Extrapolation And Future Schools In 2059?

Now that you have read many of your peers' Future School Extrapolation Projects, what are you thinking?  Holistically, what are your reasonable extrapolations regarding all of the extrapolations you have read?  What potential changes excite you the most?  What potential changes fill you with angst and apprehension?  Other thoughts?

  1. Most extrapolations of the future classroom environment involve advanced technology and robotics taking over. Imaginative technology is prominent like knowledge injections and AI. This all seems probable as tech is on the rise very quickly and we may even be able to live in these sort of fantasies. It excites me as well as fill me with dread as it will allow for speedy knowledge growth whereas if a robotic revolution were to take place it would be easy for them to do so.

  2. I noticed that most of the projects had computers doing the teaching instead of actual teachers. Some took that idea to the extreme, predicting that an all-seeing AI will supervise all learning. It's exciting that it will probably be easier to learn things in the future with the help of more advanced computers. There was one that predicted zombies and humans could go to school together, which, for me, is more than concerning. I'd love it if zombies stayed in the world of fiction. Aside from that, though, the predictions for the future seemed reasonable and and found great ways to use new technology.

  3. The presentations and the predicted futures of schools makes me envious for the predicted amount of no homework, no teacher, nap time and more advanced technology in classrooms. I personally believe it is a tie between the reinstatement of nap time, and the no homework that I am most envious that future schools may have.

  4. I think that the future will be mostly technological based. Technology will take over and it will be the main way of learning. People in the class seemed to think that robots were going to become teachers, and math and science are going to be the classes that stay the same. Since history and writing will change over time. I am excited to see what other inventions come to the world and what they will do for the benefit of the earth and the human race. I am scared that technology is going to take jobs away from humans we aren’t going to have a place or reason to be on the earth anymore. Technology is growing and changing so fast and it is exciting to see what scientists are coming up with next.

  5. From what I saw the main theme that people came up with was no paper. Only computers and tablets would be used which seemed to be the most common theme. One thing that made me apprehensive was thinking about the impact of social media today. To think in 40 years it could play an even bigger role than it does now. This means that from all the people who are consumed in phones, games, social media, ect. people may really begin to need help getting away from technology.

  6. Most extrapolations of future school still look to the future on the basis that class will still fundamentally function similarly today. Technology may replace current elements of the classroom, but philosophy that is the basis of the classroom rarely changes. I don't think it is bad, it is probably easiest to make extrapolations using the traditional classroom model as a base. An prediction that fills me with apprehension is robot teachers. I love the human element involved in teaching today particularly because if your teacher cannot have a sense of humor about the subject it drains all excitement from it.

  7. I noticed a lot of recurring themes such as computers and the all mighty nap time. I don't think that these will be in our future because by that time the new great technology will have come out, something we probably can't even imagine right now will be the new computer. I do like the idea of being able to put the knowledge in our heads through technology and not waste time in the classroom

  8. After reading a few of the presentations, I thought the elimination of teachers and paper products were some of the most reasonable extrapolations. I am excited for more creative outlets for learning such as project-based learning and a more open-ended method of schooling. The lack of a human teacher scares me, as a robot instructor would not be able to talk to students about anything other than school. I think having teachers as an emotional resource is a good thing. I think school should prepare students for a life where they use their skills in a meaningful way.

  9. Most of the potential changes surround a virtual schooling rather than a physical school which could be detrimental towards the socializing that young children need to adapt within the world we live in. Although I am kind of excited for the changes that will better the environment such as most computer use for notes rather than paper that will help the environment tremendously. I am excited to see how technology will advance, and how the world molds around that advancement

  10. What excited me the most was the idea of having walls that you could see through, for the fact that lockers would not be needed anymore. floating chairs for those who cant sit still.

  11. After reading everyone's thought on schools in the future the most common thing that I noticed was that everyone had the schools having robots as teachers. I really liked the idea of computers being put into the desk. I also love the thought of nap time being back in schools.

  12. While looking at the presentations, I saw many trends throughout them. The thing that I noticed was the most common was that there are no teachers. I think that this is interesting idea, but it would put many people out of jobs. I don’t feel that it would be the most ideal situation, but it makes sense. These teachers were either replaced with robots or holograms. I also saw that almost everything was computer or technology bases. I agree with this idea because every day technology is getting more advanced. I think this would be beneficial because there would be less stuff to carry around. I also noticed that many of them had nap time at all grade levels which is very interesting. I would say that nap time would beneficial, and be a nice thing to have.

  13. I think some of the more reasonable ideas were Less teachers and more tecno based learning. One thing i would be excited for is nap time, a decent couple of projects had that idea and I don't think it would be so bad. The idea that scares me is robot teachers, because if we give Ai too much knowledge I feel like there could easily be an uprising. even elon musk says we (humans) should be careful about the further advancement of AI

  14. From all of the projects that I saw, advanced technology was the prevalent in almost every one. The projects featured robots, virtual reality learning, and several times no paper curiculumns. I believe that in 40 years there will be several advances in technology that would make these possible. But there could be unknown dangers with these high-tech devices that could have terrible consequences.

  15. Personally, I think that a future school would be pretty cool. Not having to leave your house, nap time, having robot teachers to teach the material efficiently and faster etc. However, I think that school now is the best thing for future student as well. To have human interaction to leave about others, write and experiment with homework and subjects. I think I'm most excited to see how much things will change but it also scares me. I worry that kids wont experience the joys of having others around. They wont have empathy or experience any other emotion. Also having teacher robots. I feel like they won't be trust worry, be boring, and might take over humanity.

  16. Recurring themes include the prospect of advancing technology and transformations in the classrooms in regards to the material used and the things taught. Many students believe that the advancement in technology and the way that it affects the classroom will not make a positive impact on the future of education and its students. As I was looking through these presentations it was difficult to juxtapose the life I have today to the possibilities of one that I will have in the future. Many extrapolations didn't affect me too much, considering that we are already having advances worked into our classrooms. Although, one thing that had me quite nervous for the future, was the prediction that teachers would no longer be of use in the future. It is very well a possibility for the future, but it makes me think. What negative implications will this have on the developmental aspect of education? Human contact is extremely important for many when education is involved. When a human voice and face is teaching you things, it adds in the factor of emotion. Emotional intelligence is a big factor in what determines someone success. All of life is about reading emotions, facial expressions, and body language. Without those things, what is connection and learning?

  17. reading about school in the future was interesting to see that everyones was different but at the same time had some of the same reacurring ideas like nap time, desk computers,no teachers, no paper. Not only was the poject fun it got me excited

  18. One common extrapolation was the absence of teachers. In almost every project, there was either no or a different form of authority. One aspect that excited me was the use of more advanced technology like desks that were made entirely of tablets. I was also excited about the implementation of nap time and the importance each project put on mental health. There was little I was apprehensive about, as almost every extrapolation pointed to a better future.

  19. Honestly, I'm not sure how I feel about the future of schooling. On one hand, it could be a lot more efficient and thus the future kids will have more knowledge in less time. Hopefully, creativity will be emphasized more and more opportunities for different career paths will open up in high school. On the other hand, if schools become more technologically advanced then what's stopping kids from living a life of total isolation? It's becoming more common now to hide behind your phone and go out less likely, but how far will it get in the future? Overall, I'm fairly excited about what could be in our future, but I'm not sure how our outdated government will adjust to the new changes that are coming faster and faster everyday.

  20. Through exploring my peer's Future School Extrapolation Projects, I discovered a lot of different perspectives. A lot of extrapolations included the development of technology which would advance students education. I was most excited about the increase in self-care. School is often very stressful and the availability of more free time is a very positive thing. I am apprehensive of technology becoming to overpowering. The possibility of robots replacing humans is intimidating and would not be a positive thing.

  21. Schools look like they are heading towards technology. They will rid paper and physical work into digital forms with more online classes and a focus on how tech will impact the way school is run versus how we learn. It is hard to imagine different learning techniques because we only know the one we are in, but I believe that how schools teach will be very different because of research being done right now to solve the many problems our system has.

  23. Since I was gone, I reflected on our groups project and what we thought future schools would look like. Our group though that there wouldn’t be a teacher that would teach classes and everything would be online, but that there would be a campus to talk to teachers if you are having trouble. Also, relationships would change a little bit from what they are now. Since school would be online there would be less face to face communication and in person activity. We think that relationships will be more online based and less in person based that you get from school. We also thought that the lunch rooms would have a machine that you just tell it what you want for lunch and it pops right out, so that no matter what you eat you get what you want. An overview of school in the future is going to be more technology based and reliance and less face to face.

  24. Morgan Donaldson:
After reading my peers’ Future School Extrapolation Projects, I think that some of the same concepts we had used were seen around the room such as robots as the teachers and all or most of the school work is found online but with unique characteristics such as specific classes require a different curriculum/teaching strategies and some projects even went as far to show what cafeterias would look like. I think it is reasonable that the robots will have more jobs involved with schools because years ago we didn’t think they would even exist. The change that excites me the most is that the classes will be online and easier to access without having to worry if you left what you needed at home. I am not excited that by this time robots will potentially have taken over most of our jobs that we need to live off of.

  25. After completing my Future School Extrapolation Project, I believe that some reasonable extrapolations include classes being completely online, and homework being almost non existent. I was absent the day we looked at other projects, but I still believe our extrapolations to be true, and I'm excited to see how school's work in 40 years when I have kids. I am excited for the no homework aspect, but I am worried about teachers in the school building being rare because they won't be able to answer questions quite as well as when your teachers now all specialize in one topic.

  26. A common theme that I saw in many of the projects produced by my peers predominantly included machines taking over the classroom. I don’t disagree with this sentiment however we currently have the technology to have a fully automated classroom, such as Khan Academy, and Edmentum. With that in mind; why is it that we still have physical schools? I propose, it is because we are predisposed to think that college is the only way to become anything in our society, and leads us to focus on traditional learning methods. This error in thinking may be rooted in a fear of technology instilled by older generations. I would argue that until those older generations either: realize that technology for educational purposes is nothing to be afraid of, or succumb to the natural processes of existence, such as impermanence, major headway will not be made in the name of education.

  27. The common thing stated by students in their presentations was the points regarding college. Within these few years the option to go to college has been thought about more openly. Some say that you can't be successful if you didn't go to college, but the world is changing into a more positive outlook for those who are taking gap years or not going to college at all.
