Extrapolation And Future Schools In 2058?

Now that you have read many of your peers' Future School Extrapolation Projects, what are you thinking?  Holistically, what are your reasonable extrapolations regarding all of the extrapolations you have read?  What potential changes excite you the most?  What potential changes fill you with angst and apprehension?  Other thoughts?

  1. I think a reasonable expectation is for technology to become more and more apart of our learning in the future. The changes that excite me the most would be to not have grades, more technology, more job related, and more actually restaurants. The potential changes that fill me with some angst is the change in future transportation. I feel like cars will be more money because of the fact they are more technologically advanced.

  2. VR seems to be the most widely possible path. I think that sounds great. The lack of face-to-face making us lose friends seems to be a scary thought.

  3. I think many of the ideas that were presented were very smart. I saw a lot of people saying security would be stronger. I saw there are going to be no grades. I am very excited about how school will change and the many creative and good ideas. I am more worried that some of the presentations said that the class sizes will be bigger. I think this is bad because I have read that smaller class sizes help people learn more.

  5. I noticed from the majority of the presentation I saw that education will be pampered a lot more. Students won't leave their house, it will be virtual, be easier overall, and basically removes the whole idea of "school" and replaces it with a very easy education system that would make society very lazy.

  6. After reading through many of the other projects, the biggest similarity I saw was the advancement of technology, and how we will be much further ahead in that field than we are right now. However, one project did mention that technology will become so advanced that school's will have actual classed based on learning these new sources of technology, thus leading to new jobs that will be available in the future as well, also due to the advancement of new technology. That's something I'd really like to see because we already feel much more advanced from a technology standpoint in school if you were to compare it was when our parents went to school.

  7. A reasonable extrapolation would be schools that are in Virtual Reality due to there not being a need for security and school shootings would not happen because if it did, the person could just respawn. A change that excites me the most would definitely be VR because there would be a huge new amount of sports that we used to think of as fantasy, one that I saw was quidditch and I would love to watch people play that. A potential change that fills me with angst and apprehension is a change in security where there are police officers everywhere and dogs inside and outside to sniff gunpowder. This is because of all the school shootings but it would be more like a Prison due to all the guards around. Some other thoughts would definitely be I love the notion of no grades and instead rewarding students for getting things correct, so they are less stressed and are more willing to ask for help.

  8. Some large things that were very common when I looked through all of the slide shows was how classrooms and curriculum will become a lot more technological and easier to use. Something I also noticed that we did not touch on was how security will be heightened to a degree. Whether this is because outside or inside threats for a school, security will have to be heightened a lot.

  9. While looking at the other presentations I saw the technology being a trend. Technology is going to be super advanced in the next 40 years. I think that is a reasonable extrapolations because we are growing so fast in technology and its not stopping. This excited me because its amazing to see how much we have grown in the last 40 years and I am very interested in knowing what the technology will be like in the next 40 years. I think this can also be bad because knowing that technology is growing so fast it could potentially consume so many jobs in the future as well as add them.

  10. i think schools will have solar panels and they will have more classes online. i think there will also be more schools with resource officers in them. i think there won't be huge changes, but i think the changes that happen in school will most likely be for the better, like the security increases in schools.

  11. The future schools had much technology. One said that back in 1978 computers weren't even a thought during school, but in 2058 paper won't be a thought. Some said that schools won't even need paper, it will just be on the computer. The society would get lazy, students would be learning from VR and teachers would be teaching from VR

  12. I saw a few mentions about security and how it would be increased by a lot. They imagined that there would be police dogs and more police officers. That scares me because I'm wondering why and what big event would cause us to need that much security. I think it is reasonable for holograms to be used in the future, especially in schools.

  13. I'm excited but also concerned if the way that we have predicted school to be in the future is correct. Changes that excite me a lot are something like no homework or no grades because that would be really freeing and things like upgrades to buildings and classes would be nice. Something that I'm a little concerned about would be things like virtual reality or only online schools because something may happen like internet failures or electric outages which would be bad for everything. Overall I can't wait to see what future school is like.

  14. I saw several similar to ours, but one that kind of freaked me out and confused me was one that said security would be high, but it would be homeschooled. I don't think there should be bag checks if it's in a building, since technology would've advanced enough to detect dangerous things by then. I am glad more people took away grades from the system because I think that's a great idea

  15. Many presentations have the common theme of advanced technology. With that, some presentations already have school online instead of in class. These are all based off of current times, while technology is already advancing at a rapid pace; things like holograms, VR, and online classes are used today. I noticed a few had added a technology class to the core amount, in addition the education was formatted to fit the individual and not the collective.

  17. I noticed that many of the projects have that same concepts. Many of them talked about how much technology is going to advance. Many also mentioned that there will be more classes relating to technology because there will be more job opportunities in that field. I'm excited to see what life will look like in 2058.

  18. I think there are going to be a lot of different changes in the future regarding schools and education. The potential changes that excite me the most is the amount of technology that is going to occur in the future. The potential changes that fill me with angst is the security. In the future I think that the security will increase and be everywhere. Overall, I am excited to see how schools are in 50 years.

  19. I noticed that a lot of people just kept to the basic school blueprint and inserted technology. This is concerning to me because I don't like current education and putting it online wouldn't help any. I hope that education becomes more job oriented.

  20. Looking at other peoples projects I saw lots of flaws in my presentation and my group had missed security in school and others things. Lots of groups took away grades and based learning off of advancing in courses. In my opinion, I think that taking away grades is a good thing because it adds less stress to the school environment but at the same time students will slack off with no incentive to get a good grade. I also saw presentations showing how the school would be virtual reality and after watching Ready Player One I thought this would be a super cool idea. One idea for security for future schools was very extreme with adding dogs to all schools to apprehend school shooters.

  21. One thing that I saw a lot was that technology is going to be a lot more prominent. There were a lot of people that said that people would do online work rather than in class work. I was really excited about that, because there wouldn't have to be so much time dedicated to school, and people would have more time to go outside, and do other things with people. One thing that i was apprehensive about was having so much security, I feel that if there is too much security, kids would not feel at home, and be too scared to try anything new.

  22. As I did the gallery walk and read everyone's presentations, I noticed many extrapolations including technological advancements, many of which replaced pencil and paper. My extrapolations are confirmed with the new technologies, but have made new ones like replacing the teacher with a robot and taking all the classes online. I am excited about some of the technological advancements, but some worry me, like the replacement of teachers. This creates a loss of many jobs. I am wondering if virtual reality will be introduced into schools, and if not, what will?

  23. I saw some interesting ideas from the presentations. There was one that gave me some apprehension, removing the process of going to school all together. There are social things that kids need from interacting at school. One of the things that surprised me, was VR sports instead of actual physical sports. That sounds like an interesting idea, if it is implemented right. You would need to make VR sports to be more directly linked to the brain, so it could be a viable replacement.

  24. My reasonable extrapolations from walking around and reading other projects, i would say that a lot of the projects had a bunch in common. Some include the idea of virtual reality of being the main source of education, the abolishment of grades, as well as high security. Potential changes which excite me the most are deffenatly the VR and the idea of getting rid of grades over all. An idea that gives me angst, is the idea od further security. I say this because 40 years from now i would belive that we would have changed gun laws, or have gotten a better understaning of saftey and kindness.

  25. Lots of projects focused on the idea of transferring to online courses/homeschooling. Almost all presentations talked about textbooks and written papers becoming completely obsolete. An idea for the future that makes me anxious is the idea of hundreds of thousands of jobs being lost to robots

  26. I noticed lots of technology integration and how much the classroom will become obsolete. i think the use of teachers will go way and the thought of virtual reality to replace them will be a very real thing in the future.

  27. a lot of people thought about the technology
and how it will take over the school and we wont need paper.

  29. After reading through the many other presentations, the biggest innovations in the schools presented is in the technology department and how it will be much more advanced and well inter woven in the schools, and possibly more lenient in the grading areas.

  30. I noticed that most of the projects believe that school will turn into a more tech friendly environment such as virtual classrooms and less human interaction. Virtual Reality could be a huge plus, but it can also be harmful to how the next generations will communicate and interact with one another.

  31. I noticed that many groups had a similiar theme. Many looked at a future filled with technology and innovations. One subject that I didn't see many groups cover was security in schools.

  33. I noticed a lot of the same type of aspects and ideas in everyones project, but the biggest thing I noticed was everyone's use of technology. I am excited for the future because we will be able to see the evolution of technology, and how it affects everyone's lives today, and tomorrow. I was glad to see everyone's concern for school security

  34. Unable to see everyone else's work, I only have my own to look out. I predicted a more apocalyptic future, one in which education is secondary to survival.

Because of climate change, resource exhaustion, etcetera, and our ignorance/apathy to the warnings, I feel like sooner or later we'll all of the sudden be plunged into a crisis. In my version, humanity does not unite to bring itself from the brink but rather squabbles over what remains. School, therefore, is primarily centered on skills like hunting, wiring, looting, and defense, with formal skills like reading and writing not primary.
