  2. Fear of the unknown. This activity made you think, and try and understand there reactions to your card. Read their body language. I think it teaches us to pay more attention to how people are reacting to things we are unaware of.

  3. To me, xenophobia is the fear of the unknown. It surrounds our society and all societies in general. During the card activity, we made some people feel really insecure and unsafe. This was caused by other people's reaction to the card on their forehead. My card read, "Ask my opinion!". It didn't really make me feel unsafe, but I know that's what it was intended to do. When a person feels unsafe, they might turn to anything. If this means putting all of the Japanese people into internment camps, fine. If this means turning in your neighbors and family for the crime of communism, so be it. People who fear something will go to extreme lengths to feel safe again, even if it means surpassing their moral judgement at the time.

  4. My definition of Xenophobia is fear of the unknown. The card activity represents this in how it can make people feel apprehensive about how people are perceiving them, because of the thing that is unknown. In science fiction, people are usually scared of the future, the future is the unknown thing.

  5. My definition of xenophobia is fear of what you don't know or understand, or fear of not knowing what is going to happen. Science Fiction deals with the future, which of course is a mystery to us. We have no way of being positive of what the world is going to be like even in a year. Who will be president, what changes will happen, what will the economy be like? We can alter the future, predict the future, but we'll never know the future. Sometimes people do things to make sure the future doesn't change or to make sure their life is predictable due to xenophobia. The quote on my note card said "accept my ideas," which is a positive note card, but it was awkward walking around the room wondering if I had the "ignore me" note card. Not knowing what my card was affected the way I interacted with others because it meant they knew something about me I didn't, and it made me more hesitant to talk to them and suspicious of what they would say to see if it would give me some sort of idea as to what my note card said. The card activity showed me that people are always going to try and figure out the future, but it will never work.

  6. My definition of xenophobia is fear of the unknown and strange. this showed through the card activity by fearing what card you got. i know that i got the one card i did not want to get, i got the “ignore me” card. it was awkward to experience the reaction of everybody. i believe fear, betrayal, and anger all are connected with xenophobia.

  7. My definition of xenophobia is the fear of the unknown. The card activity helped me think of my definition by demonstrating firsthand what it is like to be ignored, accepted, or questioned. I can connect a lot with xenophobia because I am a skeptic of the unknown, although I welcome it in with open arms, I won’t always be willing to accept in all the way in. “Ignore me!” was written on my card in the activity. I am use to being treated like this mainly because I am sort of an outcast of society, listening to different ideas, and disagreeing with what is happening in the world today.

  8. My definition of xenophobia is a fear of strangers, outsiders or foreigners and their culture. In the card activity it connected with the definitions of xenophobia because you didn't know what was on your card and you are scared of what the card could be.

  9. Xenophobia is the fear of the unknown. The card activity exemplified xenophobia because no one was aware of what their card said and they were fearful of the way that people would treat them. Some people's cards said to ignore them so when no one was talking to them they looked a little confused and didn't know what was going on. Other people's cards said not to look at their face which could have instilled fear in people because they didn't know why people weren't looking at them. My card said "Agree with me" and I noticed that no matter what I said, even if it was ridiculous, people were still agreeing with me. This made me fearful that people weren't actually paying attention to what I was saying, they were just agreeing.

  10. Xenophobia is when a person has the fear of something strange or unknown or foreign. take for example during the card activity, my card said "don't look at my face." this is an example of xenophobia because you don't like something strange or unknown to you. so a person wouldn't look at me or someone else who may have had the same card. they didn't like the unknown. they didn't know the person. they were strange new and foreign to you.

  11. Xenophobia is a dislike or fear of people from other countries or of that which is foreign or strange. Xenophobia seems to come from irrationality or unreason. This relates to the card activity, because other people knew what you did not know. It makes you feel very strange and out of place, because I did not understand that my classmates were supposed to "interrupt me." The whole game was somewhat awkward, as it was difficult to decide what to say to people, and difficult to guess what was on your own card.

  12. To me, xenophobia is the fear of the unknown and the reluctance to change because of the fear. The card activity showed how it was to be on the good side of xenophobia for me because i was always having people agree with me. It sort of represented that whole intimidation factor that be associated with xenophobia. However, the emotions that I normally assign to xenophobia are usually negative because most people are usually on the receiving end of the intimidation. In science fiction, I would assume it would be based on our reluctance to change and to put humans in a position otherwise unthinkable such as planet of the apes.

  13. Xenophobia: The fear of something that is different. In the activity, my card read "Take everything I say as a personal insult." This caused everyone I interacted with to treat me as if I was being intentionally unkind, while I really wasn't. In reality, people are treated as if they actually did have a card on their forehead asking people to treat them differently.

  14. Xenophobia is the fear of the unknown and is apparent throughout a lot of human aspects. The unknown could include aliens, technology, unexplored territory, and strangers. My card during class said to "accept my ideas". My card which was in this situation "unknown" made me feel pretty good and i had no fearful connections with it. however, other people had cards that caused them to be scared of the unknown.

  15. The Xenophobia Activity helped the class understand what xenophobia really is, just in a different way. Xenophobia means the fear of things that are different and the unknown. When we had our cards on our heads, people wanted to know what it said because the answer was so accessible. Also, through this activity, people were treated differently. I intentionally ignored people, and avoided eye contact because the card told me to do so. This activity pushed people outside of their comfort zone, and made people worry about being different, and wanting to know what was supposed to be unknown.

  16. Xenophobia is the fear of the foreign or unknown. This activity made me feel discriminated against because I had no knowledge of what they were trying to do. My card said "Argue with me!" This made me feel like I was wrong and unliked. It felt like everybody was out to get me.

  17. My definition of xenophobia is a fear of something or someone that is foreign or strange. The card activity made me realize, that we do tend to label people almost as much as sticking a card on their forehead. I noticed that some of the treatment people received was very similar to normal interactions. I also think that people tend to fear that which is similar to them, but with a slight difference. This is why zombies and serial killers are a more common occurance in the horror industry than they once were. Xenophobia brings about any number of different emotions from the person that is fearful and the person that is feared. Some of these emotions include, self loathing and domination.

  18. I define xenophobia as the fear of the unknown. The card activity made me think that it could also mean not knowing what to expect. The card that i got said "Cross your arms & squint your eyes when I speak" I did not know what to expect when i said something.

  19. Xenophobia: is the dislike or fear of people from other countries or anything foreign or strange. The card activity made me think to expand this definition to: the fear of the unknown. The emotions I felt during the card activity was confusion when people reacted to my card, curiosity about what my card was and what other people's were, and happiness from finding out what other's cards while they were unaware. Personally I did not feel Xenophobia, I found this more of a fun activity. I wasn't nervous at all since we were all in the same situation. Of course, if I were the only person with a message taped to my head and people were acting strange, I might feel Xenophobia (or at least a little self-conscious).

  20. My definition of xenophobia for this activity is fear of yourself or what was on your face. The ignore me one someone could have thought it was just them and they were an outsider, but it was just the card on their head i had laugh at whatever i said so that was fun.

  21. The definition of xenophobia is the fear of the unknown, the card activity didn't really make me think about the definition because I figured out what it said right after talking to the first person. Emotions to connect in terms of science fiction would be curiosity, being afraid, terrified, nervousness.

  22. Xenophobia is defined as the fear of the unknown. During the card activity, I felt this fear in the form of anxiety and paranoia. This fear was caused by not knowing what was on the card which I eventually figured out said "agree with me". Xenophobia has always been a major theme both in Science Fiction and in the course of human history. Xenophobia will always be a major theme in Science fiction because with new technology comes the fear of it being misused i.e Lasers.

  23. My definition of xenophobia is the fear of the unknown. The card game helped me realized the want to know who you are in society. The term xenophobia and science fiction go hand and hand because of the general fear of anything in science fiction books or other films. The card i had was "ask my opinion" and it was kind of easy to understand after awhile because of the kind of questions i was getting were do you like this or what do you think of that kinds of questions.

  24. My definition of xenophobia is the fear of other people that are unknown to you. Xenophobia connected with the card activity because people were scared of the card they had gotten, and scared of people reactions to your card. My card was "Ignore me!" my card made me feel really awkward and unwanted and I did not know why. Xenophobia is how we feel about aliens.

  25. To me xenophobia is discriminating and sometimes exiling or ostracizing a person, group, or thing based on their characteristics of their look and ideas. During the card activity I did feel all of those things based on the way others acted around me and I did the same to others which makes me just as bad. this can connect to science fiction because maybe you discriminate someone who rivals your beliefs and this could be turned into a story.

  26. Xenophobia is fear and dislike of people or things that are different from the norm. In other words, fear of the unknown. Science fiction is all about unknown ideas and wild extrapolations, so xenophobia and science fiction are commonly assosiated with each other. The card activity made me feel confused and like an outcast. My card read "dont look at my face" The activity showed me what it feels like to be a victom of xenophobia.

  27. Xenophobia is the irrational fear and possible hatred for the unknown. The card activity triggered feelings of dissatisfaction and slight anxiety. My card read "Nod at me!" which most people did, allowing me the time to observe the reaction of others, as well. This experiment shows that all people have certain reservations that become apparent in such settings. Xenophobia is incorporated in various works of science fiction since this genre often concentrates on the unknown and how a future change will affect the people.

  28. In the card activity my card was "ignore me." This made me feel bad because I tried to talk to others and they just ignored me. I think xenophobia is trying to understand the unknown and the fear of being around others. The class activity helped me to understand that.

  29. My definition of Xenophobia is the extreme fear (phobia) of the foreign. Now this doesn't have to be a person but can also be a culture, tradition or just a foreign type of thinking. This is also not only limited to nationality but region and also just the way you are brought up. The card I got was to Nod at me, I've lived in many places so most weird behavior doesn't really make me feel scared or disturbed, but if I was one of the people who had gotten the card of ignore me I feel like I would have felt left out and out of the loop, I think I would have figured out the card but during the time when I wouldn't have known what was happening I would have definitely felt kind of hurt.

  30. Xenophobia is a irrational fear and discrimination of something or someone that is different from yourself. The card game showed this theme because it made people react to you differently than you would expect. It gave me a small view of what xenophobia feels like.
