill me with angst or apprehension. I am excited to see how the world will be in 2053.

  10. I think that though a lot of the ideas are non realistic (including some of my own) there still are some things that could possibly happen that make you have to think. A few ideas that I thought were very possible were having far more advanced technology (desks that are computers, robots, etc) and there were others that seemed very far out there but were still very interesting. I am most excited to see the touch table desks that work as computers. I think it is a very good idea and will make school work a lot easier. I'm least excited about even the remote chance of becoming a moon base rebel. All in all I learned a lot from this project and developed a few ideas of my own on the subject of future schools.

  11. Although the technology used is schools will only affect out children and their children, there are some cool ideas. One idea I like is the idea of a touchscreen computer desk combo. This would save students time and trouble with worrying where your files are. The one idea that I did not care for was the idea of robots teaching our children. Humans naturally need to interact with other humans. If we only react with humans a couple hours a day then we would all eventually go insane. It is very difficult to predict what our schools will look like, but some of these ideas are more likely than others to be put into action

  12. The thought of how advanced the technology will be in 2053 is the most exciting part to think about for me. Having no paper and everything being electronic means better for the environment. Also students will still be taught by actual people (teachers) in a classroom. And some people thought of learning by robots or devices you get into or put on that teach you what you need to know. But if everyone can learn the same things just as easily of putting something on to teach you knowledge then everyone would be the same in a way. College's like Harvard wouldn't be so hard to get into since everyone theoretically knows the same amount.

  13. Many students had down that in every classroom there will be a smart board and overall have more technological advances. I think that the schools will have advances but the most basic things at a school will remain the same, such as the teachers. Throughout history teachers have remained no matter what the advances were. I think that some students learn better this way. The thought of having no teachers is kind of scary to me, but the changes that are exciting will be the more learning opportunities with technology. And this allows the students and teachers to be more efficient.

  14. Trends I noticed in the Future School projects were the large advancements in technology. Computers will be used by every student, tablets with projected keyboards, desks and social gatherings with outlets for computers. My reasonable extrapolations regarding the things I have read are that we see advances today, and these will become even more prevalent. Some potential changes that excite me are the finger print locker scan, which seems very interesting and unique. The modernized school system also excites me, including the variety of clubs that will be offered and classes fit to current society. The changes that fill me with angst include replacing the teacher, as teachers provide much insight and life lessons.

  15. Most people talked about the ability to be able to download lessons and information in the future, it was a common trend. The idea of this excites me, as this would be cost, time, and physically more efficient than schools nowadays. There is also a trade off, as we would basically be schooled individually, the social dynamic of high school would be lost, which is a real tragedy because even though we don't think about it our everyday interaction with our peers helps prepare us for the work world. On a daily basis we deal with many different social situations, learning how to build relationships and work together to solve problems, all necessary exercises to survive and deal with different situations in life, and even though the problems and situation of survival may change in the future, the need to be able to solve them and work together stays the same, and having this downloadable school would eliminate the practice we get everyday, and in my opinion would completely change the social norm of society to make us almost entirely an pure individualistic society.

  16. I definitely see a few patterns in ideas of the future schools. There were a lot of robots, and touch screens, and surprisingly less teachers. In regards to what will really happen, I think we will see a lot of these things in the future. Especially better touchscreens on smart boards, and everybody having computers, however I don't see us completely getting rid of human teachers any time soon. Since it isn't really that far into the future, I don't see any huge changes happening.

  17. Some presentations showed futures that were run mostly by robots and technologies beyond our current advancements, these are the futures that I also believe we will someday reach. Other presentations showed how we would revert and go back to a primitive society, which I disagree with because I think we are constantly improving our current technologies. I think for the most part we all agreed that the classrooms will be changed by technology and we as students will rely more on ourselves and less on teachers and textbooks. I thought it was funny how most of us thought we would have virtual desks, touchscreens, and "paperless" classrooms in 2053.

  18. from looking off what everyone else had on there project they all seemed to relate on what they thought the future was going to hold. what at excites me the most would defiantly be the technology and how they are thinking that we will basically have no need to carry a lap top or computer around to get the info that we need to get our school, work done with in just seconds. i think that we can achieve all that we have thought of with the way our technology has grown in the last 12 years is crazy. If doctors could have the tech that i saw on the video that would help get medical problems someone might have be realized much faster than normal and it would be more efficient.

  19. After looking through some of the future school projects I found similar ideas my group had come up with. Many of the presentations mentioned that there would be no paper in use and that the classroom would have nothing but technology. That was a common idea. One idea I wasn't too sure about was the idea that teachers would be eliminated from the classroom, I don't think that will ever happen. Students need structure and guidance, especially early on. An interesting thing me and my partner didn't come up with is a machine that makes school lunches. I think that could be very possible. Overall everyone seemed to have generally a similar vision.

  20. After viewing the various presentations, one of the things that stood out to me was how technology was utilized in every future schools scenario I saw. Although the use of technology was different, one presentation I saw focused on the security of the students by having more secure lockers. Another presentation I saw, declared that in the future all teachers with be artifical intelligence, and wheather controlling domes without classrooms will be the setting for the new education standard. One of my favorite presentations involved a new society that lives on the moon, and educates kids one how to defend their beloved moon base in case of an attack. But all presentations had technology as a key factor, which I believe will be a key factor in future.

  21. The most exciting change that i saw a couple of times was the elimination of paper and bringing in touch screens to substitute for desks. Also i saw a couple times that teachers will be replaced by robots or A.i.

  22. After viewing future schools proposals by my peers, I can confidently say that the future is looking bright for students of 2053. One group had a video of a future school which featured energy efficient windows, transparent tablets, and interactive projectors that could sync with the student’s tablets. If those inventions are attainable, which I believe they are, then future educational technology will be extremely user friendly and more efficient than the triple ees we currently use. Other presentations mentioned fingerprint recognition for lockers which, in theory is a good idea, but the cost would likely detract from the benefits of the device. For the most part, I saw that future schools are similar to schools now, but the technology is more advanced.

  23. There are very few realistic ideas that are possible by the year 2053. The ideas that are possible are robots for teacher's, or locker with scanners to limit locker breakin's. The schools and cars will be all run on electricity like the movie "looper" with modified cars that have solar panels. My favorite idea is the idea of all student's having laptops built into desks. But overall students will be still be having the same brain power as earlier generations.

  24. In each case the schools got more advanced and were often assisted by robots. Making it easier for the teachers. But not fully removing them from the equation of education. In some cases they would have it almost entirely automated. Many of the projects pointed out the advancements as a sort of cheer to humanity. "Look how far we have come! Look at what we can accomplish." The science fiction elements were also tied into each project. They made projections into the future as to the nature of education. The way the system would be run, and who would run it.

  25. After hearing about what others thought about future schools my thought stayed the same. I believe that looking back years ago there wasn't some of the great inventions we have today they had to find other ways to do stuff. If the technology keeps advancing like it has been over many years I believe future schools will have many new inventions and have way more technology to make things eaiser then we have right now, the way new things are being inventeed by a few years schools will be very different then they are now.

  26. After the projects I saw, it seems like all the projects had something to do with touch screens and holograms. Like touch screen desks and hologram teachers. other than all the new technology I believe that there will be little change in how school is carried out.l

  27. What would schools be like in 2053? I personally think that schools wouldn't change that much. People have thought about incredible inventions in the past, but it only gets crazier. My thoughts on schools in 2053 are that they might change a lot more. More technology will be introduced to schools and the outside world. One of my ideas for future schools is computer desks. Computer desk would be like a giant iPad but its your entire desk. You would never have to bring a computer ever again. Kids could have their own computer desk at home. Also another one of my ideas was class routes. a class route is kind of escalator like inventions that you step on and it takes you to class. That way kids in schools would never be late to class. But if you gave it some deep thought kids would get more and more obese over the ages. I don't know what future is going to be like but i hope that its going to be great.
