  1. People today are concerned with the advancement of our technology and the potential harm that could come from these creations. People are concerned that we aren't thinking enough about the consequences. The frankenstein complex is always a relevant thing, it has to do with our fear of the unknown that is always there in humans. There was this fear when technology was hardly advanced and there is certainly that fear now.

  2. The video shows that we created the web and that we are teaching it every second of every day. We are teaching a machine that is potentially very dangerous and could become a weapon against us. This is exactly how Frankenstein feels with the monster he created; the monster learned and Frankenstein felt threatened and scared. I think that the more intelligent machinery and technology we create, the more potential enemies we have, because at the pace these things learn, they could learn that they are superior in some aspects and bring war to humans. Or whatever.

  3. The short movie clips made me think that the machine really is us because we are the ones who created it and we are the ones that use and continue to use it. We add and erase whatever we want and we pretty much teach the machines on how to work and what to look for and teach them how to work to fit our needs. The one quote that really made me think about this whole thing is the quote from the movie clip, "us in the machine": "The machine is ourselves."

  4. The video shows how we create and teach machines to do what we want. It makes you think of how one click can create something new for the machine to learn. It connects to the Frankenstein Complex because we created the machines, we teach the machines, but we think less of them and don't care for them such as in EPICAC how the main character teaches EPICAC to love.

  5. I think this video is trying to warn us that the internet is becoming to powerful. We created the internet and every day we contribute to its knowledge. Perhaps this frightens some people. Frankenstein is really scared of what he created and it connects with this video due to the complex.

  6. The video makes me think about how we use technology and how we surf the web.I think it connects with the Frankenstein complex because the video was talking about how the computers are learning and connecting different ideas by looking at what we like to use and look at.It is similar to Epicac because that machine was learning and evolving and could adapt to the needs of the user like the internet is starting to.

  7. The video is a different way to think about the way technology is advancing. It is a way to think of us with the machine because the machine is a making of our own enigma. As it said in the video, we are the machine. I think that this is interesting because we have always been taught that it was us against the machine and that we were to compete against it for jobs and our friends. I feel like this way of thinking is a better way to approach technology because it won't limit our potential to create with technology.

  8. It shows how intertwined we are with technology, that we don't even realize it. It just apart of our every day life, that it has become necessary. But the computers keep getting smarter, as we get smarter, and one day its going to be so overwhelming, that we might not know know how to over come it. We have created something that wont stop advancing.

  9. I found the short video, us in the machine, to be an extremely relevant and somewhat frightening concept, that should be taken seriously, but unfortunately will probably not be fixed by an y method short of complete annihilation of the internet. Identity is changing, property is changing, truth is becoming subjective, and subjectivity is becoming lost. With an influx of so many ideas in one place, the internet has a great potential for good, but it also has a great potential for the destruction of everything that we hold to be static and unyielding.

  10. I think the video makes us think about how much we are using machines every day and how much we will be latter in the future. The video connects to the frankenstien complex cause if we keep upgrading the machines they will become more like us."I don't want to be a machine". in the story EPICAC devlopes feelings and wants to be a human.

  11. This video makes me think about how some very useful inventions can be abused and used against people. This connects with the Frankenstein Complex because we need to change the way we think and perceive the web. "We are the future, not you men." This quote, from Eyebem, shows how perception is key to understanding between two people or concepts. You need to understand the web and understand society to know how to perceive it correctly. You need to understand yourself and the thing you created to use it correctly and safely.

  12. It makes me think how far technology and the web has come, now being able to learn and remember what we teach it. This might connect with the Frankenstein complex due to how what we created is evolving, learning and becoming more important in our lives. It is making things become obsolete and becoming uncontrollable. We could become fearful of what we have created as it grows more powerful.

  13. The video "Us in the machine" scares me. It makes me think that we are being controlled by a machine and it is invading our privacy and essentially changing the way we think and act online and offline. It is making us rethink ourselves. The machine is desiggned for us;"We're designed for it, Mark. This is our home out here. If anyone's out of place it's you"... -Eyebem

  14. Watching this video, it makes me think because we don't realize how much technology we use a day and how much it would affect our lives if we didnt have it to use. You don't see poeple writing notes or using books to do ALL of their research. This can connect to the Frankenstien clip beucase the clip shows that monster can control, threaten and harm if he doesnt get what he wants. In "Epicac" the text states "...but that doesnt mean he wasnt nobel and great and brillant. he was all of those things. The best freind i ever had." This connects becuase he is a robot and just wants to fit in but he cant, due to his differency to others.

  15. The video was purposefully designed to make us think about the world we live in. I almost feel that it was designed to scare us a little bit. It really made me think about how much of ourselves we put into computers and other technology. We represent ourselves on facebook, youtube, and other sites. "Pretending , as I said, to think we were all the same person, she called us all Mark;" (Eyebem, page 156). This quote refers to how robots were very similar to

  16. I thought the video was really cool.
i never thought that they computers were controlling us. I also did not realize that we were teaching the computers. They are smarter than us but I never thought that they could us our information to help themselves. "I reset the dials on EPICAC for a rocket trajectory problem, and went home with a full heart and very remarkable secret." this quote shows that the computer knows more than we do, they out smart us on every level but we still have control over them.

  17. It connects to how we are inputting data or ideas into the minds of machines and how everything we do affects our surroundings. The video talked about how every time we type something in the machine learns from that and that correlates to the story Epicac in which the computer learned to love through the love of the human. It also correlates to Frankenstein in which during the story he learns a language a thought process and the idea of love through observation of how humans acted. The video shows how everything is connected and how everything we do matters.

  18. I think that the video, "Us in the Machine" hit the nail on the head. Society today is so dependent on technology that we (as modern day Americans) are overly attached to something as simple minded as a machine. In the story EPICAC, by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr., EPICAC is anything but simple minded, but it has to be taught simple human emotions. The machine ends up short circuiting itself because it cannot experience the things that a human can. When Dr. Von Kleigstadt, EPICAC's creator, found EPICAC, he was "weeping unashamedly" because he was so connected to the equipment. Also, the narrator starts of the story by saying, "it's about time somebody told about my friend EPICAC". Frankly, I don't think that it's healty to refer to a machine as a "friend", but that isn't that what modern day society thinks of them as? We communicate more with technology now than every, and we are dependent. "Us in the Machine" couldn't have been more accurate.

  19. The video shows that technology is becoming more difficult to avoid and that we end up using it more as technology advances. It connects to the Frankenstein complex because no matter how advance that technology will become, there will always be a flaw or a downside to it.

  20. Both Frankenstein and the video show how much power humans have. We control what we create, and what we use in every day life, even to create more. If you think about it, we use the internet to create things. Whether it is a project, a facebook message, or a scientific experiement, we use technology. In a sense, we create technology in order to help us create more. We are completely in charge, which can bring humanity very far in the world, yet at the same time be very dangerous.

  21. This video puts technology in a creepy light for me. Humans seem to have power to create things that are beyond what we can think about, and beyond what they think they can accomplish. Technology just continues to advance at an alarming rate, and it's scary how much we can access now through one small device. We continue to become more and more dependent on technology and, though it's cool to see what we can accomplish, our society would basically crash if we didn't have technology because we've built our society around it.

  22. The video relates to Frankenstein by showing the results and/or consequences of what we create. Yet in the video, it is seen positively, and in Frankenstein, it is seen negatively. The video shows that it is up to us to create things. Frankenstein shows that what we create is often times feared.

  23. this video shows the frankenstien complex in the way that sometimes what we create can actually help us and be for the good of man kind. also how when we create things somtimes it surpasses us and our knowlage. but the frankenstien complex from what i understand can go the otherway as far as not being able to understand somthing and thus fearing it or just fearing our own creations in general
