  1. I think xenophobia is an irrational distrust of foreign, strange, unknown, or of different origin. A reaction could be fear and hate. My card said, every time I spoke, people had to start dancing. I noticed that some people would walk past me or the would awkwardly shuffle.

  2. My definition of Xenophobia hasn't changed after the activity. Xenophobia is the fear of foreign things or foreigners. I figured out my card said something along the lines of Ignore me, seeing as nobody talked to me. I realise this must be intended to simulate how people with xenophobia act.

  3. xenophobia is the fear of foreigners and foreign things, or stuff that's very different or unseen before. i think xenophobia makes people feel uncomfortable and it makes them feel like other people see something weird or different about them that they can't see. my card was "dance when i start speaking", and i didn't know why people were dancing when i was talking to them. it makes you wonder why people react the way they do, especially when you're not doing anything different from other people.

  4. My definition of xenophobia is to be afraid of something foreign. My card read, "respond with yes and... and summarize what I just said. This connects with my definition of xenophobia because it shows how some people may react when interacting with foreigners or what they do based on their first reaction of the foreigners.

  5. Disliking of people from other countries. It made me think that the people with the ignore me card are like immigrants in a xenophobic country.I can connect the feeling of hate to that card.

  6. My personal definition of xenophobia is the fear of aliens and the unknown. The card activity made me both curious and confused based off how other people were acting. I believe this was the point of the activity, how the person behaves due to the unknown, that being the card.

  7. The card activity was kinda fun, my card said agree with me then disagree with me. This card was really funny because anyone I talked to started to agree with me then disagree so it got me very confused on what people where trying to say. This definition of xenophobia makes me think of the unknown as interesting and I wanted to flip over my card to see what I got.

  8. "Accept my ideas". When taking in foreigners from another society, it is often pressed upon them to follow the new culture and internalize their values.

This is explored in science fiction, where aliens are either 'humanized' or vice versa. The Navii in Avatar are given a choice: accept humanity's industrial consumption or face the consequences.

  9. My definition of xenophobia is the fear of people from other countries or the fear of people who are different. The card activity made me think more about xenophobia and how people act towards other people when they have it. My card was "Interrupt Me!" and this made me feel left out and sad because whenever I would try to participate in talking I would get interrupted. Xenophobia in Science Fiction can be shown by movies like E.T or Planet of the Apes.

  10. My definition of xenophobia would be fear of the unknown, fear of difference. A common emotion people feel is being scared, a lot of people can commit horrible acts because of the fear they have. The Nazis are an example of extreme xenophobia, but most examples of xenophobia could be something as subtle as ignoring someone because you don't know them.

  11. I define xenophobia as the fear of foreigners or the fear of people who are different. Each person had a different card and had to act a different way towards that person. I think that we tend to judge people based on how they do certain things and that can make people feel unwanted and excluded. I think somethings can also make people feel uncomfortable and that causes us to either judge or fear that unique person.

  12. The card I had said "Take everything I say as a personal insult!" right away people were "getting upset" with everything I was saying😂😂 But immediately I was feeling unwelcome in the situation, which is what Xenophobia is to me, not accepting foreigners or something that just isn't right in your own society.

  14. I'd say that my definition is the fear of foreign people or people you don't know and the card activity helped me understand this like if you had a card like ignore me then people would which would be accurate to xenophobia. My card was don't look at my face which was kinda like xenophobia in the way that I was somewhat ignored and that it wasn't like a regular conversation. I would assign emotions like fear and distaste to xenophobia.

  15. Xenophobia is having a negative predisposition to someone. The card activity is like xenophobia because it causes you to treat someone a specific way because someone told you to.

  17. Xenophobia is the fear of people who are unlike you or unfamiliar. Sometimes people don’t deal with the fear very well and handle it with hatred. My card said to agree with me. In the moment I didn’t really realize what was happening, but looking back at it it makes sense.

  18. My definition of xenophobia is the fear of different people. The feeling could range out between people. My card was "Interrupt me!" and only one person out of the group I was in, interrupted me. I didn't feel upset or anything, but I had fun.

  19. My definition of xenophobia is fear of outside people. Within this activity you see judgement and labeling being passed, which wether we mean to or not, we all do in our everyday lives. This activity also made you sometimes close up when meeting someone or talking to someone you don't usually talk to or aren't necessarily comfortable with. I think the point of the activity was to meet someone without knowing how they are going to respond or act back.

  20. My definition of xenophobia is the fear of what is outside of someone's reality. The activity helped me see this because we were suppose to interact with each other with the short description of the cards which kinda in a way describes the ignorance of a xenophobic person

My definition of xenophobia is passing judgement on people without getting to know them, usually negative. My card made it so everyone accepted my ideas, they could be bad ideas or good ones, but it did not matter. I usually think of a negative connotation when I think about xenophobia.

  24. My personal definition of xenophobia is the fear of the unknown, or extra-terrestrial,and the card activity made me curious and almost self conscious at some points, because i did not know what other people thought of me. I was afraid of other peoples thoughts.

  25. Xenophobia is defined as the fear of strangers or foreigners. The unknown scares everyone, and everyone is xenophobic to some extent. Everyone is scared of unknown extraterrestrials and the unknown as far as different planets.

  26. xenophobia- the intense dislike of unknown people. I can see how some people's cards fitted the theme, like "Ignore Me," but mine said "Agree With Me" which I can't really see how it ties in with xenophobia, but it was fun nonetheless

  27. Xenophobia is a fear of unknown, It was humbling to experience that kind of discrimination and seeing peoples reaction during the experiment was both appalling and curious.

  28. Xenophobia is the fear of other people from different countries. This could connect to hate, disrespect, and maybe even racism.

  29. Xenophobia is the fear of foreigners. The card activity made me think about how foreigners might be treated, my card was that people had to argue with me on everything. Also Xenophobia can be expertly be used in science fiction movies like there being aliens from different planets and people being scared of them.

  30. Xenophobia is classified as a fear of foreigners. Throughout science fiction it has been portrayed as the fear of the unknown or something that is foreign to you. Of course there is reasoning behind some fears, but when someone uses their fears to justify treating others in a derogatory or prejudice way, there is no longer an excuse.
