Ordinances And E.T.?

After reading Denver Ordinance Article and Denver Ordinance 300, did you think of any Science Fiction short story or class connections? If you can incorporate quotations, reflect, challenge, or discern with keen insight, please do so in your blog response due Thur, November 14th.

  1. The Extraterrestrial affairs commision was a suggestion that was bound to be made. Human curiosity regarding intelligent life from space is natural, but attempting to spend government funds on research is a bit much in my opinion.

  2. I believe that all of these "aliens" people see are nothing but a bunch of made up stories and fuzzy images. No one really has seen an alien, there just isnt enough proof

  3. After reading the Denver Ordinance article, its interesting that that was put on the ballot. Their had to be a lot of people that signed for it to even be considered and it made it on. I wonder who started it and why? It makes me think about Frankinstien and how people want to almost create such things. Would our own Frankinstien be considered crazy or would the people who made it be considered crazy.

  4. No I did not think of any connections, but I would like to know if that photo was a trick of the light or staged, But if it proves to have a semblance of truth, why would Colorado itself build a UFO base or committee for extraterrestrials when all evidence of them existing on this planet is not clear.

  5. What I first thought about was the Muse story, how Colorado has the climate of what might have been in the story and shows what looks like a remote place in Colorado. Relating it more to the story, you could definitely tell the US military had defense/speak to's for the aliens and that they had built the bases up for the extra terrestrial life that would show up to earth. If Denver/Colorado built the UFO base, I believe it would be a decent idea, but not very necessary for an invasion.

  6. I think it is important to be prepared. However, an alien race capable of traveling to Earth would have incredible technology, and we would stand no chance against them if they had hostile intents. Even if they were peaceful, such an advanced civilization would likely have no reason to interact with a civilization so insignificant, in comparison, as ours. I don't think alien visitation is something we are able to prepare for, and the chances are so low that it is unnecessary to spend any money on it.

  7. I believe the idea was bound to happen for the pure fact that the unknown from space is a big topic, but spending government dollars on a small possibility is too much

  8. I think about xenophobia when I look at these articles because I see that the people are scared of the fact that aliens could be around. Also, the people are seeing aliens as a far-fetched idea and that they don't want to be associated with it. With the people voting 84.1% no for creating a commission to connect people with health and safety in regards to meeting extraterrestrial life, so this shows that a little xenophobia is shown through Denver. -Logan Lewis

  9. This made me think of the Twilight Zone episode where they think that there are aliens that come to their neighborhood and they all ban together to come after them but just end up killing each other. Maybe they could have used this ordinance

  11. A lot of people seem to assume that the government has always been hiding something from the people, and a lot of people believe that it is aliens. To see that the government has taken responsibility with a general belief of aliens, because I thought that most people would dismiss it as fake news. This reminds me of the X files show that we are currently watching because everyone seems to believe that there is an alien when it is probably going to end up being a person.

  12. I was surprised that the ordinance was on the ballot and I think it is also interesting how lopsided the votes were. I think that the vote serves a purpose but may have been misguided considering how little contact Earth has had with extraterrestrials and how space exploration seems to be very far on the horizon of what is scientifically realistic

  13. In these articles it talks about the possibility of Denver Colorado funding the creation of a UFO base. This reminds me of many articles we've read in class talking about the conspiracies of extraterrestrial being living among us. Lots of people do wonder what outer worldly beings could possibly be out there and if they are fake or if they are real.

  14. This potential ordinance connects to the science fiction units by showing our obsession, our fascination, if you will, with the concept of extraterrestrials. Both the bill and the stories are founded in the same belief, at least on some level, that we cannot be the only sentient species in existence. The bill also showed a direct contrast to xenophobia by proposing to create a welcome facility. However, if this was made a law, it would likely be flipped around and serve to explain to the public the irrationality of nearby alien species.

  15. This ordinance definitely reminds be of "Puppet Show". Just considering the (supposed) interaction between extraterrestrial life and humans. Many people oppose the idea while others support it - similar to Garvane's arrival in Cherrybell and the public's reaction to it. This leads me to wonder what actually would be the reaction if alien life was discovered and eventually interacted with.

  16. I think that the proposal is very dumb. Nobody is actually getting hurt by extraterrestrial life, so why would we need a commision for it. I am surprised so many people voted yes. It is just another unnecessary thing we need.

  17. I would say that im mixed on this topic, on one hand i would say yes we do need the Devner ordinace 300 but on the other i dont think it needs funding.

  18. i believe that the claims that alien are real is not true. I believe it's people who just want to be on tv or in the news. They just want to seen by people and they go to these extremes to do so. Like in the stories we have read when aliens or controling are messing with humans minds to get what they want.

  19. This article reminded me of the sci-fi story puppet show because both instances refer to extraterrestrial being come to Earth and humans having to go through the legal system to know what to do.The Colonel in the story says to the alien, "You know enough about us, obviously, you know that I can't make it." about whether or not Earth would like to join an intergalactic treaty organization. This is similar because it shows how the law and chain of command decide what we should do more than our own thoughts and ideas.

  20. This article can be connected to the idea of Xenophobia. Xenophobia is the idea of being afraid of other races. I think that this entire article shows what Xenophobia really is by talking about how we want to get rid of alien visitations.

Mayor Roger Claar's celebration at the failure of the ufo's mandate is understandable. It's public nature and extravagance wuldn't make it a good investment, but the nature of the funding should be from the government. Space exploration brings us together as a country and as a world, just like in the 60's in the space races
