How are technology scinece and science fiction merging based upon your google reader subscriptions?  Please reflect in class on 9-23-11.

I read about some nike shoes that tie themselves, this shows extrapolation because these shoes were already made up in movies and now they have been made in real life. This shows how we are advancing in technology even in this simple area.

  2. I read an article about the new facebook and that connects to me and most people in this class because they have and use facebook. Facebook is something that keeps us updated with not only our friends but the world around us.

  3. Dustin R said.... I read the article about the new thing that is being tested that can measure the levels of pain some one is in. I thought this was interesting because many people fake pain for a prescription.

  4. Science fiction and technology science are merging because what we didn't think was possible is now becoming possible like the pain detector. There is a new technology out that can detect how much pain someone is feeling.

  5. I read an article about using an algorithm to find how much pain someone is in.This would take out some human error when determining and illness or prescribing medicine. Although this does not relate directly with the stories we have read, it does relate to extrapolation because doctors are taking a common problem and trying to solve it.

  6. I read about shoes that tie themselves. I feel like that, the story really doesn't relate to anything we have read so far but i feel like that in the future that things like that are very possible to happen sooner then later in life! I cannot wait to see when my kids are in high school to see how technology has changed the world as we know it now.

  7. so when i was looking at popular science, i found technology that found so many new things. A microscope hat for a mouse, technology the can take brain cell pictures and images and see what movie they watched. A bluish purple rose, a planet like tattoine that orbits around 2 suns. Its amazing, but its very curious how it took them so long to figure out how to do this.
Things like robots with fingerprints, and duplicating red blood cells with a 3d printer

  8. The newest technology is the dreams of past writers come true. I read a story about scientists regulating animals hibernation, giving people the ability to lower animals heart rate and how much oxygen an animal needs. This can allow animals to live in harder conditions successfully whereas a animal not hibernating cannot. This in itself could become the next great science fiction story in how we use this in the future. -EliB.

  9. The merging between our technology and science fiction was certainly seen in the articles everyone read today. It seems like some of the stories we've read have elements in them that are more like our reality now rather than fiction. Authors' extrapolations of what is to come have proved true in some instances whereas there are others that have not, perhaps will not, come true. For example, as we discussed earlier, Fahrenheit 451 takes place between the 90's and 2000's, a time that has already passed. Based on what predictions we've seen turn into reality in science fiction, who's to say that we won't live in a world seen in Bradbury's writing someday?

  10. Current technology and science fiction are merging in several different ways. On my google reader subscriptions, there are many new technological advancements or theories that reflect several themes in science fiction. One that I found interesting was an article about a new machine that records brainwaves to create a picture of what an individual is thinking about. I think that certain themes in scifi are so prominent and popular that science/technology evolve to follow them.

i red a article about animal birth control. it says that with animals and humans increasing in population we need to control how an animal can get pregnant and have baby's. its just a form of population control just as humans have but humans have a choice to take it animals will not it will be brought into there water and food supply.

  12. They are merging because technology is advancing in its own ways. Science fiction is the story that tells us about that. They are a lot alike in their own ways because science fiction talks about the future and new technology is the future, to most people. We can chose what we do with technology and whether we chose to improve that, that is our choice. We have predicted that technology will be the future, but we don't know exactly what will happen with that. Overall i think they merge together in their own ways and tell us a story of the future.-Taylor Seyfer

  13. I would connect the painometer that i read about to almost all of the stories we read because in all of the stories we read technology took away from people's freedom. This painometer will do the same thing (even though its probably a good thing) by making it so doctors dont have to just believe people by how much pain they say they have. This will make it so people cant lie to get medication they dont need.

  14. I read about a new technology that allows scientists to essentially read minds by monitoring brain waves. This doesn't necessarily connect to any stories we have read, but mind reading has always been an ability that humanity has attempted to attain.

  15. the advancement of technology is causing man-kind to be lazy and unnatural. materialism will soon make the world go round. people will soon be so engulfed with themselves and their "toys", that we will eventually lose what makes us human.

  16. Technology science and science fiction are merging because the ideas we thought centuries ago are beginning to come reality and we are starting to use these inventions in our daily lives. I always wonder when I think about this subject, is how people would think about world today if they saw their ideas expanding from one small idea into a greater idea.

  17. I read an article about waking squirrels from hibernation and then making them rehibernate. This shows that the more and more technology we have the closer we get to the technologies of the science fiction stories. It's interesting to think that we could possibly have humans hibernate which could be an interesting idea for a science fiction story.

  18. Science fiction is starting to be more realistic because ideas that we had in the past are starting to come true. From my google reader subscription I found out that there are many new scientific advancements made all the time. People take old ideas that we used to dismiss as fictional, and they turn them into real life tools and objects. Science fiction helps us to think about the future.

  19. The article had no connections on what we read but there is an electric bike that is ideal of city but can be used on long distance rides. The bike is not a motor cycle and doesn't look like a motor cycle. Just looks like a regular bike. Helps going over hills ect.

  20. In the future I see that people will not have back problems. I read about how Payton Manning went to Europe because they have a back cell treatment. I also see that people will get lazy because of shoes that tightened themselves without you doing anything. I can't wait to see what the future brings us.

  21. Things previously imagined in science fiction have become more reality, or at least a possibility. On Google reader the article about getting airships over Afghanistan just made me think about stories of government control. Things like that are now easily possible and happening. We're even watching other countries. Lots of science fiction has to do with future government and humanity, this article just kind of shows what government is like.

  22. i read a article about how the military is in need of more helium for... you guessed it, aeroships (blimps).I did not even realize we still used blimps today but i guess the military is steering back towards the idea of blimps for reconnaissance in places like, Iraq, or Afghanistan. when i read the title of this story i immediately thought of extrapolation, who knows, maybe in 10 years their will be a "Aero Carrier"

  23. I read about how people are cloning a pig. I feel like this could be a problem later. they could start to clone people

  24. The technology in science is getting realistic to science fiction technology. For example; the Nike shoes from, 'Back-to-the-Future' are coming out. The same look, technology within the shoe to make it fit specifically to you. This reminds me of, 'Sales Pitch' by how they are advertising and WANTING people to buy their product.

  25. Science fiction is all about technology and it's abilities. In the facebook article, it talked about all the changes that are happening on facebook. It's new technology which is what science fiction is; the changes and discoveries of what is happening in the world.

As i read "Mind-Reading Tech Reconstructs Videos From Brain" it had no relevancy to what we are reading in class, however the way it is extrapolated shows that it has potential to be a big thing in the future. The technology is showing how it read's a memory that was stored in someone's brain the movie scene was reconstructed into a fuzzy version just off ememory
