"Future School" Extrapolation Project Reflections

Now that you have read many of your peers' Future School Extrapolation Projects, what are you thinking?  Holistically, what are your reasonable extrapolations regarding all of the extrapolations you have read?  What potential changes excite you the most?  What potential changes fill you with angst and apprehension?  Other thoughts?

  1. many of the schools didnt have teachers, or paper. it was all technology and cyberspace. people hardly had a school, just personal needs. everyone had programs in their clothes, and there were laptops and things in the desks. it seemed almost impossible.this is gretchen

  2. The students in my class were very creative when it came to this project! I saw the cliché flying bus idea but I also saw some new ideas such as aliens being involved in the schools, teachers teaching through computers. There was talking of new means of transportation and I saw some new types of computer and note technology. There were great ideas around the class and I liked so many of the presentations!

  3. I think people didn't pay much attention to logistics of the project. It was set 50 years in the future which would be 2061 and people put 2051 only 40 years. Easy simple mistake to make so it wouldn't be a big deal really. There was one group though that only typed a short paragraph and in that small amount of typing they contradicted themselves. It said that you would have to take a flying bus to school and 3 sentences later that there will be elevators that take you to the school. So there were just some simple logistical errors and some that didn't look like much time was spent on them. I would say that for the most part they were pretty good projects.

  4. When looking at the all projects it was very interesting to see what everybody thought schools were gonna be like in the future. I felt like almost everybody had a different idea about how future schools would be like. Though, there we lots of similar ideas. Many people didn't think that there would be paper in schools anymore, everything based on technology. As well as transportation to and from school has changed dramatically compared to what we think it is now. I personally don't think that most of that will happen. I feel like wont happen as much as school using more technology.

  5. i feel like there were only a few presentations that were remotely creative. most of them accumulated around the idea of highly advanced technology. it would have been more interesting if people thought outside of the box. for example, one presentation talked about schools competing with other life forms. personally, i thought that was pretty unique. science fiction and extrapolation is more than the common prediction of the future.

  6. The idea of hovercars, hoverbusses, or hoverboards. It sounds awesome but it also is the least likely invention to be possible. Countless people have tried to invent something that can float on the air like that in movies but it would be incredibly hard to do. The most common kind technology advances i found were no teachers, and no more books just computers or tablets. I feel like this will happen (maybe the tablet/laptop idea more than the robot idea) because today we are already making robots and tablets are booming right now.

  7. The most reasonable extrapolations are those dealing with the change in classroom set up and limited change in technology. The possibility of schools being able to transfer knowledge into our brains is not very high, but the requirement of laptops, Ipads, or kindles seems a lot more likely. The most exciting changes to me are the computers that every student must have and the downloadable content available to students. The scariest changes are the ideas of schools being able to track their students or the lack of teachers. I feel that if students did not have a teacher the quality of their work and dedication would diminish.

  8. Victor P.said School was changed in the sense where technology replaces basic resources such as advanced computers replacing textbooks. Even food and transportation was made more advanced having shuttle bases taking you off campus or a food pill that you just add water to and it grows.

  9. While looking around at the different future school projects, they were all good but some were very creative in how they were presented. One of the projects was presented as a story from the future and it had characters with names as numbers. This stood out to me because it was different and really fit in with science fiction. Another project that I saw had lots of pictures and the information wasn't too heavy. By using pictures that captures readers and got me interested right away.

  10. I noticed that a lot of people talked about how the future schools will have a lot more advanced technology. People focused on transportation, desks, and robotic teachers. I think that everyone (including me) could have gone even further with what the schools would be like or take it in a different direction or a different angle. I thought that all the extrapolations were reasonable and could easily happen in the future. They are pretty realistic. I hope that we do have a school in the sky one day! I saw a lot schools with really awesome architecture.

I think that the future school is a good idea but a little dramatized because schools have changed technology wise but the teaching fundamentals have not changed. The thing i like though is the students run the class and teachers only help if needed. The only thing i would change is that teachers dont have a job. i think that school will change but the classroom and school design will stay the same like Arapahoe its looked the same for a long time.

  12. I think that this future schools project was really interesting. Before mr. Trotter said this about the future, i never really thought about what the future would be like for any of us. Most of the future schools projects said things like robots for teachers and computers for textbooks. i saw one really cool project that was typed in all symbols but then on the computer it was letters; that really made me think because i would have never thought of anything like that in my lifetime. overall i think this project was really good for all of us,because it really makes you think.

  13. While i was looking at some projects I kept seeing ideas about no paper a lot of technology and either the teacher was in a computer or completely gone. I am most excited about all of the technology that schools have. I don't have anything to dislike like about the future of schools.

  14. After reading some of the presentations in class, I noticed some similarities. Most projects showed that they thought that in 40 years, we will not use paper at all. Each student having a laptop was the prominent idea of how work will be done in 2051. I also noticed that many of the projects expressed the idea that teachers will not be needed or not needed as much. Instead, there would be robots, teacher projections, or a classroom run by the students to meet their own needs. I thought that the projects were really great. I thought on some of them went a little to far to be reasonable in my mind. I thought there were a lot of great ideas and people really put some thought into it. -Eli B.

  15. After reading my classmates Future School Extrapolation Projects, I have concluded that the implanting of computer communication devices is a reasonable extrapolation. One other project I looked at included implanting a device like mine into the student's arms. A change that excites me is the use of holograms. This would be much more interactive, and as a student, becoming more interactive would be a great way to learn. A change that fills me with angst is the robots becoming teachers. I am weary of this because robots are not interactive. I also would critique some of the subjects that will be provided in the schools. I believe there will be a lot more information available and the classes that will be provided won't cover this information.

  16. It seems that although many students have creative ideas, many of them are also very alike (this isn't a bad thing!) This is probably because of the type of futuristic world we've seen since we were younger in television, movie, books, etc. Out of all the ones I have read, I think the extrapolation that is most realistic and most likely to actually happen is paper being taken out of classrooms. Although by that time, I'm not quite sure we'll even be using laptops anymore as many of us suggested in replacement of paper. I really like the thought of no paper, though, because it would prevent students from losing assignments and they'll always have everything they need with them. I also like the idea of using holographic technology to teach rather than using dry-erase boards/Smart boards. The one change seen in the majority, if not, all presentations about robot teachers worries me a little bit. While this robotic technology could be very useful, I'm not sure that an entire school should be run by robots.

  17. After reading many of the other future school projects, i feel like there are many high expectations of the future, which i find awesome. But also for some of the projects there was a lack of excitement and creativity. Many people made minor changes from now to the future. One project I saw had listed the school curriculum and it was all the same as we have now. I believe that the education we have now, was very different from the education in 1960's. Which would mean in the year 2061 there will definitely be advances in the technology and education.Something that scares me that everyone said in their projects was the fact there are no teachers in the future. This scares me because i want to be a teacher and it looks like in 50 years that will not be an option.

  18. What most excites me that i saw on some of the ideas were that their are no teachers. I cant be sure yet if that would be helpful or harmful. One thing i feel is going to be harmful is having a online rigorous gym classes, i don't see how this would work because people could slack so easily. Also most of the schools would b a lot larger than most other schools so the hallways would b a lot larger, so i think that maybe a new edition of an elevator would help make the hallways quicker and cleaner!

  19. I noticed that many of the presentations had schools with class rooms and supplies that were personalized to the student. I think that this is a very reasonable extrapolation because schools have become more focused on the needs of the students and I think that this is a trend that will most likely continue. The potential changes that excite me the most are how many classes might have more technology, like computers the students get to keep and touch screen desks to use instead of paper. Extrapolations that give me the most apprehension are how many people thought that the only people in the class rooms will be the students and there will not be any more teachers. This concerns me because I think that teachers will always be relevant in classes because they can help students with problems in ways that computers or other students cannot.

  20. There were a lot of interesting extrapolations butt the most reasonable ones were the ones that deal with setup changes in the classroom. Schools providing technology would be exciting to me. and also being taught by robots would be crazy. Also if schools could track students that would be scary in my opinion.

  21. As I went throughout the circle and watched and read other peoples projects, I noticed similar ideas between them. I found that almost every project I saw had students having their own personal laptop to use for school. Their was even a group that had computers implanted into students arms. Many of the groups also didn't have a human being as a teacher, they had robots that would teach the lessons. There was also some very unique ideas such as being able to change the color of the walls at a single touch and having different kinds of food that you can find all around world brought to students for lunch. Overall I think our class did a wonderful job with this project.

  22. In the presentations i mostly saw people bringing up how the teachers no longer have jobs because all people are taught by robots. i also saw alot of people talking about how much technology has advanced.

  23. I think that the future schools project was a good idea and gives new ideas about how schools may be in 2051. Some projects were a little over exagerated with their ideas but all the ideas were good ones. I think it would be a little weird if there was robot teachers also. Many people would be out of jobs.

  24. My thinking of the Future School Extrapolation project is not very futuristic as I thought it would be. The is reason that there was very few advancements in the school. What excited me the most was that everyone can use laptops in all the classes except P:E: of course. The potential changes that fill me is that the ideas of the future school could happen.

  25. I thought the Future School Project was a good idea because we all had great ideas and they were all somehow different than each other's. What I mainly saw was the transportation to school was advanced. No one thought of keeping buses or cars that drove on the ground, almost every one thought of the students in the future having vehicles that would fly the kids to school. I think that was really cool because we all have the dream to fly, but not just flying on a plane every once in awhile but on a daily basis. Another thing that I saw a lot of was that robots are replaced for teachers and they would teach us in the class room. I can't decided if I like that idea because of the movie irobots, but I did put that in my project because it is an idea you would think for the future, robots.

  26. Many of the future schools had gotten rid of teachers, and replaced them with either robots or holograms. Another thing that many chose to write about it that the school day would be a lot shorter. The last extrapolation that many students chose to write about was that we no longer need to carry around huge backpacks. We have computers and other devices that help us to keep track of all of our papers and assignments. I am very excited about the fact that we would not have to carry around giant backpacks, and also that our classes would be a lot shorter. Those two things would make life much easier and more enjoyable. Something i am not looking forward to is that some said that school would be all technology and no paper. Technology usually has mess ups every now and then, so if our school did not use paper anymore, then I would probably have a more difficult time in school. Something that I noticed with some of the future school projects is that some students chose to make some things unbelievable. This is not really extrapolation, it is just making ideas up. Other than that, the project was interesting and many people came up with good ideas.

  27. When walking around in the little circle viewing other people's project about schools. One thing I notice was that in 50 years there will be much more advance technology for classrooms. For example; using iPads instead of pens/pencils and paper. They also had either a robot or a software that was your teacher instead of an actual human being. If you look back on how things were like, sure there is a huge difference. But for me I don't think we'll have so much technology that most kids are saying that we might have in 50 years. Before we talked about flying cars and still no flying cars. I think it might be the same with schools. Yes, there will be changes but then again people can say many things but can they do it?

  28. I enjoyed the project, because it enabled people to be creative regarding their extrapolations. One project that especially grabbed my attention was the short story; in which people were assigned numbers instead of names and information, as well as opinion was censored. I think Science Fiction is a unique genre, because it allows people to be critical of their society without blatantly stating their apprehensions. As I read many of these projects it was interesting to see what concerned my peers about the future. Many projects discussed robots replacing teachers and flying contraptions, but the projects that intrigued me dealt with issues like censorship and individualism.

  29. I liked the project a lot because I feel like it gave us a lot of freedom to explore our own ideas and almost everyting that i saw was new and unique. i think this project allowed us to really think of the uknown and gave us the freedom to create a school of unknow technology and culture.what i noticed in the circle is people werent stoping to read a description but they would look at pictures and if they liked the pictures then maybey they would read to find out what it was and if it was a power point most people i think took some time to look at those
