  1. I noticed a lot of different creatures and planets that are similar to and different from Earth. All of the creatures were scary in their own way and if they every traveled to Earth I think people would fear them. Overall the alien planets were very creative and showed different creatures and how they functioned.

  2. I noticed lots of the alien creatures were portrayed as scary and/or dangerous. There weren't many presentations that had happy, fun, aliens, which makes sense considering Xenophobia is a huge factor.

  3. As I looked around at others alien planets, I notice how a lot of planets weren't alike. All of them had different features and the humans weren't really human. This helped me to understand xenophobia because what I saw was really weird and out of the norm. Reading through the projects it made me think "Wow I'm glad I ain't living there".

  4. These projects were amazing. They were so different, yet held many of the same themes. Connecting to xenophobia, many groups (including me) made the "intelligent species" extremely humanoid. This ties to our belief that we are the master race, the smartest of the bunch.

  5. As I walked around and viewed my peers Alien Planet projects, I noticed that a lot of them had features that were very similar to some of Earths. For example, some planets would be covered in a climate similar to some found on Earth. Also there was animals and life forms that are pretty close to some on Earth. I think this might say something about xenophobia and that we tend to not like things that differ from what we are used to.

  6. I noticed that almost all of the projects (that I viewed) had a top predator, some sort of vegetarian, and some sort of producer. Some projects had moons while others were undisclosed.

  7. Everyone got inspiration from Earth creators and plants (but changed them in a way to make them more alien) or had something robotic. It seems that most people made peaceful planets. I think we all forgot to add something (food, culture, weather, etc), but had everything really important.

  8. The most common things that I noticed is that nobody had the exact same planet or alien life. Everything was different in all of the projects. This helped us further understand extrapolation because everyone had some sort of alien life which we have not seen in our lifetime.

  9. I noticed that a lot of what people created still had climates much like that of earth and really didn't differ too much. I dont blame them though because it makes sense that all we can imagine for climate on a planet sutiable for life would have to be earth like. I also saw a large amount of worm or slug like creatures and nothing massive that would be larger than anything on earth which was interesting. I think as a human race we struggle to open the realm of possibility outside our planet because we are the only life we know about which makes us ignorant and afraid of anything xeno.

  10. I noticed that many people had invented a new type of human, or some organism representing a human-like organism. In several presentations, including mine, the human-like creatures had four hands or extra limbs. This was a common theme among the projects and I think the world we live in today influenced the creation of these features. I also noticed that most of the animals or creatures that people created looked scary in a way. If I traveled to one of these planets and saw these creatures, I would definitely be scared which represents Xenophobia. I think the fact that most people made their creatures look odd or frightening which accurately depicts Xenophobia.

  11. I noticed a that the creatures resembled animals that are on earth and usually were two animals mixed together. All the planets were unique and very creative. These projects help us with the concept of xenophobia because most of the creatures looked scary but would actually be the opposite of what you thought.

  12. I noticed a lot of different types of planets, nobody had the same names or creatures, very creative.

  13. Two of the planets I observed were very hot planets, hostile to most Earth humans and sounds like a desert place. These planets also had highly dangerous creatures that would gladly feast on people. The other two planets, including my own, that I observed were water planets. In my planet the creatures are still hostile but in the other water planet they live together in relative harmony. It seems a common tread is extreme environments, either desert or ocean. Having hostile animals show xenophobia because we may be discouraged from visiting planets with potentially dangerous animals even though we regularly cohabite near bears, big cats, alligators, sharks, etc. These animals are dangerous but they are nothing new. We live in our own deserts and our own oceans but fear planets with foreign oceans and deserts. Xenophobia is demonstrated in the Alien Planet projects because they highlight the fears we may have regarding new “dangerous” things.

  14. I saw that everyone had very different ideas and very different creature ideas.

  15. As I looked at my peers' Alien Planet projects, I noticed that most, if not all, of the planets shared a lot in common with Earth. For example, most of the planets, geographically, shared similar aspects to Earth; lakes, oceans, mountain ranges, etc.

Another trend I saw among our projects was the combination of common organisms. A lot of the inhabitants of our alien planets were part one animal and part a completely unrelated animal.

The only thing I could think of that relates this to xenophobia is the fact that we're being exposed to the unknown, the creative minds of our peers around us are whole other worlds that we explored today.

  16. I noticed that some planets have rings around it. I also noticed that a lot of planets were tilted by a lot. Also a lot of the planets have lots of vegetation and land. This project helped us developed a concept of xenophobia by getting a grasp of different kinds of people and places other than ours and what we are used to.

  17. One of the most common themes that Is aw was the Marine world and different perspectives on it. I thought the ones that broke the chain were the coolest, like desert planets were the coolest. I also saw that people put in not only animals, but also the bacteria that live on that planet, which was really cool.

  18. I saw alot of diverse creatures on each persons planet. Their were creatures that looked familiar and creatures that had nothing in our world that looked like them.Their was so much differences in the way the planets worked from ours, and I applaud everyone's effort.

  19. I noticed that many of these creatures were adapted to the environment around them. Although they were all different from each other, they never fit the characteristics of animal creatures on Earth. I feel like this is some way is xenophobia in it self. The idea that things from far away planets are drastically different in their animal life instead of the same shows that some people could be scared of something that's different, so the think in that way. These presentations also had another common theme that I found. They all seemed to have this idea of the scarier creatures being peaceful.Xenophobia is shown through the this as the idea of a person being more scared of one creature than the other just because of their looks. This idea of xenophobia has been enacted throughout these presentations, which made the more enjoyable and interesting

  20. As I viewed the alien planet projects I noticed that there was a very common theme of creatures looking rather unappealing to the human eye. I believe this is a major cause of xenophobia. We as humans are so quick to judge that we instantly assume that creatures from another planet are ugly and scary when realistically we have no idea. For all we know they could be even more beautiful than us or even if they aren't, they likely have a different standard of beauty than us and to each other they don't look "scary" or "ugly".

  21. When people think of other planets or aliens our minds tend to think of the aliens we see in books or movies. I think that is part of xenophobia because humans tend to be scared of things that are out of the normal, I think this is a problem because we shouldn't judge a book by its cover. We don't know what "aliens" look like and they could be the complete opposite of what we believe. This was a common trend in the alien planets, most had creatures that looked weird and unlike humans. Even mine did.

  22. As I walked around the class during the gallery of my peer's alien planet project, I noticed a lot of similarities and patterns. First, I noticed a lot of the planets had different angles on their axes which caused different weather and seasons. It also had conditions in which other fictional species could survive, which lead to xenophobia. It brought up questions like, "What if there are other planets in our universe that could hold alien life?"

  23. I was absent for the in-class presentations, but after reading the blog posts above, I've noticed that when we were told to create some "alien", we create something very different from ourselves, but also scary and unappealing. "Alien" does not have to mean bad, but simply different. However, we tend to be scared of what is different, making the word "alien" take on a negative connotation.

  24. As I reviewed that alien planet projects I noticed that the possibilities are endless. If aliens do exist they could actually be anything. Anything from spear wielding spider crabs to gas clouds that are invisible. This relates to xenophobia because these things all involve ET life.

  25. Something that I noticed when going throughout the projects was that each planet was at least in some parts earth-like. The creatures usually created as the dominate race usually had two eyes and a bilateral human structure. They almost always had a similar government to a nation on earths and usually always had similar learning and math to ours. I believe this shows that we are all maybe xenophobic in the sense that it is hard for us to comprehend anything that is very drastically different than us.

  26. I noticed that many projects had a monster of some sorts, which makes me think about how maybe the way they created their planet and creatures that inhabit it, had something to do with the group members own xenophobic fears.

  27. When I looked through some of the projects I noticed most of them had creatures that were based off earth animals with similar designs but with a twist and cool names.

  28. When I looked at these unique projects, I noticed that many of them had cool ideas and inspirations, and that the drawings/illustrations were very intricate(added to the overall presentation)

  29. After seeing my peers projects I have a better understanding of Xenophobia. It Shows the different variants of different things clashing. It is cool to see everyone's imagination and what it can create. I have found that most of the projects had very unique ideas and those ideas combining is what I really like about sifi and is a overall theme of xenophobia.
