Extrapolation And Future Schools In 2052?

Now that you have read many of your peers' Future School Extrapolation Projects, what are you thinking?  Holistically, what are your reasonable extrapolations regarding all of the extrapolations you have read?  What potential changes excite you the most?  What potential changes fill you with angst and apprehension?  Other thoughts?

  1. The most common future school advancements were the teachers and cell phones. The teachers were either holograms or robots. The cell phones were very thin screens or holographic. I think that some of the cars that fly and that don't fly excite me the most because I love cars. I worry that technology will take over everything and humans won't even be able to breath on our own. One thing that I would change is the rapid advancement of technology. Some projects had things that were very possible and others had things that didn't even make sense.

  2. In many of the future school projects, there was a common theme of technology in the classroom. Nearly everyone said tablets would replace books, pencils and paper. A few mentioned that teachers would be used less for teaching and more for simply maintaining order. Another common theme was what the schools would look like. They will be made of steel and class and look very clean and maintained. Learning would all be digital and there would be far less trouble with bad grades. The schools of 2052 truly sound like a sight to behold.

  3. What I noticed about the Future Schools Projects was that a lot of people concentrated more on the thought process of the students rather than the technology itself. Others concentrated more on the process of how that came to be, and the situation and politics rather than on the school. Some though, had very good extrapolation, and had a lot of details about the schools in the future and technology that will be used to help children be educated. The projects, for the most part, were very good and well written, and most of the students in this class really understood what you were asking for.

  4. The extrapolation projects were definitely creative and no two were alike. One common theme was the elimination of paper and textbooks. This is a reasonable and exciting extrapolation because it is always cool to see the amazing advancements in the technology we have now. Another theme among the projects was the lack of teachers and personal interaction. This is a good extrapolation, but it is not right direction to go in. Personal interaction with people is very important; especially teachers. There were very (if any) new ideas that were unique to just one of the projects, which is disappointing because it shows a lack of individualism (something that is lacking in this society and may become non-existent in 40 years).

  5. While going around reading others' projects, I noticed that most of them had the same ideas. Unfortunately, a lot of them were pretty much the exact same things we have going for us right now. One person mentioned that everything will be done on a computer. We are already really close to that. That idea wasn't really out there. Others were out there, but they didn't really make me take them seriously. They didn't make me excited to see this become possible. These ideas were ones such as the floating desks, which is a really cool idea but doesn't really pertain to the learning environment too much. Overall, I thought this project was a really cool way to show where our heads are concerning the future and I wish that I could have seen more.

  6. I am thinking about how different the future of school could be. It is crazy to think that some of the things listed in the projects could be actual reality. Mine were very similar to many others. I noticed hover cars and transportation was a constant trend. The changes that excite me the most is having computer desks where we can do all of our work on the desk and also having a digital copy of everything. Some changes that fill me with angst and apprehension is not having a teacher in the classroom. I do not think that I would like that because I really enjoy having the company of teachers and also I think they are really important to our learning environment. I really liked all of the projects, they all were so creative. The ideas that I saw made me really think about what life could be like in the future.

  7. The trends that are apparent are the use of robots in everyday life. In almost every presentation the use of futuristic technology is used. One of the most reasonable extrapolations is that teachers have become absolute and there are other means of teaching such as hologram and robot teachers. Another trend is that most vehicles have been replaced by hover cars. The potential change of an alien invasion makes me worry for the future. The teliportation device is what I am most excited for.

  8. The most common extrapolation I saw was that someday teachers will be replaced by robots, which is a reasonable thought because we have internet and books and access to almost any information, teachers will become obsolete. The idea that scared me most was that we would someday have to take a pill to increase our brain function because of changes to our Earth cause by humans.

  9. As I walked through the gallery of Future School Projects I noticed the trend that, school buses are not going to exist and most cars and forms of transportation is going to be fueled by hydrogen and schools with not have any more textbooks. Schools in 2012 are already beginning to not have texts books, so in 2052 all school students will be provided with a tablet so read and have electronic textbooks on. As I walked through I also noticed that buildings of schools would dramatically changed to make learning more efficient. Some ideas that excited me the most would be the change in cell phones and technology because there are many good cell phone companies and they are all looking at a way to improve their product, whether to make them transparent, more thin, or faster. The changes that fill me with the most apprehension are all these advancements in technology. Even though it is fascinating that tablet can now we flexible, however we didn’t think of any other ideas that help with other problems around the world. My thoughts on the schools in 2052 is that technology is going to change and so is the way we are taught in school, there are not going to be anymore books or library’s. Reading a book is going to be a foreign concept.

  10. The various projects show that although things will change in the future, variety will still exist. Several reasonable extrapolations include the evolving mode of transportation and the different material that will be utilized to build and create. The potential changes that bring the most excitement involve an increase in comfort and reliability, such as the new chairs and the homework cubicle. Feeling of angst and apprehension arise when the data is assimilated and it becomes apparent that the setting will ultimately be different and the world will not be as we know it. This observation means that we would need to constantly learn new things, technological or cultural, and preserving today's traditions can prove to be an impossible task.

  11. Now that I have read a good amount of the “School in 40 Years” papers, I think the most potential change that excited me the most was that students might not have homework. I think the one thing that I didn’t really care for was more academics in the future, when I think we already have enough in school today. I think that if we took teachers out of the learning process and replaced them with animated, helping text books, students would be able to learn through each other instead of just sitting down listening to a teacher talk for multiple hours in a day. All in all I think that my grandkids would love the future that we have dreamed of these past couple of days.

  12. The most common thing I saw as an extrapolation was the lack of paper and how everything was digital. Everything from school lunches to the smart board was all touch screen and very high tech and fast. I also saw in a couple that schools were getting privatized. I think it is a reasonable extrapolation because if schools don't get the funding they need, they will need to come up with the money somehow. I think making high school the new college would be an undesirable step, but one that i can see being taken. Another thing i frequently noticed was how people got to school. It was still almost always some sort of public transportation offered by the school like a bus system, just with a lot more technology thrown into the mix. I think it is reasonable, but if the schools do loose funding like a saw, I don't really see that being feasible to maintain, especially if they will start to be upgraded with technology, which as we know is by no means cheap.

  13. A lot of what science fiction teaches us is that technology and human life will be dramatically enhanced and a lot of that was presented in our projects by things like robots for teachers, easy and fast transportation, etc. One thing i noticed in almost every project is that education, for the most part, will stay the same. Everyone said that we will still learn math, science, etc, but in different ways. No one really knows for sure what the future will bring or what it will look like but science fiction gives us a fairly good example through literature and other ideas.

  14. Many of these projects held similar ideas and topics. Almost all of the projects that I looked at stated that there would be no pencils or paper. Another thing many projects had in common was that all students had a personal tablet like computer that all work was done on along with digital text books. I think that if these ideas came true that education as a whole would be better. The ability to access all school materials in one place quickly and easily would make it much easier to stay organized. Some of the class projects seemed to be a little unrealistic and out there but none of the ideas that I saw were totally out of the realm of possibility.

  15. After reading my peers projects about school in the year 2052 here are my thoughts. Most of the things I read said that the desks are going to be differnt now. Some said they would float and some said they would be more comfortable. i dont really see the first thing happeninig but i see the second thing happening desks could be alot more comfortable. I also noticed the trend that alot of it had to do with sports too for. Sports seemed to be a very high trend in all of the papers even my own . Another intresting trend i saw was no text books it was all electronic or nonexistant. The last trend i was was alot of people said that there would be no more writing but typeing or somthing but no more paper. All of theise interesting trends i can actually see happening in the future

  16. When I walked around, the trends I noticed was that most people thought about practically thought that same things for the future. People thought that the future would consist of no text books and that everything would be on a tablet of some sorts. But what really excited me for the future was that some people thought that cars would turn into hover crafts. I really thought that, that was a cool idea. People have cool ideas about the future and I'm excited about the future now.

  17. The most major trend I saw was that every project predicted improvement of technology. Forty years from now, all of these projects said that technology will have significantly increased. I definitely agree with this, considering the rate at which it's advancing every day. A few short years ago, something like an iPad would have probably been thought to be impossible by many in our society, and today we'll see ten year old's carrying them around. Also, lots of projects said that pencils and paper will be removed, and that things will be made more comfortable. On a positive note, I saw lots of evidence to suggest our society will be much more world friendly as the years go by, because we won't be using as much paper or other materials like that. To sum it up, I saw the trend that things in the future will be much more convenient and easier to deal with. Computers make work more organized, having no teacher saves money, and not using paper makes things easier to grade and turn in. The future seems to be headed towards being taken over by technology where it does all the work instead of us.

  18. Many of the extrapolations that I've seen are fairly realistic. A lot of students considered the possibility of paper and pencil being completely replaced by computer. The projects seemed well thought out and organized. One of the problems in extrapolating future events is that certain developments are almost impossible to predict, like the internet. The introduction of the internet makes a lot of science fiction Utopian novels seem much less likely to take place. Besides the change to computers from paper and pencil, another trend I noticed was that teachers were seen as extra, and not essential to the learning environment. Schools seemed to be larger due to population growth, but overall, the education received seems to have improved. I enjoyed this project, and found it interesting to see the different directions that people took this idea..

  19. When I had walked around the room looking at other people's extrapolations, I noticed that many of their ideas were close or identical to my ideas. It seems to me that we have a stereotypical idea of what the future is supposed to be like. For instance, really cool looking buses that appear to have no place for fuel. Not that that's a bad idea, I think its really cool, but why would the government spend that much money on school then? They certainly aren't now, and I don't see the advancements of the U.S. getting any better than they are now. Another thing I saw was that a lot of the ideas that I saw were not really realistic or even practical. Solar panels where you didn't need them, storing stuff in places where you couldn't get to them easily...they were good ideas, but they were really expensive and not very practical for the average family of the mid 21st century...I thought that over all the people in this class had some pretty good ideas, but our entire social structure would have to change in order for these things to start to take shape.

  20. What I saw in all the projects I looked at was technology. In the projects the students all have some kind of technology with them in class helping them to learn. In some cases the technology is the teacher and the human teachers are removed from their duties of teaching the class. I also saw a lot of technology advancements outside the world of school like hoover buses and hoover boards that the kids can take to school. That makes me wonder if there's going to be hoover cars 40 years in the future so every human will be able to have one. The absence of teachers in the classroom scares me the most because of the absence of another human being in the same class that is older then you and is wiser then the student. The human teacher makes sure the students are focused and ready to learn, without them I don't know if the students would be ready.

  21. After reading most of the future school projects. A common idea showed up, there will be no hard copies of anything, and that everything will be used, and transferred through the internet. A lot of the projects concentrated on the idea of extrapolation, by the politics of school, besides the features and technology we will have.

  22. As i walked around the room i noticed that almost everyone had the same ideas. Most of the teachers will be gone and tablets that can fold up and fit anywhere. I think the coolest idea I saw was the virtual classroom that moves but you do not. Some of the ideas I saw are from movies and books. Everyone has the same image of th future; flying cars, holograms. But is our present what people expected 50 years ago? People probably thought we would have flying cars but we do not. The problem with all the robot teachers is the fact that robot could run our world and they are not even humans.

  24. Most projects showed that books and paper would be replaced by computers that students will use for school. Some projects showed that students will learn from getting their brain plugged into a computer and will “upload” the lesson to the student’s brain. Few projects showed that students will take a pill daily that will enhance the brain’s function and learning. Changes that will excite me the most are the computers that will replace books and paper. This is also the most likely change that will occur in school. Most of these ideas will eventually happen within the next 40 years.

  25. Something that I experienced in each of these extrapolation projects is the new technology and new way of learning the future may hold for the human race. my only concern is all of us are thinking very positive. This is a concern because we have no preparation for the world maybe not being perfect or having new technology. It could have been very interesting if someone followed through with looking at the negative of the future. I also admire how detailed most peoples outlooks on the technology was, mainly because they used some of the technology now except for improved. I look forward to seeing these possible technologies come to life as I get older.

  26. What I noticed about all the projects is the similer yet different ideas for the authority and the material for schools. Teachers and staff have been replaced by robots and computers that are programed to answer questions and be friendly for a good learning enviornment. The pencils, books, and paper were replaced by one single advanced computer that is installed into the desk/ is the desk. There are also new faster more effecient both in speed and fuel for modes of transportation like buses, trains, and teleporters. So all in all I feel that all these extrapolations were extreamly creative and well thought out.

  27. Many projects I saw stated that all paperwork will be replaced with computer(As a nature freak I like this idea quite a bit). Some of the projects I saw also had homework completely removed as a way to reduce stress on the students.Surprisingly few of the projects I saw had the teacher removed from the classroom. The removal of paper and homework are the most likely changes to happen. The removal of paper is a process already in the making. The idea of paper removal has been around since the 80s so it's nothing new in a modern world. The removal homework has a 50/50 chance. Homework no matter how hated it is, is a need chore for students. Homework is more review than anything else, its meant to keep us from forgetting what we learn that day. almost all the thing I saw today has impressive chance to happen , no matter how far fetched they may seem. time is like ocean we can't control it, we can only ride out and hope for the best. Time is unknowable but thats all the fun about it!

  28. I think people have many different ideas about the future, but all of them have similar ideas. Technology will continue to increase in complexity, because that is what people today are putting money into and improving (Cell phones, computers, and cars are what people are buying most and are most interested in improving,so obviously these three things will be greatly improved in 40 years). Other technological gadgets and devices will be invented to make our life easier(one presentation I saw spoke of droids to do our homework and eye contacts that can help us see what other students are writing). I am excited for these technological advances that will make our lives easier. I am apprehensive about one possible idea I saw- in the future, "school" could be hooking our brain up to wires and injecting knowledge. That was a scary thought. In the same presentation, it mentioned that emotions were unimportant, and they had found a way to get rid of emotions altogether. This thought scares me! What is humanity without emotions?! We might as well all be robots.
I saw some creative extrapolations and some scary ones. Let's hope the change in the next 40 years is for the better of our race and planet.

  29. After reading many of the extrapolations expressed in class, there were a few that reoccurred frequently. Almost all of the extrapolations depict future classrooms being more technologicly connected. One common example of this is the extrapolation that in 2052, students will use tablets insted of pens and paper or maybe even have desks that are the tablets. This seemes like a reasonable prediction because this is the trend that is going on in schools today. It is vary difficult to predict the future due to the fact that the rate at which we develop technology fluctuates and no one can predict if we will have a growth spert or stay allmost the same.

    ReplyDelete
  30. In the future schools will be run by technology. Most projects showed technology expanding into teachers, transportation, and homework. This makes sense to me. In the last 50 years technology not only increase, but increased so rapidly that it left some generations puzzled on what to do. At the rate our society has developed technology, I believe that our schools will be invaded by artificial life.

    ReplyDelete
  31. After looking at the different projects, I saw that most of them had the same general idea. The way we imagine the world in 2052 seems to be almost completely technologically based. From the fast rate and large amount of advancements in technology during our generation, we can extrapolate the amount of technologic improvement there will be by 2052.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I think that the new learning equipment would be really cool like touch screen desks no homework was also something i saw that seemed cool. And teachers being replaced by robots or other things. i could see some benefits but i can also see some things wrong with doing that what if the robot went crazy.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I think that the increase of technology in our school systems and the decrease of teacher involvement are two extremely interesting points made primarily because these situation are becoming prevalent in our schools today.

    ReplyDelete
  34. The increase in technology will not only change our schools but also our society. I feel that the learning environment will be based mainly on technology and that paper texts will no longer exist. I think there will be robots that will help assist people around homes, there will be much less of a need for teachers.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Most of the projects included the major adavancment of technology. Alot of the people mentioned a lot of things that did not really make me to excited about the future technology, many ideas were the same, and were not to far out there. Besided maybe the floating desks, or homework pods. But neither of those seemed like they were reasonable.

  36. Now that ive seen what the technology could be like in 2052 and what humans are capable of and how technology will change all of our lives, however we cant tell if its for the better or for the worse because we already see now that technology is taking over life but what excited me is that technolgy would be used in classrooms instead of books
