Ordinances And E.T.?

After reading Denver Ordinance Article and Denver Ordinance 300, did you think of any Science Fiction short story or class connections? If you can incorporate quotations, reflect, challenge, or discern with keen insight, please do so in your blog response due Friday, November 16th.

  1. It doesn't really remind me much of any short stories except maybe Planet of the Apes because they didn't believe in aliens and we don't know if aliens have visited us or not.

  2. I think that this is understandable, however, not practical because aliens will never come to earth and if they do they will kill us.

  3. I think about xenophobia when I look at these articles because I see that the people are scared of the fact that aliens could be around. Also, the people are seeing aliens as a far-fetched idea and that they don't want to be associated with it. With the people voting 84.1% no for creating a commission to connect people with health and safety in regards to meeting extraterrestrial life, so this shows that a little xenophobia is shown through Denver.

  4. The one story about the puppet master is alike these articles because it recognizes the aliens in the story. Both the Puppet Master short story and these articles relate to aliens.

  5. it kinda reminds me of puppet show, because the people in the town really don't know how to respond to aliens. i think when the aliens make themselves known we're going to regret not forming the affairs commission bc we're not going to know what to do.

  6. This doesn't really remind me of anything that we have read in class, because, it is so ridiculous to me that people would vote on this, because we don't know of any extraterrestrial affairs, so why would anything about it be on an official ballot.

  7. I dont think of any stories when reading this. I personally wouldn't have voted for this commision. I believe it would have been a waste of taxpayer money due to the fact that there is no definite evidence of extraterrestrials.

  8. The Denver Initiated Ordinance 300 Election Results reminds me of the whole idea of xenophobia as a whole, because 84% of people voted no, which could possibly represent the fear of the extraterrestrial beings.

  9. If aliens ever do come, that's an issue way outside of the Denver government's jurisdiction.

  10. I thought of the twilight zone episode we watched, in how the humans jumped at everything and the education that this ballot would provide, however unnecessary, could actually prove useful in an actual alien encounter. RJC

  11. This made me think of the Twilight Zone episode where they think that there are aliens that come to their neighborhood and they all ban together to come after them but just end up killing each other. Maybe they could have used this ordinance.

  12. The short story this reminds me of is Puppet show and Random Sample. I think the people in these stories could benefit from this ordinance and learn how to properly interact with extraterrestrial beings

  13. I believe the info in the articles are very justifiable, however they still have odd vibes to them, a lot like how science fiction makes you cringe in amazement

  14. TJ AVERY

I think that this law sounds more like something from planet of the apes. The Apes did not think that there were any humans that could talk, they also did not believe in taking steps to expand their understanding, broadly They were stuck in their time without much progress. I do not think that this law is necessary because it makes it sound like aliens will be coming, but we don't really have the money now to throw at that.

  15. This doesn't remind me of any short stories that we've read in this class. I don't think it makes much sense because we don't have enough proof of aliens to enforce that policy.

  16. This article doesn't remind me of any of the short stories that we have read except maybe the story Random Sample. The people in the story didn't think about the things that they said and how that would affect others.

  17. if aliens came i dont know what we would do but we would probably not survive.

  18. It made me think of Puppet Show. In Puppet Show the aliens showed up to earth and asked that no one takes them and have them bring their leader there. Would us, as a human race actually go through with his "commands?' or would we go and just take him and be savages to them. Us as a human race is a horrible, mean, and savage race. I think if something of the unknown came, we would turn against each other and act in our wildest ways.

  19. I think that their could be life out there but if there was then I think we would already have found something but the Government is keeping it from us. It didn't remind me a whole lot of any stories but maybe a little connection to xenophobia.

  20. I don't think that these articles remind me of the Frankenstein Complex, rather the concept of xenophobia. The main fear and issue is due to invaders and aliens. These articles are emotions found the same in the short stories from xenophobia. I also do not see much relevance because aliens won't invade the United States let alone Denver, I think technology or something more realistic could however happen. Technology would be an example of the Frankenstein Complex though since it is man made.

  21. After reading the two articles, they didn't really remind me of any of the stories we've read. However, it did remind me of just the general definition of xenophobia as a whole, and how we want to believe that our society is afraid of what could be beyond our planet and solar system, and that aliens could actually be out there.
